Well,

Here's a little 31 mb video I made that's in WMV format. It doesn't have any sound, but I hope it will give you an idea as to what my backyard looks like, and why it's so easy to take 'picture' when your subject is so majestic.

I also had to the chance to practice my GT3 rally skills while up on the hill...

Anyhow, here it is:

(I might note, I'm typing this post as it is uploading to my server...)

Pako, you're so lucky! Great video, very cool how you can drive 5 feet from water falling from overheard. Very very cool! 👍

Oh man, on the way down, you can actually drive 'under' the water. :) My wife had her camera down, so I elected not to get her soaked. Thems are wise words, so take heart. :)

How'd the colors look on your monitor? It was a 12.6gb file compressed down to 31mb's, I was just wondering how the image quality looked on your screen. I'll smoothin out the transitions later, and add some audio, this was more of a test then anything else... :)

It looked alright. Not the best quality but that's more than likely just my computer. A little blurry but so are all videos unless they're DVD's. I'll show you a screenshot if you'd like.

Sure, I think a screen shot would be good. Part of the bluriness can probably be attributed to the dirty windshield that almost the entire footage was taken through. :)

Hmm...for some reason when I take a screenshot and then upload it in an image editing program it's fine. Then I cut out the picture part and then save it. I open it and it's black. Sorry Pako, no picture. The video looks good though, nice quality.

Must be "Pako's Anti-Piracy" kicking in, eh? :D It's cool, thanks for trying anyhow.

Off to bed I go...

Wow, some people just have it all, a nice home, nice location, nice family....

Really beautiful, Pako! I had the zoom on 2x, and it still looked great! If you want to have a REALLY nice picture when you compress, use the MPEG2 format. That's what SVCD's and DVDs use. The files are a little bigger, but definately well worth it!

Oh, and if you use SVCD settings it should look good as well! If you want, I can send you an SVCD quality file my brother ended up downloading. Try to get hold of me on AIM or email or something and we could try to work something out!

The origial encoded file was 720x480 MPEG-2 and it was almost 800mb's. :)

I reduced the size considerably and reduced the image quality to 80% to allow for a smaller file size.

Thanks for the advise and tips. Maybe I'll try a divx encoding with larger resolutions later.

That was an awesome video Pako! 👍 That scenery is absolutely beautiful!

Viper Zero,
Thanks!

rjensen11,
What about variable bit rates vs. fixed bit rates as far as quality goes?

I havn't the slightest idea, really. I just basically copied down the settings that Pinnacle has for SVCD on my computer.

Glacier National Park - North Western Montana....not to far from Banff from what I understand.

It's the same rockies. I live pretty close to you it seems. I'm in South Central Alberta.About a hour and a half drive North from Great Falls if you know where that is

Oh yeah, Great Falls is only about a 3-4 hour drive, west from where I'm at. It would appear that we're almost, pretty close, darn near neighbors.

Howdee Neighbor. ;)
