Shouldn't We Be Able to Adjust Stock Ballast?

In most race cars, isn't it correct that the cars at their stock weight already have ballast weight that the teams could move around to change the balance? Shouldn't we be able to move some of the weight around too in order to change the balance instead of having to add weight?

I feel like this would really help the MR cars with their off throttle problems if we could adjust the ballast that is already there forward a bit, but as of right now we have no way of adjusting it without adding in pointless weight.

Perhaps...for race cars. Then again, race cars tend to also have adjustable suspensions that can be tuned to subdue oversteer tendencies. Road cars are another can of worms entirely, and the cars that benefit most from adapted driving techniques (you really shouldn't be driving an MR like an FR)--or that would benefit from ballast repositioning--tend to be road cars.

You can reduce the weight, and subsequently add it back to stock weight while shifting it to your desired position.

I think what the OP means is that Race cars often have a weight limit. When the car is built it will most likely be lower than this limit so to conform to the regulations it will have ballast added, which the OP like to be able to adjust.

The teams often do this on purpose so that they can easily adjust the balance of the car. On top of that, cars are often given extra ballast to level out performance against other cars, which would be separate to success ballast used in some touring car series.

I don't know if the cars on the game come with their original weight or if they use a ballasted weight though, so if they don't come already ballasted you could always find out the cars race weight then add some ballast to make up for it.

Agreed. It should be adjustable to a certain point. So much left undone, PD.
I forgot that weight cannot be removed from Race Cars.

Yes that is what op meant

In some cases yes but the system is simplistic & if anything you have to much control, you can place it where you like which is not the case in RL. So you can for instance place less weight far forward rather than more weight slightly forward to achieve the same effect.
Also keeping weight central is important to handling & the reason for MR anyway & the game probably does not model this enough.
So I would say no tune out the issues if need be, your talking about race cars so have adjustable suspension anyway.

I do agree some MR cars handling is pants but they have been improved & there are very few now that cant be tuned to work, even if they are still a bit twitchy compared to FRs

A big problem is the fact that many of them have a pretty massive rearward weight bias, some as much as 46:54

I think road cars should be adjustable.
Most are equipped with a spare wheel, tools, jack, etc that you could theoretically relocate around the vehicle

I know but it can be got round, a good example of a no ballast tune is Praiano's Audi R8 LMS Ultra.

I agree moving weight is an easy fix but on the whole I prefer to keep cars weight bog standard as messing with it can totally lose the character of the car.

Theoretically you cant relocate a spare wheel in anywhere around the vehicle...each car has a specific slot for it,and the biggest part of then doesnt have space for relocate it. And please don't tell me that you're going to put it on passengers seats...

Some old Subaru's have the spare wheel under the bonnet at the front.
You can easily re-locate it to the rear

Or you can scrap it to save weight, after all,you will not need it in GT6.

would be like removing un-wanted seats, etc for a track day.
you can "move" the COG by removing say the front passenger seat (upwards of 20KG for a electric, heated, leather seat)
or remove the rear seats, speakers, boot-mounted sub, etc

Bags of cement sit nicely in a footwell

Have you ever unbolted seats etc for a track day? Sure put on new tyres & even lightweight wheels. So long as you checked them out previously of course changing wheels can have a major impact on the handling.

yep,
pulled out drivers and rear seats,
glovebox (and all the crap in it)
wagon floor panels/ spares/ jack, etc
over 150kg worth of junk from a 1500kg car. 10% weight reduction

Sorry for double post
However that does argue against the original post in this thread.
Do stage 1 weight reduction or better then add ballast if you need to is what that says.

cheaper than adding 10% power.. :D
