Now you would think, of all things motorsport happening in the world, that PD would take full notice of this. Lets just focus on paragraph number two..

""Nissan has thrown a bit more downforce at the vehicle's front end, and the factory (rear) wing has been replaced as well, but the engine, transmission and suspension all remain unaltered from the factory Club Track edition. The competition vehicle will wear slightly wider tires, as well as safety cage and a larger fuel cell to accommodate the race regulations. The factory brakes have also been swapped out for more aggressive hardware.""

Ok, the ONLY thing from this list that gran turismo allows us to do to our cars as we prepare them for the racetrack is add a big honking rear wing. I would say "don't get me started" but too late!! I've already started!

.

*Front splitter -- even casual motorport fans should now understand that the simple addition of an aero splitter under the front bumper is one of the quickest, easiest ways to drop lap times significantly. C'mon.

*Tire Width -- this has been hammered by many astute GT5ers. More rubber please. (or less if you're into that like Chris Harris) ; )

*Safety Cage -- Not many tracks will allow you to just tromp around their facilities without a rollcage- a must for driver safety. This adds a little weight, but increases rigidity quite a bit, also. We have interiors now- wouldn't it be cool to see those bars running along the pillars? Maybe we could use those fantastic "paint chips" on it....

*Fuel Cell -- I understand safety in a simulation is irrelevant, but the ability to alter the weight and laps we can go without refueling would seem fairly important to anyone interested in realism, which I know a good number of us are..

*Racing Brakes -- OHH now, would ya look at that? The guys at Nissan think brake upgrades matter. Funny how no one at PD, including the contingent of them who have their noses in close proximity to the hind quarters of Nissan (*cough*.. KAZ) think the same way. Hmmm.. :sly:

So, in review, out of this short list of CRITICAL upgrades to a stock (kinda) vehicle by Nissan- Gran Turismo allows us virtual racers to do just one. - Big honking rear wing.

Driving Simulator, your time is up. We want to race now.

Complaint thread? Or Possible Improvements thread?

If we never offer such thoughts and opinions, what references will PD have to use when discussing where to take the franchise?

The complaints are much fewer and less boisterous here at GTPlanet than they are in the comments of various articles that have been written about GT5, trust me. Let me do my thing, and maybe worry more about doing your thing if you don't like it...

Another day, another complaint thread....

Please point out where OP is complaining because I sure don't see it. These are just suggestions.

These are good ideas but I doubt they'll be added in GT5. Hopefully GT6.

Tire Width seems like a fundamental change to how the entire game was built, so I don't see that changing.

Changing the size of the fuel cell should not be terribly difficult, so I wonder if that could be a fun upgrade to strategize with.

Thank you, Muo. I mean, did these guys even click the link? Or did their eyes immediately jump to my paragraphs, making them think to themselves "oh research and his silly wishlists..:yuck:.. I better waste my own time telling him how stupid he is.." lol

What I'm really trying to do here is point out the most BASIC upgrades that must be executed when taking a stock vehicle to compete on a racing circuit.

Is that not what Gran Turismo is about? I've been playing it for 15 years, but maybe I've been missing the point. Maybe the pinnacle of playing gran turismo is to see who can have the shiniest, prettiest photo of a car next to a train and a dog...

Another day, another complaint thread....

Another day, another useless post complaining because someone had the audacity, the gall, to talk about things that could make GT better. Most of these are even actually fairly simple ideas, though admittedly a couple of them are either useless to GT5 (brake upgrades) or would be a vast undertaking that would probably just break the game due to flaws with GT5's physics engine (tire size/width adjustments).

Fun times with hypocrisy.

Living in Mars is also "possible" ... but technically almost imposible today, your suggestion too.

Let me get this straight: Allowing you to add front downforce to cars with a front splitter is the GT5 equivalent to living on Mars? Even though most of the Premium cars already have parts that could be considered a front splitter, and all PD would have to do is add downforce numbers?

Similarly, adjusting the amount of fuel on board during a race, which would literally just be changing some string values in game, is the equivalent of establishing life on another planet?

How incompetent do you think PD are if that is the analogy you are making?

Driving Simulator, your time is up. We want to race now.

  • Front Splitter: no reason this shouldn't just plug into the game, visible or otherwise - along with flat-bottom (/ venturi? :dopey:) and rear diffuser, separate from a rear wing.
  • Tyre width: as mentioned, the tyre model is probably not up to the task. It's generally understood that most of the tyre parameters are car-specific. A new tyre model (which GT needs anyway) would allow for this to make a difference, but that's lots of research and testing.
  • Rollcage: I thought this was present, at least in the form of the rigidity upgrade. It would be nice if they separated that out to include the various braces and the full cage etc., and the changes were visible, as appropriate.
  • Fuel Cell: I agree that we should be able to adjust our starting fuel load, although that would mean having fuel usage for all races. Yet more reason for a two-tiered game: "sim" and "casual"; including the shades of grey in-between?
  • Brakes: This has been discussed to death. If GT modeled brake fade / temperatures and bite point and pedal feel, then yes, this would be necessary. Adding a simple temperature model, with fade characteristics for disc size and pad type, plus cooling options with the diffuser above and front bumper / side sill options (or separate from those things), might just be enough.

So, mostly simple, but one or two require hefty physics changes and / or new content, but always lots of balancing. I think Race Mods should be removed, and they should allow us to add the various parts as we see fit, e.g. widebody kits, rollcages etc. etc. Sort of like a separate menu for hardcore chassis and bodywork mods.

Additionally, I think there's a conflict between the "hardcore" sim-ness of what GT is clearly aspiring to be, as well as Kaz's mantra that "everyone" should be able to enjoy it. I think GT has dumbed down too much on its original tuning ideals, despite the physics and graphics progressively getting closer to reality. PD needs to find a way to cater for both angles satisfactorily before embarking on adding too much new ... stuff.

👍

Also, I wasn't complaining. If I was complaining, I would have written a paragraph about how much of a hypocrite I am.

Oh wait...

You mean I was the one who posted in the thread just to complain about the thread while contributing nothing else to it (not even a link to where it had been brought up before)? And I was the one who is trying to vindicate my first post using a post that was pretty much unrelated?

I never knew.

There should be a mod to convert any car into a GTR.

 I might have to put that in the GT5 Meme thread, giving credit to you of course. ;)

As for the OP, I would love to see those options included in the Gran Turismo series. I say Gran Turismo series because I don't think much more development will take place in regard to GT5. :(

I never knew.

Glad we agree, friend.
