...when searching for decals, it no longer keeps the 'searched for' content when you leave the search engine, and go back to editing the car. When you want to go back and access what you searched for by clicking 'content search', you have to type in the key words again, everytime.

You should do a search, then add all the ones you need to your collection to save you from doing a search every time.
