I found a few shortcuts in the game, the ones everyone finds on their own, wondering if anyone has more. All these allow at least one gear higher than the recommended gear for the turn:

--Trial Mountain, across grass on final straight chicane
--Deep Forest, last turn on DFI/first on DFII, top speed corner cut
--Apricot Hill II (and AHI if you have a fast enough car), straighten out the downhill chicane across sand
--Grand Valley, last turn, top speed corner cut

Of course, using these shortcuts consistently is probably one reason I can't get any time trials down...those damn cones...

Actually, although I can take the slalomy curves right after the first turn in Complex String one gear higher than the game recommends (two in my Opel Speedster), you can skip across the last one. I did an an unmodified S4 and I gained some time.

Shortcuts=Cheating

Cheating=Bad

Shortcuts=Bad, so dont take um, they dont save you that much time and you can pass your tt's and such without taking them.

cheating? i think not. Its just a way to race. If you go over the grass u could consider that cheating if you look at it like u are.

Well, if the question is whether or not its cheating to take shortcuts like that, look at the Formula 1 rules. If a driver cuts over a chicane too many times, they'll give him a penalty. So, they obviously consider it cheating. In GT3, you won't get penalised for it, and nobody is going to do anything about it, but personally I try not to use the 'shortcuts' most of the time, as to me it does feel like cheating. But, at the end of that day, it really is up to you, and if your happy doing it, go ahead and do it!

The car speed doesn't matter a great deal when going through the sand but the car height sure does. Just check the speed loss when passing through sand with a Mazada 787b for example and then compare it to a lancer evo or somehting ...

The 4th gear left under the bridge before the hill at Laguna Seca can be cut, and hence taken flat.

The final left hand sweeper before the 2nd hairpin at Grand Valley can also be cut, allowing you to go through flat and save on tyre wear.

The F1 rules state that if a driver cuts a corner, or misses a chicane, they will be penalised if (a) it allowed them to pass another car, or (b) it allowed them to prevent another car from passing. This is why you'll see the drivers let others by after missing chicanes, in order to avoid the penalties.

I do use some of these shortcuts. But that doesn't mean that I haven't learned to do the turns properly. Just take a little extra time and learn the turns right, that will help your time trial times. :drunk:, what a tongue twister of simplicity....

Yay, I'm a platinum member now!!!!!! :cheers:

I didn't have too much of a problem on that TT on Trial Mountain. I made that last turn easily, but the one before that would get me sometimes. I would try to drive it as hard as I could, only to slide into the wall or off the course enough to be Failed. That happened about 3 times. But I got it though. No major issues....

Well I dont think its cheating if you do it accidently, but if you do it in races all the time then it would be cheating, you should give yourself a pit penalty. Look at it this way the AI drivers are so weak, that its like we're cheating allready so taking short cuts is taking it too far.

Ahh... there's too many morals to be decided keep in mind all the time.

I don't bother thinking about what is "fair" to the competition. I play the game to enjoy it....

The only time "cheating" becomes an issues is when I'm playin' with a buddy... I do try to avoid the "shortcuts" then.
