Simple tuning guides?

Hey, this is my first post on gtplanet.

I've been playing GT4 for about three weeks or so. It is my second encounter with the GT series, as I used to play GT2, and I thought I was pretty awesome at it, but looking back at it, I'm beginning to have my suspicions. One thing I noticed, was I hardly ever tinkered around with my cars settings, except for the gear ratios.

The thing is, is it's just so damn daunting. So my question is, is there any stupid speak tuning guides out there?

I have no idea what half the stuff means, as I'm no hardcore car enthusiast. I mean, hey, don't get my wrong, I love cars, I just don't know what the stuff means. :nervous:

By the way, I'm 20% through the game, 5% more, then I'm off to the endurance races!

Thanks for any help
Mike.

dont trip about that, and like me, duck will give u a "formal" initiation post to gtplanet. =)

but back to ur question, a lot of people here are regular people like u. listening to the tuning jargon can be overwhelming, but all u need to do is ask what it means and ull get the hang of it. once u learn the language, its not hard. u may come across a tuning for a corvette or sumitn and it says df, that means downforce, stab means stabliziler, and etc etc. basically, if ur confused withe language, just copy the tuning part, print it out, and go to ur tv and match what u think it means. after a while ull get used to it.

btw, gl with the endurance races, for me, i didnt participate until 50% where i get jaguar. after i get jaguar and did the el capitan race, my race income would be from 5000 to 1 mil. gl, and unless u r rich as heck, i doubt ull have a car worthy to race in the endo races (get the prescarlo 03 for 4.5 mil). but thats just my opinion

damn duck, u always post before me =) and u always say the simplest crap too! look at the size of my post to urs =)
 Sometimes I wish I could easily type longer posts...
AND this is the second time I beat someone to the punch to answer a question...

My best car at the moment, hp and handling wise would probably be the Toyota GT-ONE Race Car '99 (black).

Would that keep it's own on the endurance races? It's around 1100hp. Actually, 1101hp.

I saved up and bought the four black cars on day 694? - 700.

Just finished the supercar festival, was reading on the forums and discovered you can race modified cars, as long as it seems to be a none race car, or concept. So after losing 1% of my win percentage, which is now at 92.6%, lol.

Another question, how often should I actually change my cars oil?

Thanks for the help duck and djaft3r.

Now to search for tuning guides on the TVR Speed 12, going to use that in the Pan Euro and British GT, would that cake the competition?

Also, whats a good car to use for the American Championship, and that Stars and Stripes, 'cause I got the Dodge Viper SRT10 '03 but doesn't seem to be working for me, although I haven't tinkered with any of the settings yet.

With all powerful FR cars, should I put a wing on it, and max the down force on the back tires?

Sorry, I'm just full of questions.

Thanks again for your help, lol.

Hi Bobshoy.

Unless you're B-Speccing them, the Endurance races don't necessarily require monumentally overpowered cars to win. Experiment a little and note the AI's lap times then test cars in different states of tune in Free-Run (well, 5cr is nearly free :D) to see what puts you in the right performance ball-park.

As to oil changes, there's no hard-and-fast rule yet on this as the oil-light is essentially useless in GT4. I change mine either after a few hundred miles or after every long-ish race series so I don't forget).

On no account use the Speed 12 for the British GT - it'd be massive overkill. Try a Cerbera with stock HP but with transmission and suspension upgrades. I've done this race series many times (including using all the TVR's :D) and it's great fun.

For the Star and Stripes I used a Z28 Camero (337HP) in a semi-race set-up. For the AllAmerican I used a Camero LM,which turned out to be too much car but was fun to drive nontheless.

As to the Wing question, I would not recommend putting a wing on anything you haven't either ramped the HP through the roof on or haven't fitted a roll-cage to. That's just my preference tho' as you will get a benefit from fitting a wing on nearly everything (set rear a little less than front (say 30/25) to promote high speed oversteer).

Never be afraid of asking questions by the way, just do a little research first so that you don't ask unnecessarily silly ones :D.
