Chevrolet vs. Ford. Toyota vs. Nissan. Subaru vs. Mitsubishi. Holden vs. Ford Australia. Camaro vs. Mustang. Supra vs. Skyline. Impreza/WRX vs. Lancer. GTPlanet, this topic is all about rivalries and if they should be focused on in the next GT to make racing more interesting. If you remember Gran Turismo 1, there were three types of rivalry races: USA vs. Japan, Japan vs. UK, and USA vs. UK. When it comes to Australia, I've always stated that there were Tickfords but no Ford Australia in GT3. GT4 features Ford Australia and Holden, but GT4 has only the Ford Falcon V8 Supercar with no Holden V8 Supercar. I'm sure muscle car fans really like the Camaro vs. Mustang rivalry, but it would be really interesting if there was a Series Race featuring the Camaro/Mustang rivalry. If you like rivalries and totally dislike American cars, maybe Toyota vs. Nissan is your cup of tea. Of course, Toyota and Nissan REALLY don't like each other in racing. If there was a Rivalry Series, races would go from Vitz's/Echoes/Yaris' and Micras all the way up to GT500 Supras and GT500 Skylines, maybe even up to Toyota GT-Ones and Nissan R390s.

So people, do you think the next GT should focus on automotive and motorsports rivalries and come up with interesting race series and even championships? Hey, rivalries happen in all sports, even motorsports. So don't think I'm trying to bring college football and college basketball to racing. How about it? Automotive and racing rivalries that you can control in the next GT. Reply on.

I thought you were going to suggest character rivalries. I think having a "character" as your player, and then interact with other "npcs" (computer players) would be a good idea. I don't know much about what you mean though, like a one-on-one mustang vs camaro race?

Any chance to show the world who really makes the best sports cars out there is more than welcome to me. :D Though honestly, I'm sort of a turncoat on the issue because as much as I love US sports cars, I have a real soft spot for the Mitsubishi 3000GT.

Ditto. Manufacturer rivalries is ... meh ...

How about a set of Driving Missions, each with a specific rivalry? Without missions like "The Pass", or the slipstreaming battles. There could be one-lap head-to-head shootouts, a ten lap race with a full field, a certain gap to fill within three laps (no wait time please), and so on. They wouldn't be as much Driving Missions as they would be single races, rather than series'. And maybe you could even choose which car to use!

Not that I'd prefer this to several series, but it's an alternative.

p.s.- Mustangs are good, but Camaro > Mustang.

I actually like the slipstream battles, it did teach you how to beat a race with equal cars and straightforward track. But they could add that to driving missions. Whichever car you use, you win a special edition of it. For example, if you race the STi vs MR battle in an STi, you win a rally edition of the Impreza or something, same if you raced with the MR, only it'll be a Lancer rally edition.

Oh no, I like all the missions (except 34). I just meant that there wouldn't be any such missions applying these rivalries. That's also a good idea about the prize cars, but that should only work for series races; one spot race isn't enough work for a prize car.

I don't know much about automotive rivalries in Europe, so I left Europe out of this. Or does Europe have some popular heated street car rivalries like in America, Japan, or Australia? I bet the American car fans will really enjoy the Camaro vs. Mustang rivalry in the next Gran Turismo. You talk about two car companies who just do not like each other, the Camaro/Mustang battle was over what... 35+ years strong? Of course, GM vs. Ford here in the States is probably the biggest rivalry here. This is true on the road and in racing series like Trans-Am, the NHRA, and the motorsport everyone "loves," NASCAR.

Subaru vs. Mitsubishi would be interesting if the series was part road racing, part rally. Both groups are great in rallying, but road racing would also be interesting. It can be the Cusco Subaru Impreza vs. the Mitsubishi Taeivon-Trampio FTO in road racing. Then of course, every man (and woman) for themselves with the rally racing.

Since tuners are part of the world of automobiles, are there any tuner group rivalries? Most of you who follow the scene more than I do can probably answer that.
