Ok I love the online part of GT5 but i never seem to be able to compete due to purely car issues (i mean im not that bad a driver lol). Many cars are very similar in PP yet 3-5 seconds a lap differnt in performance...so how do you find a good fair race? Im just wondering how you all go about finding an online race. do you simple select a track you like? do you try to match the PP to your favourite car?

I love shuffle mods but its hardly ballanced. Any tips for findign good equal races?

Firstly use the srf off search option, that filters out most of the noobs. Then only join rooms with a description of of the race, for example 550pp road cars only. That way you know what's happening before you even join the lobby, its not fool proof but should help when searching for a good race. You could always start your own lobby too.

Build up you friend list with quality opponents - if you race fair and clean, most people will reciprocate a friend request. That way you can easily seek out the lobbies those people are in next time you want to race. Random seeking of good quality online lobbies is always tricky if you go in blind. As mrkevans above said, room description can sometimes indicate the type of quality you are going to get.

Alternatively, join a group like GBRC or CLART and guarantee yourself some close fair racing.

cheers :) does it take you all a while to find a car capable of winning races? I enter and max out my PP but the car always seems to be a bit slower. Have people just found the best car/track combos (aka in games like MW3 there tends to be a gun/perk combo which is superior to others on a particular map). Im not the best race but I like to think of myself as above average.

Firstly many hosts will set a pp at a certain track because they know exactly which car to use. I used to do this at monaco with the GSX until my friends caught on :D
It takes time to get the cars right, I would suggest hosting rooms with a few aids off and calling it 'clean only mixed racing'. When you race a few people who are clean drivers add them as friends. Very soon you will build up a lot of friends that you can race in your lounge. Make sure you kick the idiots out of your mixed racing asap and listen to the suggestions of the other drivers.
As well as this join a series online as they are the best chance you have of totally fair racing. I am starting up a very basic 90's touring car series in the new year as my other championship is full and you would be welcome to join that to try it out.
Good luck 👍

Course Select: Nurburging, Triangle x 4 , then choose amongst 2 or 3 rooms. If the room isn't there, I create one. I tend to go either Shuffle, 505 pp, or choose your car limited 660-700pp

PD really needs to allow for saving room configs, and start them up from Favorites.

Also, allow for course voting from favorite tracks. Too often I can't find the track within 30s

I like some tracks more than others, and among my favorite tracks some are unsuitable for a large grid of online racers that may have poor car control skills. (Nurb is maddeningly narrow and twisty when racing others online, just too many factors that will send you skidding off the track.) So first I look for a nice wide track such as Rome, Grand Valley, Fuji, Tokyo 246, Deep Forest, Trial Mountain, etc. Then I'll look at the name/description of the room and the specs that pop up when my cursor is pointed at the name. If it all suits my taste, I'll enter and immediately go to the regulations and see if the driving aids are turned off. Some insist on having them on or off and I'm no different. Hope this helps you find a fun room faster. :)

It's hard to find a good room sometimes.

First off, pick a room that clearly desigates the race you want, for example PP, or power/weight, one make etc. Be careful of choosing a room with a high number of players, such as up to 16. Lag increases with the amount of people in the room. And there is nothing more that I can't stand more than lag. Some hosts can do 16 no problem. I love rooms with no chat. better connections

See what the fast guys are running, watch their lines, ask questions.

If the room is full of bashers, lag city. Then find another room.

Stick with shuffle or dedicate your self to a particular PP and start learning to tune. I gave up on regular rooms because of the amount of time it takes to put together a good tune. People are living in they're favorite tuner car's now and racing only where they know they have a competitive advantage. Thats why you see such a large number of thinly populated Normal rooms. Was not so bad before gear ratios became fully custom. Now, with a lot of Dragging going on. The tuner rooms have turned into glorified drag races from corner to corner. A good tune is a must now. Can't get away with just moving the slider for gear ratios, you will get owned on the straights.

IMO this is the problem with PD's lobby system. It fosters an environment for insider racing and cliques.
If you don't like losing. Just tune away at 400-? PP w racing soft tires, because who else wants to drive car's that slow with that much grip etc. It's all about finding something that works, sharing it with a couple of friends, then waiting for some chump to stumble into your lobby so your team can own him.

Why can't PD just invest some time in real match-making controlled by the server's, not dudes that don't want to get beat so they master a setup and let the car do the work.
