just ask
There are lots of threads covering the worst aspects of online play and a piece of advice I often read is "if you want clean racing, don't bother with public lobbies".

Well I'm here to say emphatically that this is not the case.

Yes, there are some punters around but get to know some good room hosts, spend some time looking around the lobbies, add the host and any other clean racers to your friends list and in a very short time your experience will be far more positive.

The number of clean racers in the rooms I visit (mostly shuffle races I admit) seems to be going up by the week, I'm not sure if this is because newer racers are become more adept or whether the casual punter is moving onto the latest and greatest game BUT it does feel like it is getting cleaner out there.

The good thing about that and your participation in clean racing in public lobbies is that clean racers beget clean racers. The more of you who come out and race clean, the more clean racers will want to stick around. Exponential growth baby, that's what I'm talkin'bout.

And if you do get hit, don't go all cave man and punt right back, take the higher ground.

If you're faster you'll find a way around and even if you can't, don't rue the loss of a place. It's only a game. Stay clean and make light of it in the lobby after the race. "Hey man, my rear fender/bumper isn't your brake, there should be a pedal or button somewhere! : ) ". If there are repeated reports of ramming by a single lobby member most hosts I race with will take the right action and send them packing pretty swiftly. If they don't, other lobby members can "Vote to kick" a racer (press triangle on their name in the lobby and select the option from the menu). This doesn't start a public vote but if enough racers select the option the rammer will be kicked by default.

So, public lobby racers, post up your stories about clean public lobby racing and if you have GT5 replays to share all the better.

Let's spread the message: don't be afraid of us public lobby dwellers, we're not all here to punt you into the sand.

Exporting replay files to a PC

1) Insert a USB stick into your PS3.

2) Start GT5.

3) Enter GT Life.

4) Enter the replay section (icon that looks like a little like a side on video camera three rows below the community tab).

5) Find the replay you want to export, press the triangle button and select Export Save Data from the pop up menu.

6) A dialogue box appears with the text This process may take some time. Are you sure?. Select yes, it will only take a few moments unless the race is a 40+ lap Suzuka endurance.

7) An XMB esque menu will appear with New Replay Data highlighted. Press the X button here and then select Yes when asked Do you want to save this data?.

8) A progress bar will appear followed by a Save completed message. Press the O button to return to the replay menu.

9) Exit to GT Life and then quit the game back to the XMB.

10) in the game of the XMB menu scroll to Saved Data Utility (PS3) and press X.

11) Scroll through the game folders until you find your GT5 folder. Press X. In this folder you will find your game save and any saved replays. When you scroll onto a replay file you will be able to see details of the race (track, car, driver and date and time) so you can easily find the one you want to export. When you do press the triange button and select Copy.

12) The next screen will have the title Select the destination, scroll down one from the online PSN+ storage and select USB Device (Flash Disk) by pressing X.

13) A copying progress bar will appear. When this is complete press O to return to your saved replay list, O again to return to your save folders and O again to return to the XMB.

14) Take the USB stick out of the PS3 and insert it into your PC.

15) On the USB stick root you will find a folder named PS3 and in that folder one named SAVEDATA, inside that you will find a folder that ends with RPLnnn (where nnn are digits). This folder will contain the following files:

ICON0
PARAM.PFD
PARAM.SFO
PIC1
REPLAY.0
REPLAY.n (where n is an increasing number, the longer the replay the more REPLAY.n files will be in the folder)

Zip this folder up into a compressed file. Call it whatever you like but it is useful to note whether your system is a PAL or NTSC system as replays are only compatible with the same system type.

16) Upload this file to any fileshare site.

17) Share it in this thread!

Importing Replay Files

1) Download the file from the hosting site.

2) Insert USB into PC.

3) The file should come as a .zip or similar compressed file, unpack/unzip the file onto a USB drive under the folder path:

x:\PS3\SAVEDATA\BCESnnnnn-RPLnnn

4) Insert USB into PS3.

5) On the XMB Game menu select Saved Data Utility (PS3), then select USB Device (Flash Disk). Finally navigate to your replay file, press the triangle button and then select Copy.

6) A copying progress bar will appear. When this is complete press O to return to your saved replay list, O again to return to your save folders and O again to return to the XMB.

7) Start GT5.

8) Enter GT Life.

9) Enter the replay section (icon that looks like a little like a side on video camera three rows below the community tab).

10) Select Import (an icon just above the search icon).

11) Select the correct replay save file and press X. Select Yes when asked to confirm the loading of saved data.

12) Kick back and watch some racing!

I'll start, below is a replay of a great shuffle race.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XWSGHR66

Three of us pulled away from the pack and were basically bumper to bumper all the way round for the rest of the race. I'm in the Golf and I fluffed the last chicane on the last lap and broke the suspension and engine but placings didn't matter after a quality race. :)

Two more clean drivers added to the friend list. :D

There is no need for double or triple posting. Edit the OP. And replays can be shared a lot easier if you FR them.

Actually I deliberately put them in three posts for ease of use reasons.

With regards to sharing with friends, that's great but I have a pretty full friends list and want to see other peoples replay files.

Anyway, thanks for the contribution. : )

To be completely honest, 90% of online lobby's either don't let me in or server kick me after a minute or two. However, I have met and added some compatible hosts & I barely ever see rammers or the like in these rooms.
While I do have some cool replays, I don't feel Its worth my trouble to upload them. Sorry :guilty:
