Should I start over?

I've been thinking of starting over GT4.
I'm currently 67.4% complete and I'm working towards 100%, but races in GT mode have become very boring. Only the special condition and mission races (3 left) have any fun or challenge left in them. Will the game become more enjoyable if I start with 10,000 Cr. and no licenses, or should I continue from where I am now?

Oh how I yearn for the good times I had with GT2.

I'm pretty sure there is still challenge left. If anything else fails, you can always try to get to the 100.000 club or something like that.

or try reaching 300 mph on a roadcar. that if what is challenging.. check out the 300 mph club, just to see how it happens and how others are doing. if that isn't a challenge, nothing is. 👍

301.5mph in the Speed 12 within 5 minutes...not really much of a challenge.

@Mr. Boy, there's no point in starting the game again, you're just going to get to the same point again at some point in the future. You could try entering the WRS for a bit of a challenge though...

try to do that in a car that was not planned as street-legar race car, kiddo.. like in Supra, Viper, Saleen S7 etc..

Precisely... irrefutable logic there 👍

If you want more challenge from the game, try optimising the A-Spec points from each race.... (see this thread ) it's an open secret about Gran Turismo... you make it as hard for yourself as you want... but if that doesn't apply to some of the things you've got left to do, then amp88 is even righter than he was a minute ago, check out the WRS link in his post and pit your wits against the best :scared:

I disagree slightly with TM and AMP: You will be just as bored if you start over and use the same strategy.

I was up to 13% and got bored of having too many 1 point races so I started over again with a different strategy. It took me about 5 months to get 100% but I had way too much fun writing the 'Scrooge does GT4' series (Check it out in the race reports forum).

Here are a few things I personally think are worth exploring:
- 100k A-spec point club (no need to re-start)
- Beat the "100% with 2 million credit" record set by Scrooge
- A-Spec the entire game (really surprises me to see so many people with 100% and less than 5000 miles on their own driving)
- Find out the max number of points for each prize car (stock). That one would take a while for sure!

However, you are at 67% and it would take a fair amount of effort to get back to that number. That alone could make it even more boring...

I do agree with themt hat if you want a challenge you should check out the WRS. There are some seriously fast drivers there and since everyone uses the same car in each competition it is really up to the driver's skill to determine the outcome.

You could break the monotony by going after all golds in the license tests, or completing all the missions (34 is a real challenge).

I've taken on trying to acquire one of every model car available.

I long ago completed all the GT races and every now and again I pick up another gold license (only 8 more to gold) and a few credits to buy another auto for my garage (420+ so far).

Funny you should write this though... I'm at 99.8% complete and have considered starting over.. hehehe... crazy ideas inside this head o mine.

Later,

Mr. Boy,

Are you really interested in running GT4 with a challenge?
Can you handle defeat under fair and honest circumstances?

Are you will to improve your skills through hard work?

Can you be honest with yourself and race with honor?

Will you continue to pursue your goal even if repeated failure stands in your way?

If you feel like these questions are worthy of being answered then you may be WRS material.

If you will not give-up then you are WRS material.

The Weekly Race Series is the GTPlanent official series.

You will literally find some of the fastest GT4 racers online in this series.

There are rules and there is honor at the base of those rules.
However, if you're for real, you can continue your current game and at the same time grow to be a faster racer.

Go to the WRS in the "Online Racing" forum of the GTP.
From there head to the "Official" GTP races.
Then head to the "Weekly Race Series."

They will help you; I know many of them well and can vouch for them... They are good people.

Head to the WRS if you wish to play GT at the next level.
Otherwise just keep on as you were and start a new game.

Good luck with your decision but be careful.
Starting a new game will not work well with the option I have shown you.
Be wise and god's speed to you.

Well you could start over BUT...
like others have said, there are plenty of challenges left.

Right now I'm attempting maximum A-spec points after becoming a bit frustrated in some of the driving missions.
I get a real kick when I log-in anything over 150 A-spec points.

I'll start again if I can get this 100% monkey off my back and when I do, my strategy it will be with a DFP (don't have one yet), No B-spec and go for minimal tuning and maximum A-spec. "Edge of the envelope driving".

If you have any time, download some GT4 videos. Watch some excellent drivers (and be prepared to be jealous).

The Toad has left the building.

start to collect all the cars in the game.. I think it is around 734 or somesthing.. that would take some time.. and u will need to complete all lisence test first bronce then silver then gold..

so think about it before u restart.. i´m at 86% right now and i still find is enjoyible but u can join the PMC (photomode competitions) and try your luck and skills in nice pics of cars

there u got some ideas..

but think twice before u start

Mr. Boy,

From past experience I wouldn't recommend restarting. If you've got bored at this point then next time round you'll likely see this point coming up, and you'll get bored before it.

I agree with the "it's as hard as you make it". I'm only on about 20%, and even though I've got the Cien and a Zonda I've only raced the Cien twice - there's no challenge in any of the beginner or professional halls so what's the point?

Check out the race reports section and get a few ideas on what might be challenging (but possible) races and give them a go. If you don't already have a wheel get a DFP - I'm a great fan of racing games, but the wheel makes the game so much better. I'm considering charging one of my friends on a pay-per-play basis as he's always round now. ;)

There's plenty to do in the game - get golds, 200pts races, missions, complete all the races, learn to drift, special conditions hall, learn to drive one drivetrain perfectly, set up a car perfectly, etc. If you've exhausted all these or they don't hold any interest any more then try a different game for a while.

You might come back refreshed, or you might come back and feel exactly the same. Either which way it's a game that you play for fun. As much as I like GT4 I wouldn't recommend you stick at it if you're not enjoying it. Play something else you do enjoy - there's no point playing a game if you don't find it fun. :)

Touring Mars
Oh no, I think he's croaked it...

The emaciated remains of the road kill that formerly was 'The Toad' were then whisked off to some secret British University laboratory to be used by an unscrupulous mad research scientist in his latest quest to rework the Human Genome.

I find that the first part of the game is much more enjoyable than the last part. I have started over at least 7 times before I decided to see if I could get 100% with a-spec only. Now I have started a new game doing all the NA license races first, then get the B licence and do all the B races etc. Just something a little different...

No. You can do plenty of things, like get up to 100%, do some stuff in the WRS, get every car, you know, the usual stuff. Or, you could, oh wait, there isn't too much to be said. May the downforce be with you.

Master_Yoda
well the downforce is just the easy way threw, and you come out as a n00b ;)

on the other hand if you use the upforce...
Just trying some Star Wars jokes... Well, the upforce would be a real invention, no more bumps on the 'Ring... but how would the power be transferred to the road? :D

Thanks for the replies. I won't start over. I'll see how hard I can make the game for myself.

Maybe I should try racing FGTs in arcade mode and let my opponents have a 10 or 20 second head start. That would be fun  .

When I got GT3, I got to 14% complete and started again, but never really got back in to it, and never completed it. It's up to you I guess. I'm only about 2% through GT4, even though I've had it since March. I'm starting to really enjoy it now, and I'm playing for hours at a time. :p

I'm at about 70% and I really can't be bothered with the long series and races. I don't really enjoy driving Le Mans cars and stuff, I mostly just mod and buy cars these days rather than racing for extra %. I'd start again if I had another memory card but I don't.

I would only start again if you get a second memory card.
I have 3 game saves.
1 for my working game that is 100% complete and now going for A spec points.
1 is my back up for my working game.
My other card has all the licenses done with gold passes waiting for my next new game.
Because GT4 is such a long game I dont think I will ever save over a 100% complete game.
