I had to, it's finally here. There is so many times when everyone doubted them and when everyone said not to worry, but I had faith. I had faith they would show up. Here's a thread to the lost and forgotten aspect of the game that everyone was upset about (besides 800 cockpits) and thought it was a waste of time and even had nothing to do with 'the real driving simulator'

hummmm.....

how do i say this?

Sorry to be a party pooper... but i still don't really care ;)

Cockpit view or livery editor would have been cooler :indiff:

Happy that Kaz made you happy though 👍

dont worry happycorey im there with ya. I am stoked skidmarks are in. Very happy. A driving game without skidmarks just looks odd, especially when spinning out, burnouts, drifting etc...

I wasn't expecting it to be added and I would of been fine if they weren't added cause I've come so used to it by now with the past GT games, but now that it's in, I'm very happy. I'm sure theres heaps of people who are happy that skidmarks are in too. I don't see why anyone would complain about them, they only add to the game. Yes some people would prefer to swap features like the poster above would rather have a livery editor than skidmarks. That's fair enough, but I wouldn't. Sure would be great to have both to satisfy everybody but it's not like livery editor or other features are not there because of skidmarks.

Drifting will be incredible, with the new skidmarks, smoke effects, new physics and overall visuals. :)

This is also why you agree with me about skidmarks. I bet you everyone who doesn't want, or didn't care for skidmarks also hates drifting, which is incredibly fun part of the game

Guilty as charged...

I want to precis that i do NOT hate drifting...
in fact i love it/like it alot!

I just dont know how to drift :( :( :(
I really do suck at it!

I wish i knew how to drift.
I am not against skidmarks at all....
The more features we have, the better and the more realistic it is...

I guess i am not as excited as you are, but "Yayyy!!!" Skidmarks are IN!!
Was unexpected after all these debate and drama...
Cool!

I'm really happy they're in tha game now. Hopefully they aren't like other games *coughForzacough* and are somewhat simulated. If you didn't know, it's actually quite hard to lay down some rubber without intentionally doing a burnout.

Maybe we can have comps?

👍

And even if a Livery editor was added, I would be happy aswell, just adds more to the game and I'd be happy for those who really wanted one. To me though I always preferred the nice clean look of GT, that stock car look straight out of the dealership.

I absolutely agree with that sentence!!!!!! 👍 Believe me... I do not want Livery Editor for the car design à la Fast and Furious... Some people like it, but i am not fond of Tuning at all! Very far from it...

I dislike Tuning the way you think thought that i dislike drifting... ;)

At least Skidmarks are harmless and can never be an EYE SORE! :p

I'm a drifter in the GT series, its great to see that they have added skidmarks in the game. Now to add something as first things to do in the game is burn some rubber & see a nice pile of rubber shavings. :sly:

Exactly. When I think of a Livery Editor, first thing comes to my head is all the "riced up" fast and furious style vinyls that absolutely make me sick. I can understand livery as in making a "Falken" drift car or some sort of racing livery. But even then I STILL prefer it to look stock. Seeing so many Japanese cars with Fast & Furious style vinyls and decals just doesn't seem to fit when I think Gran Turismo. A Japanese car like the Skyline doesn't need anything added to look good, maybe a set of Volk wheels, that's about it.

I think they were much needed in this serie, is something very easy to do yet so forgoten and to be honest it bothered me everytime i spin or drift without seeying them.

I think we have the same mindset of a simplistic and clean view of cars. I think a better way of putting it even would be 'JDM' haha

Just like rreverse lights, it was obvious they would ultimately put skid marks into the game. Really couldn't care less about cockpits though, save the effort there and put it into making more cars and tracks.

Skidmarks, cool, but will the tires explode? Seen this work pretty well in TOCA3(as good as TOCA3 gets after all) and Colin McRae Rally, really teaches you to not only keep your tires green, but to not take chances by getting them punctured.

With Shredding tires, driving on reds will be even more marbley, trying to get a P4 through Indianapolis and the Double Chicanes on reds would be the ultimate test of tire conservation. It would make great use of the sparks VFX.

