Hi,

After a long break from racing sims / consoles, i decided to get a PS3 & DFGT for GT6 again and buy need for speed shift 2.

However i am struggling to get decent wheel settings for shift 2 (i used to have shift 2 on xbox 360 with official Microsoft FFB wheel a few years ago and it played great) anyone have any tips to try and make shift 2 drive a bit better with a wheel on PS3 ?

Also Ferrari Racing Legends is on the PS store, is this any good with a wheel ? i see that it is made by SMS so i assume the physics similar to shift 2 ?

And, I want to buy a rally game for PS3, (i used to have Dirt 3 & wrc 2 for Xbox - which i thought were both OK) which would you recommend out of :

Dirt 3, WRC 3 or WRC 4 ?

And Finally - Which is the best F1 game on PS3 ? (not to worried about the drivers / teams being up to date) Just one what has the best AI and is good with a wheel on PS3 ?

Advice, Much appreciated.

Thank you.

Shift 2 - Best place for good wheel settings is the NoGrip forums, they have a good S2U section over there.
Ferrari Legends - I think it is based more on the engine from the first Shift, so not bad with a wheel but not the best.
Rally - WRC4, it's a vast improvement over their previous efforts, has a great career mode, and is based completely on rallying unlike Dirt3.
F1 - Codemasters have improved the series with every release so as it stands, F1 2013 is imo the best F1 game out right now. I am sure someone will come along and say F1CE is the best on the PS3 but the AI just isn't up to scratch and the physics aren't as deep.

Ok, cheers for replys and advice.

I had a look at shift 2 on no grip fourms, but it seems all the settings are for PC users, i did though find an old thread from gtplanet with some ps3 settings, so will give those a try.

So WRC 4 is the best choice then for a ps3 rally game ? its on PSN store right now for £11.99. do you know of any planned DLC for it ? (as looking at WRC 3 it has a much better car selection - be nice to have some group b content)

I will get dirt 3 complete edition as well, and will look into F1 2013.

Also is Grid 2 any good with a wheel ?

Cheers.

WRC4 will probably not get DLC. WRC 3 does have more cars and is probably better if you want more car variety. WRC4 is better for a proper WRC like career with Junior WRC, WRC3, WRC2 and WRC classes. Road to Glory on 3 isn't as good and doesn't give the full WRC experience.

Physics and graphics wise both are similar so I guess it comes down to what you want from ti with regards to cars.

Ugh, I wouldn't get any Codemasters' titles for PS3 at all, their PS3 versions are considerably the worst ones. It's not that their F1 games are bad but they're near unplayable on PS3 to the point where F1CE still stands as the best F1 game on PS3.

The 360 versions of SMS's titles are also better, I wouldn't bother on Ferrari Racing Legends for the PS3, the input lag is massive and while the physics are an improvement over Shift 2, the steering is just terrible, there's a hidden aid that you can't turn off that basically countersteers the car for you but keeps doing it even if you're going in straight line.

Sorry to say this, but GT6 is your best and only bet and it's worse than GT5, so the best game for the PS3 is GT5 and the others are just terrible ports.

Is it, though? That contradicts every sensible opinion I've read on this site.

Personally I would avoid TD:FRL, it's not really anything special so unless you want to drive some vague representations of a lot of Ferraris, I just wouldn't bother.

As for the WRC games, as has already been noted, WRC4's career is better but WRC3 had Group B and some historic cars (though they weren't anything special), and maybe a few others too, I forget. WRC3 had some alternate game modes (smashing objects, racing against helicopters and stuff), too. So if you're happy to do single stages I'd say WRC3 is better, if you want a structured career then 4 is better.

Well, GT5 is a now a complete game with more features than GT6, the physics are good enough and there aren't as many bugs, the sound is actually better, less compressed (watch any comparison between the 2), The graphics are simpler but the picture quality is cleaner yet sharper and the gameplay is smoother.

