Should all teams be given extra tyres for qualifying?

Switch Q3 to single shot qualifying runs one car at a time. Keep Q1 and 2 as thery are though.

Yeah I miss single shot qualifying, it was so entertaining watching it from the beginning til the end.
Current qualifying mode is boring in my opinion, I only watch the last minutes of Q3 usually..

I'd like to see someone driving the arse off their car doing 2 stops, and one driver being smoooth and tidy and attempting one stop.

I quite liked Hamilton doing an almost one-stopper... (almost because his second set lasted something like five to ten laps out of sixty... :D ).

I'd like to limit Primes to just two sets for the race, with absolutely no requirement to run the Softs. You have an extra set of Primes for qualifying ONLY... and that's it.

Thus you have three sets of Softs and two Primes... sucks, I guess, if you get a puncture on the Primes, but as it is, your race is ruined if you do, anyway.

The current formula is terrific. The only complaint, really, is that people who go to Q3 should get an extra set of tires... but it's not really an issue most of the time.

I agree. Gives car sponsors more TV time, purists like it and gives in many ways more action for pole. Everybody wins.

There's an old rule that says, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Somehow, without copying NASCAR, the Formula 1 circus has come up with the most competitive, entertaining and absorbing season since maybe 1982.

From my perspective in front of the TV set, I say don't change a thing! Even so, I admit it's not quite right for the spectators who pay to get into the track on Saturday not see the full show of Q3.

Respectfully submitted,
Steve

^ this ^ 👍 It is the most competitive racing going these days, the most competitive F1 season in decades and you want to "fix it"! Just one question...why?

You think drivers not bothering to go and do a lap in Q3 with lots of dead air time consequently is somehow not broken?

Jenson won in Canada last year after having had a puncture, it certainly doesn't ruin their race, leading cars usually manage to get back into the points (Though maybe not this year as the midfield cars are closer)

I think the show is good the way it is. Have the teams reached an agreement with Pirelli regarding the 4th set of race primes yet? Last year every car in almost every race had their 4th set of primes untouched after the race, which then had to be destroyed anyway (They can't be taken to the next event, I think the compound can degrade in some way if they're just sat around in storage which would give the team a disadvantage). The teams were discussing swapping that 4th set of primes for a set of options, to give the teams more tyres that would be useful in qualifying.

I seem to remember Paul Hembrey saying that Pirelli rejected this idea sometime last year, but I haven't heard anything about it since. It would be the most obvious solution, as at the moment a set of tyres is wasted for no reason.
