GTPlanet, hello. The thread title says it all, so let me get to the question to be answered:

"Should simulation tires be kept or ditched?"

Reply now. And go ahead and spread good cheer because this is the shortest intro I've ever made.

 That it is John, wasn't expecting it that short. Anyway, I say they should ditch them. Since the GT Series is suppose to be a "driving simulator" I'd like it to get closer to being realistic. I've never understood the reason why they came out with "simulation" in the first place.

I loved the sim tires. It's a great way of including hardcore simulation that is beyond the capabilities or interest of most drivers and I hope this time you can also use them in online multiplayer races, and not just single or 2 player.

I don't think I ever used Sim tyres, I used the stock ones until I bought racing rubber...

Keep 'em - nothing teaches throttle control like a tuned Speed 12 on sims...

Keep them, nodoubtfully.

Racing on SIM tyres is a true GT experience.

Sim tires all the way! Those are definitely not for casual gamers, and those sim tires are fun! It really brings out the true charactics of individual cars. If those can be use online, hosting sim tires races will definitely screen out all WCD cheater/players. I only wish GT4 will have sim tires from actual manufacturers where you can test/use different tires patterns and tread wear.

Keep em. 👍

isnt the "STREET" tires in gt4p the "sims"? i thought they just changed the named.

they do behave differently though. the "street" tires in gt4p feel more realistic than the "sims" in gt3. It was too easy to power over ON ANY RWD car.....even one with 95 hp:lol: In gt4p only a few rwd cars are able to power over with ease.

I have never used 'em so I wouldn't have an opinion on this.

The street tires are I think what a road car would come with stock in GT3. From there you upgrade to Sports or Race tires. That the street tires feel a little like sims is owing to GT4 being a lot more realistic than GT3. ;)

I agree with Arwin, and it makes me wonder how the sim tyres in GT4 will feel. :)

By the way Arwin, very nice article on IGN! Really well written!

I hate the simulation tires in gt3 mainly because they don't simulate ****. In real life, you would not slide around like you do in gt3. For drifting, I find sports or super slick racing tires to be the best since you get more of a sticky feel but still able to break the traction. For the best lap time, super soft racing tires all the way.

what exactly are Sim Tires tho?

Are they a closer representation to what 'road' tires are (the ones we find on everyday cars?) ... Because mostly everyone who race will buy specific Tires for that purpose...

I'm rather confused by 'the sim tires' ... ?!

so if arwin is right, shouldnt the SIM tires be the ones used to get the REAL life lap times instead of "street" tires? i find it very hard to try and match the tsukuba lap times with the times from Best Mo. and thats with "street" tires. I dont think matching those times will be possible with sim tires, they are too slippery.

I think there's a difference between simulation, stock (normal), and sport tires. Simulation tires are more slippery than stock tires. I don't really think they made them very simulated and that's not how tires are in real life. Stock tires (the ones that come with the car when you buy it) are the closest you'll get to real life as far as tires go for that particular car. Sport tires are improved performance, think z-rated tires or something; more grip than stock tires but less than slicks. Does that clear it up a bit?

We have tried this already, if we drive with anything BUT Street tires we obliterate the Best Motoring lap times. With Street tires, we usually go under them by max. 1 second. Check the times in the gt4 prologue times db here:

http://db.granturismo.de

There is an exception however - I would assume a car like the Nismo Fairlady Z Z-Tune would come with Sports tires rather than street tires.

Most of the drifters in the Gt3 Drift section use sims. I say keep them.

I'd like to keep them, and I wouldn't mind seeing a price cut on the super-softs come GT4.

i say they should just leave the street tires as the sim tires. the sims in gt3....didnt sim ****. maybe they tried to simulate.....racing on ice?

Now, the simulation tires are more like a simulation of how real racing tires are like. I'm pretty sure you'd have to set up the car to put them on. But answer me this.

Do sim tires last the longest, despite the fact they are basically ice-racing tires for the road?

Kazunori once explained that the tire wear pattern on Sims is a lot like the way real street tires wear, at least on Street cars. The tires are threaded, but as the tire wears the thread disappears and they become slicks for a while. That's why they seem to only get better when worn and are very driveable (comparatively) when red.
