Hello,

Im searching for a silent wheel because I can only play at late evenings when my wife is going to sleep (she is getting up very early). I had dfgt in other apartment and she compleined sometimes but I could play. Now we are in new apartment and computer/console is in other room but was louder enought that i had to sell my DFGT because she couldnt sleep... She is quite sensitive - I had to change my logitech gamepad because it clicks woke her up also I get a silent keyboard.

I would like to get a new wheel now wchich would be silent. I was reading about G27 and almost bought it but I have found some movies on youtube with pedals clicking and the noise of gear box when you change gears... I saw some people modded theirs pedals/gearbox to make them quite silent but that would void my warranty:(

Can you propose me something? I bet there are some people playing late and have some ideas or maybe there is an other really silent wheel ?

Thanks in advance,
Lucas

The Thrustmaster T300rs is supposed to bebe pretty quiet.
I can tell you in a few days :D

I use a T500RS, and it's MUCH quieter than a G27. My computer rig is located in our family room and I race with headphones on, so when my wife is watching TV, she's not really bothered by the sounds.

Get an Oculus Rift so you won't need to tether yourself to a flatscreen or speakers nearest your wifey. This is because the Rift is a headmounted display with its own built in headphones. What that means is you now how the mobility to game literally anywhere you have a place to power on your computer (like a wall outlet in a closet!) Do like I intend to do when the rift comes out and make a mancave out of a closet. If you have one big enough to feel comfortable in, you could add a cooling fan, some LED lights to keep the heat down, and maybe even some soundproofing to the walls if you wanted to. Sounds insane I know, but I don't have the money or extra room in my house to make a designated man cave. Why does your surroundings matter anyways when your entire periphery will be surrounded by the screen, you'll forget you're in a closet. The answer to your question is maybe. Maybe theres a wheel out there thats silent, maybe not. Pedals will always be loud when you stomp on them. Paddle shifters will always make some kind of noise. My solution for you is to get away from where you will bother her, and then you can be totally free to talk to other drivers, you could add tactile audio transducers to your rig, or just simply to relax and enjoy the game without worrying about waking her

Punknoodle She cant use it no more.

Yesterday I bought a G27 in a shop where I can return it for 30 days... The wheel is quite silent on lowered FF effects but the pedals + manual gear box is so loud when I change gears fast. Sad is that I will have to return it.

Thrustmaster T300RS seems like it will be a quiet wheel, this is one of the reasons I want to upgrade from the G27 to it.

ALL wheels/Pedals and shifter's are going to have their own Unique sounds, There's no 2 ways around it.

That is right what you said, I don't think you are never going to have Pedals and shifter's that make no noise at all.

Maybe it could be with mods:

Any one has done it and can confirm its quiet ?

No I have not done this, Looking at the second video, if you are going to put the pedals on to the wood like in the video you are sill going to get a clunking noise from the pedals. If you want something that is going to be quite so you wife can have a good night sleep is to use the DS3 controller.

You do want belt driven. TX is a bit more silent then the T500RS but they both need fan mods then they can be truly silent. small super cheap high pitched whine fans is very popular in consumer wheels.

As for pedals the T500RS pedals is excellent also. Use skateboard bushings instead of the supplied mod as that little spring can eech a little.

I think it would be much quieter. I have read some forums and someone said it lowered te noise even to 90%. I would install it to wheel stand pro deluxe not any wood I dont have much space. And the gear box modded sounds quite silent too. Also it doesnt look hard to do.

If someone has dont it please give review.

I don't know how you'll ever get a wheel to be quieter than a gamepad or a keyboard. Even the clicking of the microswitches in the G27's paddle shifters is louder than a keyboard and the pedals? Well, you already know how loud they are. I don't have any experience with any alternatives but they're going to have to be something pretty special to not make any noise at all, especially if a pad or keyboard were too loud. I'm sure it'd just be easier to soundproof the door to your bedroom.

The only way is try it like in the video and see for yourself and see if it is quieter or not.

I think regarding the pedals, if you did it smarter and built a solid caseing with wood/plywood it would absolutely dampen the sound. He talks about the "proper" way of doing it (knowing full well that was as temporary of a solution as it get's), grinding some of the metal off and adding some hard rubber material you're going to have what you're looking for. Of course this involves taking measurements (and I guess owning some basic tools) to make sure it all fits and can be bolted to your wheel stand.

The T500/TX/T300 will ALL be quieter than the DFGT/G27 because there is far less gear whine and chatter. Even considering the fans.

G27 is STRAIGHT OUT the loudest wheel I've owned.

As for pedals, those little rubber "feet" you can get for vases and whatnot strategically placed would help with the occasional clunk, plus just not pedaling like a caveman.

I suggest you get whatever wheel you want and these: http://www.hibermate.com/

Thanks for all answers.

Finally I bought a new G27 and made both mods (gear shift as above and pedals I have only put some tape there without disasembling the wires to make the noise after you release the pedal more quiet). Im after a week of using it:) Wife says its quiet now once she heard something when I played maybe too emotional but its ok I can play:)
In GT6 wheel is almost totally silent but I cant play it no more because of meeting with assetto corsa:)

Cheers.