That's pretty much the core of the game and it's of a superior quality and content than GT6.

F1 CE is still a great racing game, the sense of speed is brilliant. But I do believe the server is down so you can't get the updates. Therefore I think playing with a wheel isn't really fun.

Hereby proving my point from my first post in the thread. F1CE isn't the best F1 game on the PS3, it is 3rd at best and that's being generous. 2013, 2012, F1 CE and 2011 in that order. As PletdeKoe says as well, without being able to update F1CE with the FFB patches and what not then tis almost pointless playing it with a wheel and it's too easy with a pad.

Based on my personal experiences, get F1 2013, WRC4, ignore test drive Ferrari and get Ferrari challenge or Supercar challenge and also get Superstars V8 Next Challenge.

Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated.

Ok, i wont bother getting test drive Ferrari or dirt 3.

I will get WRC 4 as i would prefer a more realistic career.

I used to have F1 CE a few years ago, (only had a pad though) and thought it was good, like you say, if the servers are down - not really any point getting it again. so will have a look at F1 2013

Shame there are no demo's of the F1 games by codemasters on the playstation store, as i think Xbox has them.

@MildAshers - Superstars V8 Next Challenge - is this the touring car game from milestone ? how would you compare it to other racing sims, is it good with a wheel & how is career mode (if any) and whats the AI like ?

Cheers.

there was a demo for f1 2012 but I don't know if they keep those up, I think F1 CE's gameplay is more exciting and I love the engine sounds in that game, the Codies' F1 games were lacking in that department until 2012 but it looks like they've gone a step backwards with 2013 (I'm talking about the main cars) None of these games will hold you for more than a month though.

Note what neema said - I'm sorry, but most of your posts have been far from sensible regarding GT6 - so I'll have to disagree. Also, your comparison between 360 and PS3 version of the Codemaster games mentioned, is the first I've heard stating that the 360 versions are superior. Could you provide some links to such commentary please.

Is it, though? That contradicts every sensible opinion I've read on this site...

I'm only stating facts really, maybe you can tell me why you disagree and on the Codies subject, it's such a well known issue I'm surprised you have never heard of it, 360 versions always have better framerates and better AA solutions that result in crisper graphics, F1 2011 even had input lag issues on PS3.

Even the over the top black levels that the 360 produces actually help these F1 games a lot because the art style is very dull and gray, tracks look very washed out on the PS3.

Yes that's right, based on the Superstars V8 series in Italy. It's far from the worst racing game, far from the best. Just offers something different and is pretty cheap nowadays. I found it to be reasonable with a wheel, has force feedback and feels ok with the right settings. Career mode is a straight up championship with racing school.

@PepeMickey - With all due respect, that shows 2 videos of F1 2011. I am not defending F1 2011 as it was not great on the Ps3. However, F1 2013 is much improved and has little to no noticeable difference. The main differences being the differences that separate any cross platform game such as AA and some of the texture filtering. FPS is stable on PS3' as it is on the 360.

Not to mention I would presume @Viper_Turismo is talking about PS3 as he has a PS3 not a 360 so he shouldn't not buy it because its marginally better graphically on xbox.

That's fine, in my case I wouldn't bother, if I only had a PS3 then I wouldn't have a choice but that doesn't make the above any less true. I'm just being honest, the PS3 isn't a great racing platform, if you love GT that's great but if you don't, you're screwed.

@MildAshers Thanks again for the advice, i will have a look at V8 superstars - as you say it can be bought really cheap now, cheers.

@PepeMickey as MildAshers already said I only have PlayStation systems now, No Xbox, and as the DFGT wheel is not compatible on the PS4, i will have to use it for the PS3 untill i can save for a PC / steam box.

Also I do like GT6, IMO i think it's an improvement from GT5, However where i do agree with you is that the Xbox does have some nice racing games - PGR 4, Race Pro etc, Its Just the wheel selection is not very good for xbox, unless you can afford to buy a fanatec wheel.
