Simulation Tire Race Car Challenge Series

Today we receive word that the Simulation Tire Challenge hosted at GT3Times last January will receive am ambitious follow up. The new series is reportedly intended as a preparation for both the arrival of the reportedly far more realistic Gran Turismo 4, and the upcoming international iLink event that is currently scheduled for 31st October.

We've talked with an insider from the hosting organisation and this source has revealed to us that the following features are likely to be included for this event series:

• a race car only event
• a sim tire only event
• weekly multi lap races, some or all with tyre wear
• cars announced two weeks in advance of the actual race (so that those who do not yet own the car will be allowed sufficient time to acquire and test it).
• each race winner and the top three drivers in the final standings will require verification at the end of the tournament (xps/sps file or verification by a trusted party)
• EDIT: paricipating drivers may team up with one other driver, dividing the races whichever way they like. Of course each driver may only be member of one participating team
• detailed race analysis of sector times as well as a short radio style race summary are likely to be provided
• providing there is enough interest, a league system will be used

Details are subject to change, and more details and information as to the racing schedule will follow, but we've agreed with the organisation that drivers can start signing up here now and they will check in a little before the series starts ...

More news has reached us on the series. As was already reported, the series will commence in August. Before that time however, a qualification race will be announced, which will determine in which class a driver will start.
We've also unconvered some further news regarding the class system; each class will have a car series associated with it, from which a driver may pick his or her car for the race. Each car from that group may only be used once, until all cars in the group have been used. The carlist for each class is said to be released shortly.

Turnout is pretty good so far, and the day is still young ... with four boards represented, this is going to be a pretty interesting challenge. Any more takers here? It's good practice for the nine boards challenge that is bound to come up again later this year, the french are already working on it.

It is rumored that the qualification race determining who starts in which class is a five lap race on Apricot Hill 2 with the stock Denso Sard Supra, in the GT World Championship in Simulation Mode Amateur level. The deadline for this submission is apparently 2 August, at which point the first race will be announced. A topic for discussion the qualification race will appear anon. Considering the detailed aspect of this information we consider the information to be very (99%) reliable.
