With cloudy skies, cool weather, and rain threatening all day, many competitors stayed at home, rather than risk another rainout at Sandusky Speedway for the Midwest Supermodified Association. But for the 18 cars that arrived, a real barn-burner of a race emerged as DJ Shullick (Shoe II to his fans, as he's the son of Supermod legend Dave "The Shoe" Shullick) took home the feature win over Stout Racing teammate Moe Lilje.
Shullick and Lilje had struggled at the Lorain County Speedway season opener, and their return to championship form (Shullick being the defending series champion) was welcomed greatly. DJ Shullick stated "The car was really special tonight - hooked up on rails in the corners."
Moe Lilje, who's campaigning a brand new 2006 Bodnar chassis with a rather experimental rear suspension arrangement, remarked "The car was decent tonight, we were close, but we just missed the set-up a little bit. We can get a little bit better. First and second is good for us.
The MSA will be returning to Sandusky for their next two shows, once on July 1st (a regular season show set to give an appreciable gap between this weekend's action and the ISMA double-header at Toledo and Mansfield in late June) and once on July 15th to make-up a May 13th rain-out.
Be sure to swing by www.midwestsupers.com to catch the full schedule, or www.ismasupers.com for the International Super Modified Association. Whichever sanction, catch the Offset Outlaws at a track near you and See 'Em Fly!
