GTPlanet, I've taken a break from college football threads, so for NFL fans, this thread is about the job Ben Roethlisberger has done for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

If it's one thing I normally dislike, it's people saying that "he's a rookie quarterback." Maybe I should stop siding with sports reporters in talking about Big Ben as "just a rookie." If anything angers me, it's hearing that quote against Roethlisberger. So he's never been to the Playoffs before. So he hasn't the Tom Brady dominance. I'll tell you this. The AFC title game isn't a case of "I told you so," but more like "how about some respect, please?" This dude is badass. I think he's been that way since I really paid attention to him at the 2003 GMAC Bowl when Miami-Ohio faced Louisville. I may stop watching "Around the Horn" because of all the overrated talk about Roethlisberger supposed to be a rookie and all. Do people expect people to be like David Carr (Houston Texans) when he was sacked 76 times? Expect him to win 4 games an not even come close to the playoffs? I'll say this right now. If Roethlisber started for the Steelers in Game One, Pitt would probably be undefeated heading into the playoffs. I've always believed in Roethlisberger, and I think he's a little underappreciated, especially among the American sports media.

So GTPlanet, if you would like to congratulate Roethlisberger for his efforts all season long, counting the postseason, here's your thread.

He had an awesome regular season, it's just a shame that he couldn't perform that way in the playoffs. Either way, the playoffs were a learning experience for him.

I totally agree with you about how harsh some of the sports announcers were on him too, John. He's a ****ing rookie who won 15 games in a row for god's sake, give him a break. Not one single fan in Pittsburgh ever expected their team to go 15-1 this year, most of us didn't even expect to go to the playoffs, especially with a team that remained virtually unchanged other than the additions of Roethlisberger and Staley. With all of the experience that he gained during the season, and especially during his first trip to the NFL playoffs, I know he's only going to keep getting better. Watch out, New England, next year's AFC championship belongs to Pittsburgh.

Here's to next season, 2005-2006 Super Bowl champions? I think so. 👍

As far as I'm concerned, Pittsburgh is still Roethlisburgh.

You're right, Sublime. I mean, Roethlisberger and company made the teams he beat look more like a college game. His alma mater of Miami-Ohio is no Auburn or Ohio State, but he plays about as tough as some of the tough college conferences in the nation. Roethlisberger, "The Bus," Duce Staley, they all played their asses off. And when it came to the second Steelers vs. Patriots meeting, it was a case of "Pittsburgh lost to a better team," not "Roethlisberger isn't perfect." In fact, I don't think I've heard many sports reporters commend Roethlisberger.

You know, like when New England were embarassed by Pittsburgh in the regular season, a lot of credit went out to the Patriots for their 21-game win streak. But when Roethlisberger lost his first game as a starter, they were like "we knew this was going to happen." Now answer me this. How fair is that? Do you think Roethlisberger is underrated or overrated? To finish at 15-1 by a rookie is quite an accomplishment. In fact, I'd put him in the Pro Bowl. He hasn't a lot of NFL experience, but the kid needs to be commended for his work.

I'm going to leave for now, but for now, here's a quote by Jay Mariotti (Chicago Sun Times). Make your response to this quote after the Steelers' overtime win over the New York Jets:

"...the Steelers should have lost that game."
