Shox!

This thread is for everyone to post their love for a little known and under-appreciated PS2 game. If you have not heard of this game before maybe it will encourage you to go out and get it!

Shox was created by EA Sports Big, the same development company behind the SSX series. This game definately fits in with the "Extreme" design of their other games as it is a fast paced, ultra-arcade racing speed fest. The game offers arcade like controls similiar to other arcade rally games such as Sega Rally. Shox is the farthest thing from a sim racing game that you will find as the physics provide for spectacular jumps and crashes. Also, there is no manual transmission in this game. Just gas, brake, and hold on tight!

Shox contains numerous courses spread out over three areas consisting of jungle, desert, and snow/ice stages. The track system is similiar to Ridge Racer where there is one stage but numerous course layouts designed within that stage. The courses offer huge jumps and lots of tight turns.

The object of the game is to race and progress through the four championship levels. On each track there are three "Shox Zones" which are like speed traps that you have to race through as fast as possible. Set a good time through the Shox Zone and you get a Gold, Silver, or Bronze award. The Shox Zones provide you with a chance to make extra money and even unlock special editions of some of the rally cars.

There are numerous cars in this game spanning all types of real rally cars. To get a new car you don't just unlock them or purchase them, you have to gamble for them! Earning money in the game allows you to game for a new car by performing a point-to-point race against the computer. Win and the car is yours. Lose and you will have to gamble again but the cost of the wager will be reduced.

Here is a list of the cars in the game. The cars take visual damage during the game. Windows will get broken, headlights will shatter, and bumpers and body panels will fall off. This damage has no effect on the cars performance though. After each race you must use some of the money you earned to repear the damages to the car.

So go ahead and post your appreciation for this game. If you don't have this game then I highly recommend picking it up. I have seen Shox at my local game stores for under $5 so you cannot go wrong!

I had ShoX for a week...then I changed it back. It was fun but it was impossible to beat it. Stupid AI being so damn good :grumpy: :dunce:

I got Shox rather recently. Fun as hell, it really is SSX with cars! The physics, though decidedly arcadey, are pretty convincing, kinda like Rallisport Challenge 2. The sound is ok, the graphics are dated by now but aren't sickening, and the car selection is pretty sweet...too bad the career mode gets really old, really fast...and I can't get my friends to play it with me..........so I haven't really played it more than 2-3 evenings.......
