Should I buy Shift 2 on PS3 or 360

I'm surprised to see that I'm the first to point out that it might be a better idea to get just about any multi-platform game for the PS3, simply because it's a much more reliable system than the 360. It has been my experience that the former outlasts the latter by roughly 2:1.

Thoughts?

Oh dear...and so it starts...lol

What? Every dependable source I have at my disposal, be they legitimate reviewer of tech or personal acquaintance, agrees that the PS3 is made of sturdier stuff and outlasts the 360 by a fairly wide margin. Is this just a sore subject or is there evidence to the contrary that I've yet to see?

depends on which XBOX you own, any model since the elite is pretty reliable.

Mine is 2 year old and never had a problem, but of course everything is reliable until it breaks.....so well that doesn't say much really.

if it is within warranty, use it. Use it plenty actually, if it is going to break, better let it break within warranty period.

Ok.

What if the Xbox version was 10x better. I know it won't be but would owners of both systems buy the PS version because their Xbox is unreliable.

ok.

Well if Shift 2 is like Shift 1 or like 90% of multiplat's the Xbox version will be superior.

I'd imagine the newer models would be better, but who's to say, really. Gotta wait 'til they get old to know for sure. Glad to hear yours is still on the frontlines, tho, fighting the good fight.

If it was ten times better, I'd say go for the 360 version, obviously. In all likelihood, as you already stated, it won't be, even in the wildest of imaginations. So, what's your question exactly? And if those are indeed questions, may I suggest punctuating them w/ question marks?

You are clearly in here to derail the thread with your attempt at starting a fanboy war! 👎 No need for it.

I made an innocent statement based on what I percieve to be facts, in direct response to the question posed by the OP. Every post since has been in reply to questions pretaining to my original post.

You, sir, if anyone, are "derailing" the thread with your incendiary and borderline useless commentary.

I own both consoles.
I would prefer Shift on Xbox as I find the online to be more stable.
More people tend to have mics. Wether that's a good or bad thing depends on your friends list.

My PS3 library of games traditionally give better force feedback, so this will equate also into my final decision.

Knowing my luck if I got the PS version I would get the YLOD.

As for which version to get because of reliability issues I'll refer to Bayonetta.
A title that was screwed over on PS3.
I wouldn't buy it because my PS3 should last longer.

Still not sure if the reliability issue is all that relevant TBH.

Maybe start a thread dedicated to failure rates amongst console owners eh ?

Have you ever tryed the same game (with the same wheel) in both consoles? and if so are there any differences to the FFB?

I do own F1 for both consoles actually. Don't ask me why lol.

Only received my GT2 wheel about 2 weeks ago.

This is an experiment I will try.
I will run both versions and try them with the exact same in game settings.
Also the same wheel settings.

Don't know why I never tried it before.
I feel like a myth buster lol.

Will have to report back on it tomorrow mate.
Can't get near my TV ATM.

I own both consoles and have had both consoles fail on me and have to be replaced by Sony and Microsoft. Did the Xbox have more failure rates? Yes, but it was also a good marketing decision by them because they own the console market(between the two) on this generation.

The thing that keeps me on the Xbox is Live, a much better online experience than the free Sony version. With the exception of GT5, I use my PS3 as a Blu Ray player. Now with Shift I'm on the fence. If the versions where equal I would go with the 360, but I guess I will let the week playout a bit more and see.

Not the best game to try it (FFB IMO SBT sucks big time on that one :dopey:)
But I will stil be looking foward to your report... because thats something thats been really bugging me.

get it for the 360. if shift 1 is anything to go by, there's bound to be xbox exclusive DLC. for most people, I'd say that you should go with PS3, as it has more wheel compatibility, but when you have a multiplatform wheel like the 911 GT2, I think the 360 is a safer choice.

Ok trib, just for you.

Firstly I set in game settings the same on both titles.

I used the same wheel program on my GT2.

I was surprised at how similar the FF was across both platforms.
Only three very slight differences I noticed.

I took the Lotus around Melbourne.

Xbox.
Now the main version I play is the PS version because I only got my GT2 wheel 2 weeks ago and have been using my G27 since release.

Anyhow I was impressed with the xbox version. Around the twelve o'clock position the FF was very responsive, no FF deadzone at all.

Also accelerating out of a bend seemed to increase the spring return of the wheel. If you can imagine driving your car slowly around a radius and then accelerating the wheel wants to straighten out.

This seemed new to me, odd. So I loaded Instanbull to try turn eight. Felt nice.

Rumbles were all present and correct too.

PS3.

Rumbles felt slightly better to me but really not a lot of difference, just felt nice.

FF around twelve o'clock felt looser. Almost like a drop in FF for a few degrees. Certainly subjective though, many might prefer this feel and there's nothing untoward about it.

Accelerating out of a corner didn't seem as strong on the centre spring but I did notice it. Funny thing about that is that if I hadn't played the Xbox I wouldn't have missed anything lol.

I thought the rumbles felt slightly better on the PS3 but maybe it was just how I ran over them.:)

Bottom line is that really I was surprised how very similar across both platforms FF was.
I was struggling to find differences and I hope I expressed myself ok when basically trying to talk about how a human's touch works:)

Sorry there's no bombshell news mate.

Just a thought, maybe the twelve o'clock FF was dialled back a bit to avoid oscillation on geared type wheels G27 etc.

Thank you very much ;) Im thinking of buying an xbox for Forza (mainly because of the DTM cars :D ) and a fanatec and that was one of my main fears (when I win the lottery :dopey: )

they probably did that (centre spring) on the PS3 to avoid what happens in GT

Unfortunatly in F1 2010 the wheel always tryes to return to center possition (or previous position) even when the car is stoped

I have to hand it to them - one of the thing they did well was keeping both versions (PS3 and Xbox) very similar to each other (even though the fanboys from both consoles claim their version is the best)

Ive been playing F1 CE a lot lately (waiting for Shift 2) and its one of the best racing games I have - IMO its better than F1 2010 because of the FFB, Handling and more competitive AI (not better just more competitive)
