Should I buy an Xbox? & What games?

A guy I know at work has an extra Xbox that he wants to sell.. he bought two, one to mod, one to keep stock (the one for sale is the stock one), and he's also got a 360.

What's the going rate for a used Xbox these days? (not from a retail store like Gamestop, but just "guy on the street" pricing). Seems you can get them pretty cheap from Ebay.

If I do get it, what games are worth playing on it? About the only ones that I'm interested in are Forza, PGR2, KOTOR/II, Ninja Gaiden.. maybe Halo. What other good stuff is out there?

Umm, the new ones are going for $150, so $100 for a used one should be good.

All the ones you pointed out are all great games (except Ninja Gaiden and Halo which with both I haven't played). You might want to try out Rally Sport Challenge 2, and if you're into Star Wars, you might want to rent SW Battlefront II, which I absolutely love and recommend.

Battlefront's mainly an online/multiplayer game, and I don't play online. And it's also multiplatform.. If I wanted a multiplatform game, I would have bought it already (since I already own the other two consoles).

There's one thing to consider. The XBox has a hard drive and is a Microsoft product, so if reliability is an issue for you, I'd say get a used one from GameStop and buy a warranty with it unless they sell them with warranties already.

If you like rally, Colin McRae 2005 is supposed to be receiving rave reviews, and I'm going to get a copy next week when I get paid.

Definatly the Halo games, project gotham racing 1 and 2, alll the games mentioned, rallisport challenge as well, the GTA games if only for the better graphics. Panzer dragoon orta, Return to castle wolfenstein, need i go on?:P

Well, speaking of multiplatform games, they're always the best on the Xbox (or Xbox 360 if it's available). And it kind of is an online game, but it's real fun for single player too. It's worthy of a rental at least.

The Xbox isn't a computer. It's a game console. I never had ONE problem with my year-old one. Neither has most of the other people who play on their's.

Duck are you saying that games on the Xbox is better then the same game on PC? Cause if you ment that, tsk tsk tsk.

Well Jedi, for me buying a Xbox was a disapointment, yet i still play it when it's not at my friends house. :) But since your different... Do it theres many great games.

Duck, that's quite a relief. On Forza, the system looses the steering controller periodically and crashes. Or should I say fairly often?

Ooooh, and I forgot about Panzer Dragoon. That was the first game to make me want an XBox, but not quite enough. Now that I finally have one, I want Orta, Shenmue 2, Colin Mcrae 2005, and... gee, I think that's it.

But I do think the Box is a nice system, and if you like Forza, everyone has supposedly gone crazy for online racing with it.

Get Forza for sure, I personally think its much better then the Gran Turismo series.

Halo's really easy and not all that fun once you beat it. There are better shooters out there for the Xbox.

yes you should buy an xbox. i have it. (though you may think i dont because i always post in PS2 forum) but i play it less than the PS2.
the xbox is good it has many good games like Halo and Dead to Rights, Forza

Have to add this one to the list as it is now easily the most played game on my X-box and thats Black, and in my opinion a better FPS that Halo or Halo2 (but I was never a huge fan of either to begine with).

I've now sen both the PS2 version and Xbox version running side by side (I borrowed my mates copy of Black for the PS and we ran they both through my set-up) and in both visuals and sound the X-box version does (in my opinion) beat the PS2 version.

I also prefer the X-box controller for FPS (but the DS2 for driving games).
