It is said that some standards will get the upgrade to premium. I think that if PD contracted modelers, this could speed up the process very very quickly. They can do the mapping and programming themselves, they just need the model.

I went to school for computer animation 10 years ago. And I tell you that the things they can do now, is jaw dropping. There is some real talent out there. There would be no reason why all standards can't get the upgrade with this approach.

Same thing with the tracks. They could even hold new track design competitions to get new ideas. The best one could make an appearance in a GT title. Sometimes the fantasy tracks are better than the real thing. They won't have to be designed based on safety precautions. Plus great fantasy tracks would only be available with the GT series. You can't race, all the GT originals anywhere else but in GT.

they should, on render forums there are many non-professionals creating models that is more than detailed for GT5, I'd imagine a lot of talent is open for hire/freelance as well.

How do you think all the premiums are made in the first place

by modelers

working at PD.

and btw I think PD is way to keen on details to just hire some non-professionals

Who's to say they don't already?

Go look at some car modelling/rendering forums, the models over there is a coupe times more detailed than what GT5 offers. And those model sells for few hundred dollar a piece too, it ain't amateur work.

Don't have the idea that PD is the only company on earth that models cars.

It yould me nice if we could have premiums in the used car dealert, because i like the idea of "serching" for cars.

theres a difference between presentation modelling and game modelling. It's not as simple as making a model and putting it ingame, there's other factors to.

Well, i cant say that Kaz is a perfectionist because many cars are modelled from scale models, also known as toy cars.

Sure, the models must be modeled for realtime rendering but that shouldn't be the problem.
I would say the problem is PD itself: They would never use help from external sources, they would never outsource content for their lifework named GT.

That's why I said contract if you had read. I know modelers at PD modeled what they have now. Are all cars premium, no. They could use some help. Non professionals are just as good as the pros. How do yo think they become pros. You have to have schooling for that in which is where they get hired from. Besides if you knew anything about modeling, you'd know that they can do the same thing as PD modelers. I didn't say get Joe Smoe off the street. They wouldn't hire just anyone. To contract, you still have to go thru an interview process and show what your capable of.

and why is that. I didn't flame, point fingers or downgraded GT5 in anyway. You didn't even have to respond if your not going to contribute something positive than....close the thread. Let me guess, your not open to the idea because your the vice president at PD and you want to do all the work yourself. Besides I did no worse than you when you posted leaked info/video before the game was even released.

That's all and well, and I do model and do 3D stuff as a hobby, but creating models for games and creating models for art and pleasure are 2 different things.

GT5 probably has several layers and different models of the same car for LOD requirements.

Maintaining quality and consistency would be much more difficult with this method. Trying to teach random contractors the specifics for their modeling would take way more time than just doing it with the in-house modelers. Also, if anything had to be changed/fixed/manipulated, it would be even more difficult as every modeler has their own workflow, and therefore the models would be grouped, smoothed, etc differently.

In an ideal world, sure, it's a great idea. But in reality most of the modelers out there don't know how to correctly and efficiently model for a game environment like GT5, especially sine it's already very taxing on the console. A minor glitch in a model could invoke months of bug bashing. If it were just for presentation, it would be different.

Not trying to start a 'fanboy' debate here (I hate those) but would it be a good, if unlikely idea for GT and Forza to merge? Get PD to handle the physics and most of the moddeling and get Forzas good modelers to work on whatever PD can't model and the customisation options. Not too sure who to get to work on the online because they are both flawed. This would lead to new manufacturers (Porsche obviously the main one) and tracks in future GT/Forza games.

I think Turn 10 hired two separate modelling teams for them to model the cars. I think if PD could find a high quality modelling team, then they should get them to model most of the necessary standard cars and not the many variations. They could probably get about another 400 of the 800 cars to be premium and cut down on the many variations they have. I doubt they will do that though as they didn't do it in the first place which is when it would have made the most sense.

They are likely to hire more modellers though. The quality of the modelling is amazing on the Premium cars and will last more or less for every generation of consoles out from now on in. They are future proof, as far as interior and exterior is concerned. The only way they could go further is modelling every internal part but that will take way too much time and money.
