just out of curiousity, where/when do you guys shift? i usually go a little into the redzone-about half as far as the car will let me-until 4th/5th gear, when i return to redlining. i am, of course, assuming that all of you are competent enough to run manual.... ;)

Ooooh - big assumption!

Depends a lot on the car and the gearing - with a lot of the turbos there's really no benefit in winding them out past the redline, as a change on the redline will put the car right back into boost and you'll get quicker acceleration shifting earlier. With some of the NA cars, particularly in higher gears, there might be a benefit in winding them right out to the rev limiter.

It also depends on the circumstances - if I running past the redline, but coming up to a corner, I won't shift up, as I'll just need to shift down again.

shift by listening to the sound-when it sounds high-pitched i know i have to shift up. when it sounds flat and grumbly i know i have to shift down. i dont really pay too much attention to the hud when driving.

I tend to go as far as I can go (on the redline) in the 1st gear....then when I am in the 2nd gear, I shift just before the redline to get into the 3rd gear.

Just my driving preference.
