It was shower time this morning at the Zoo. First up was the Cockatoo, then the Macaw. The Too isn't an enthusiatic bather. The Macaw on the other hand, absolutely loves it.

I snapped a couple quick pictures, jsut to give you an idea of how big he is. Three towels to mop up the floor from the water he threw every where.

Ever watched a sparrow play in a puddle? Same thing, just alot bigger.

(those are 4" tiles in the back ground)

how much were your birds?

my aunt's sister had a cockatoo.

I thought you meant you were in the shower with them. Do they eat worms?

Bye all. Nice knowing you. I've a feeling I'm about to be banninated....

Stands in queue with daan.

Can't you just put a big bowl of water into their cage/enclosure and let them go nuts?

Actually, I do shower with them, he hops onto my arm, and I stick him in his entirety under the shower head. He absolutely loves it. I get beat up from wings and tail shaken every which direction.

I could put a bowl in their cage, but at that point it becomes a toy. I've seen this guy (Hiw name is Neo) throw 12" cast iron pans around with ease. IT'd have to be a big bowl, and that water most likely would end up on my floor.

Worms, grubs, steak, chicken wings, pasta broccoli, eggs, bread, you name it, we've fed it to them. WIth the a few exceptions.

That picture really doesn't do him justice. His colors are much more vibrant in person.

He cost us $2400. Yes, two thousand four hundred. That's just him, not including his cage. Out of our 11 birds he's the only one we paid for. All the rest came to us as Rescues or hand offs.

A parrot is not an impulse buy.

Thanks guys.

Hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngh!

Lita, a Greater Sulphur Crested Cockatoo at ACPR was over 50 when she passed away last week.

Baby, my wife's cockatoo is in his mid 40's and my cockatiel is now 13.

At ACPR there is a lovebird, that is 22 years old.

So yes, many of them do out live their owners.
