Similar to a previous submission of mine with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, I saw a couple of threads with different versions of this track (historical ones in this case), but was surprised that no one had created a thread for the present day version ever since it left the franchise after GT6.

Silverstone Circuit is known as the home of British motor racing, and has an incredible legacy in the sport as a whole, being where the first World Championship Grand Prix for Formula 1 cars was held in 1950.
It has seen a lot of change since then, which is very well documented by YouTube content creator SouthPawRacer in the video linked in the tab below:
In modern times Silverstone hosts all manner of different championships with a wide variety of machinery, as well as club & historic events, and track days.
Aside from still being the host of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix, some other notable events include:
  • The 6 Hours of Silverstone, a round of the FIA World Endurance Championship returning in 2027.
  • The 4 Hours of Silverstone, a round of the European Le Mans Series.
  • The British Grand Prix for MotoGP bikes.
  • A round of the British Touring Car Championship held on the National Circuit.
  • A round of the British GT Championship.
  • Formerly a round of GT World Challenge Europe.
  • Formerly the Britcar 24 Hours, which also appeared in an episode of Top Gear.
  • The original home of GT Academy.
Silverstone only ever featured in the Gran Turismo franchise in GT6, and the model in-game even received FIA certification. It had all of the layouts shown in the first tab on this post, with exception of the Grand Prix Circuit variant that uses the National start/finish & pits, which I included here due to how often it is still used even by major championships.

The reason for Silverstone not making the jump over to the PS4-onwards era of games (like Brands Hatch and others did) is believed to be due to high licensing costs demanded by the circuit owner, the British Racing Drivers' Club. This has also been an issue for other racing games, though some do have the track included.
Hopefully Polyphony & the BRDC will eventually find a resolution that can see Silverstone make a return to the Gran Turismo franchise.