Its about time!! Sim games need skid marks. 5 games later but yes this is great news for sure. Its a detail that should have been in this series since the beginning. Glad to see its finally here. :)
Now lets see some engine swaps and drivetrain swaps and a liver editor and this game will have everything.

I'd like to see a video showing a car laying down skidmarks on the track. All i've seen so far is ones that could have been built into the track surfaces textures.

I'm just curious, that's all :) Not a big feature, and certainly not one I was bothered about. But now it's in I want to see it :)

I did a little NASCAR donutting if you think that'd be suitable?

There are quite a few in the Gamescom thread.

Here is a recent one with a Corvette. Skid marks start at the end of the video around 1:37

I'm really surprised no Americans have taken my bait and defended their countries burnout abilities. Shame on you!

You have footage of this? Please post it. The only negatives I can see so far is the tyre smoke disappears too quickly. I want to fill my screen with it but judging from spamming smoke grenades in CoD and how it lags the lobby, smoke is a taxing bit of kit. Maybe PD have reached the limit of the PS3 for smoke.

Cool thanks guys 👍

If you've got the video? :)

How are the low speed physics anyway? Any progress made there do you think?

I just reviewed it - it's not terrific because of the contrast. Lots of vertical lines on the screen from the camera.

But there's a nice, big, fat, black spiral and lots of smoke. Not quite as much as you'd see during pre-staging, but it makes GT4's smoke look like GT1's.

Yes, but.

They're still a weak spot of the game. The donuts are better - you can turn a car round on throttle alone in one movement, but not quite on the spot - but not necessarily right just yet. The car was on race slicks however, which does change the dynamics involved. Ven and I both expressed a little concern at ice-grass - I don't think it was as bad as during the Time Trial demo, but there wasn't anything wrong with GT4's grass. Again, though, the cars we went off the track with most had slick tyres on, and slicks don't like grass... We were unable to replicate Prologue's falling-down-the-banking, but Indy's banking isn't as severe as Daytona's.

I think, overall, what GT1 did to revolutionise driving physics in the console platform game genre, GT5 might replicate in terms of advancement. Whether it's 100% faithful to reality remains to be seen - and I don't think that, if it isn't, we'll see any better from anything until GT6. Just give me a demo with an MX-5 and I'll tell you :D

I don't know how they work fully yet.

But these aren't the kind of skid marks I was hoping for, I'm more into skuffs due to oversteer and seeing a racing line of rubber form on the track.

Not that I'm disappointed but when I say I want sidmarks that's what I mean ;)

Spinning a car around 180 degrees largely depends on the car. In GT4 you could change how much lock the diff will uh ... lock up. Flick spinning a stock road car like a BMW M3 is really quite difficult.

Is there a NASCAR tech head around? Do they run full spool diffs or an LSD?

That's why I opted for a NASCAR Sprint spec car - "agricultural" tech and open diffs. Ideally I'd need a car I've actually driven to do a valid real vs. GT5 demo test though.

In America those are called DONUTS..........so here's a challenge, go get in one those badass force fed Aussie machines wind it up till you get to 3rd or 4th gear, can you keep it in a straight line????? You see we have an expression here it goes like this, "REAL MEN KEEP IT STRAIGHT". Your "burnouts" are cool, it's just any one can do that in any rear wheel drive car/truck. Where as an "American burnout" demonstrates the power required to get the wheels moving and keep the wheels going in the same spot. Last but not least HOW ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE THE WORLD SPIN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION WHILE SPINNING DONUTS????

You asked and I defended!

The video is crap - you can't see anything. Andreas might have better.

Ok.

Did any of you try and drift a car with N tires at Gamescom? Dieing to see a video of that. Most likely no one will even try :(

You obviously haven't heard of Australian powerskid competitions?

A taster:

Sorry to help steer the topic away from GT5 :(

I would love to see that Nascar footage, the best burnout footage we have seen so far is that ACR Viper spining as it exits the sand, or the C3 Corvette on Nurb.
