Showroom Stock Racing
With a twist!
With a twist!
The idea:
I'll start by saying that I'm a huge fan of shuffle racing. When I'm online I'm either in a free run lobby mucking around, or in a shuffle lobby getting some good clean and competitive laps in against good competitors.
Thus I naturally thought about doing a shuffle racing series... but in the end it just seemed too complex to do long races every seventh day of the week. The idea of shuffling would be ruined since the grids would be reset.
Instead, I've thought of taking shuffle racing and using it once to decide a field of showroom stock street cars for competitors to use in a regular series.
Of course, I could simply post a list of cars that everyone can use but the problem I find with that is that everyone does that on here. I decided to try to use shuffle racing to make picking which car you're going to use interesting.
Another challenge that is added using this method is that you cannot tune your car, so if the vehicle you choose is a bit off pace, you'll need to master it in order to wring out as much speed as you can.
Season opening shuffle series.
Now don't fret, we're not going to simply do one shuffle race and that's the car you get stuck with. Instead all of us competitors will stack up in a lobby and perform a short series of five shuffle races in succession with shuffle point on 1. Here's how it will break down:
The first race will be fastest first and the following four races will be reverse field order. Skid Recovery Force will be ON. All other aides will be OFF with the exception of ABS.
Race 1: Trial Mountain /5Laps
Race 2: Trial Mountain /5Laps
Race 3: Rome Circuit /5Laps
Race 4: Rome Circuit /5Laps
Race 5: Suzuka Circuit /5Laps
Using fewer tracks helps to reduce time between races and the possibility of the lobby lagging out, thus spending more time racing. At the end of the series, the cars that you participated in are the list of cars that you must now choose from to determine your entry.
Lets say the list goes like this:
Race 1: Mercedes E55 AMG
Race 2: Maserati Gran Turismo
Race 3: Lotus Elise Sport 190
Race 4: Shelby Series 1
Race 5: Jaguar XFR
You can now pick from any of the above cars to participate in. Beware though, that entries can not be duplicated more than twice, so if two other participants have selected a car that you are selecting, you may have to make another selection.
So, looking at that list of vehicles, let slim things down by pretending that you don't own a Mercedes E55 AMG. That's okay since you didn't like that car anyways and finished 8th out of 12 in that race.
Next there's the Maserati which wasn't too bad and it's a car you can easily acquire if you need to, but it's still a little tail happy.
Then there's the Lotus which handles well and is great in the turns but will lose you any race that has a long straightaway.
Now we get to the car you won a race in, the Shelby. Only problem is that you don't own this car either AND two other competitors also raced Shelby's and they've made their selection's before you since they finished higher than you did at the end of the series and their picks count first* (Subject to change).
Lastly we get the Jaguar XFR, which you didn't prefer, but the car had the power and wasn't as tail happy as the other cars. You own it and while you finished 4th in the race... you started last. So you know you can move through the field with the car.
Once everyone picks a car, we move on to the regular season.
Regular season
The season will consist of five events at varying tracks. Events will be anywhere from 10 to 30 laps depending on the track.
Tuning will be prohibited. The cars must be completely stock with the exception of tuned brake bias.
Damage will be set to realistic. Remember to pick a car that you're comfortable driving as consistent laps can trump overall speed quite frequently when performance margins are so narrow. If you have a fast car and run yourself into a wall then you now need to make the long trek to the pit.
Track side will be real. Wanna know how long it takes a 200hp car to get out of a sandtrap? A long time. Again, pick a car you're comfortable with.
Aides will be off. ABS is permitted to be at 1, but SRF will now be set to OFF since you're encouraged to practice in the cars you picked.
Substitutions for cars are allowed in some cases. Example: You race a standard RX-8 in the heat races. You are permitted to swap it for the premium RX-8 available from the dealership. Example: You get a Honda Civic Type R '04 (EP). You are permitted to swap it for another Honda Civic Type R (EP) but you are not permitted to swap it for any other Civic Type R.
More details to come, what do you think?
