There are lots of threads covering the worst aspects of online play and a piece of advice I often read is "if you want clean racing, don't bother with public lobbies".
Well I'm here to say emphatically that this is not the case.
Yes, there are some punters around but get to know some good room hosts, spend some time looking around the lobbies, add the host and any other clean racers to your friends list and in a very short time your experience will be far more positive.
The number of clean racers in the rooms I visit (mostly shuffle races I admit) seems to be going up by the week, I'm not sure if this is because newer racers are become more adept or whether the casual punter is moving onto the latest and greatest game BUT it does feel like it is getting cleaner out there.
The good thing about that and your participation in clean racing in public lobbies is that clean racers beget clean racers. The more of you who come out and race clean, the more clean racers will want to stick around. Exponential growth baby, that's what I'm talkin'bout.
And if you do get hit, don't go all cave man and punt right back, take the higher ground.
If you're faster you'll find a way around and even if you can't, don't rue the loss of a place. It's only a game. Stay clean and make light of it in the lobby after the race. "Hey man, my rear fender/bumper isn't your brake, there should be a pedal or button somewhere! : ) ". If there are repeated reports of ramming by a single lobby member most hosts I race with will take the right action and send them packing pretty swiftly. If they don't, other lobby members can "Vote to kick" a racer (press triangle on their name in the lobby and select the option from the menu). This doesn't start a public vote but if enough racers select the option the rammer will be kicked by default.
So, public lobby racers, post up your stories about clean public lobby racing and if you have GT5 replays to share all the better.
Let's spread the message: don't be afraid of us public lobby dwellers, we're not all here to punt you into the sand.
