Lately when I exit the race from seasonal events the game would freeze on the black screen with GT logo in the middle, is it just bug or the sign of my ps3 dying?
I haven't had any problem with other because lately GT5 is what I play most of the time

GT5 freezes if you sneeze while it is loading post-Spec II. It is a reversion of a bug that PD had fixed back in 1.09 (or maybe 1.10). Most likely has nothing to do with your PS3.

I'm relieved to hear that, I'll probably sneeze outside next time:tup:

In the meantime, try turning off custom music if it bothers you that much. That can supposedly lower the chances of it freezing.

What I did myself was turn off music all together. I seen a little performance upgrade from doing so. Reason for me doing that was because I was annoyed that when you change menus the song would change and what not. Its better off without all the music unless you really just want to sit in the main menu listening to the music.

Could be caused by custom soundtrack and also could be caused by slow response from the server/internet connection.

Like mentioned above, it's just a bug or the game trying to read your custom soundtrack. GT5 doesn't have what it takes to kill a PS3.

Not to worry you, but when your PS3 dies, it won't even give you signs. It will just freeze and turn off without notice, and unfortunatelly YLOD comes after. Trust me, I'm in my second PS3 now.

if you get a lot of game freezes and bad shutdowns (when the PS3 beeps before turning off) then it's on it's last leg

Tell that to my old 40gb. For almost five years it worked like the day when I unpacked it brand new. One day, after installing Mod Nation Racers and getting ready for the intro race, it froze just when I was about to take the first turn, and shut off.

It never turned on again... It just did the dreadful beeping, yellow light and then the flashing red light. It catched me completely off-guard.

I also turned off all music. Don't forget to occasionally clear the cache in the GT options menu.

bad shutdowns (when the PS3 beeps before turning off).

My PS3 did this to me for the first time last week. In the middle of a race, and all of the sudden "beep beep beep" shut down. I'm not completely sure it was the PS3 by itself though, because right after it happened I noticed my DSL router re-connecting with the internet.... maybe it was just a power surge?

The system randomly shutting down and beeping thrice I think means it is overheating, and indeed might be on its last legs.

It indeed, does. I went through this an unGodly amount of times on my launch fat lady. After a million reflows she had enough, and I buried her with Jimmy Hoffa. But the thrice beep always preceded that glorious glow of yellow, which led me to grab my heat gun and flux.

On my side my GT5 disc runs fast and loud in my Ps3, which isn't the case for any other game I play. My Ps3 is only 3 years old...

Fans running fast all the time is the main one, once that is happening your PS3 will take a while but will eventually die at a unpredictable time, i.e. Halfway through an online match on MW3!!!

I have had my old school fatty ps3 since 3 months after release and about 9 months ago I noticed that the fans were running fast 95% of the time I played GT.
I vacuumed all the vents and that reduced the amount of time the fans run flat out by about 50%.
Oh and I back up data at least once a week just incase.

Freezing the menus but still playing music and showing other movement oin screen.. just no curser movement
had this for a while.. then mine died

Mine didn't suffer, no strange behaviour or freezing, just went in the blink of an eye. Unfortunately I hadn't backed up for some time so it's going to be a pain getting the data off my old HDD.

Since ~September, I've had to unplug the power cord about 5 times, also hold down the power button to get a reset about 4 times. No data loss yet, no need for any other fancy maintenance stuff (who knows though, maybe a reinstall would stop the freezing).

The freeze point appears random in location and ps3-On time.
The case is not hot, and the fan is quiet but operational.
The PS3 is ~11 months old, ~100GB free space, used enough to get A&BSpec lvl40 with a bit over 100,000 miles +online freerun hours...
AFAIK, this was not a problem before I changed from a DFP wheel to a DFGT wheel

It's pretty straight forward, one of the following is the problem:
PS3 (hardware or software)
GT5 (Update)
DFGT Wheel
PSN Network

If I get pissed off enough, I will try to eliminate PSN Network and Wheel from the equation...

I've noticed it shutting down and beeping 3 times only when it freezes when I'm online in a lobby and try to quit the game to restart..I don't think 3 beeps means your ps3 is dying..also vaccume all the dust out of the system too helps to push more hot air out that is blocked by dust

Vaccume out the dust and another big thing I do is never turn off the system from the back..also leave it turned off in standby mode..no need to flip the power switch in the back unless your unplugging it..

If the system shuts down and beeps after it freezes, that is completely different than if it just shuts down in the middle of gameplay and beeps.
