Well, I usually don't take care of my CD's that well, so they get scratched and such.
I was considering a Skip Doctor, which is a little tool that resurfaces the disk so it can be playable again.

You just spray this fancy stuff on the CD, And crank it a few times, and volia! It's brand new! Well, I just thought that It was pretty cool and it could save me some money.

While browsing on Amazon.com, I saw alot of mixed reviews about it...Some people said it does miracles, some people said it works like crap.

What I'm asking is that do any of you people own one of these? Have any bad expirences with them? Is it awesome? I just don't want to waste the money not knowing that it's a piece of crap.

Any opinions would be useful.

Thanks,
-Adam

Not really... I tried it and if ithe cd is too scratched or if they are deep scratches it won't work as good as you think, then there's buying the replacement wheel and spray. Hell, I saw a classmate use a buffer in the shop on a CD once, I never did get around to trying it but I'll let you know if it works. the cd was definitely polished after that though. I buffed my cell phone on it too. :D

Tooth paste works fine for scratches. Just make sure it doesn't have baking soda, or you're screwed.

it wasn't really that much of a waste, as it can repair most scratches. But it does have the flaw of not working from time to time if you don't do it correctly...

Get a CD Burner. When you get a new CD just copy it. Use the copy and when it quits working all you have to do is copy the original again.

The skip doctor really works wells on abrasions that can ruin a song. If you take the time you can get out the moderate sratches as well. Usally the deeper hairline scratches don't get picked up by my sterio but the wide shallow abrasions do. So just getting the abrasions out alone will eliminate almost all skips. I do own 2 of those things and they do a good job on removing all the scuff marks on my game cd's from being left face up on table tops and such. And the spray is just water. The skip doctor is just a wet sander and nothing more. On a 1-5 scale i rate it a 4.5 becuase it saved all my useless game cds that just froze all the time cause they were so beat up like FF7.

All it does is clean the disc. You can do that with other stuff you probably already have.

I've used on game CD's and music CD's that otherwise are not going to be salvaged and its always worked. Well worth every penny and more. Some of the games are simply not relacable and would have been total losses without it.

Solid Lifters
But you can do that with your hand and a piece of cloth. Just use a little "elbow grease."
Fine do it your way. Your just wasting your time:)

Its saved both PS1 and PC versions of FF7 that was origenally scratched beyond use.

It's not worth spending money on, just take care of your CD's. Buy a CD Pouch. I keep all my CD's in it.

It's the cheapest and best way. Atleast in my book of being cheap. :guilty:

I've seen cheap cdrs disintegrate a few days after using those things :dopey:

My friend bought Xenosaga a year ago and popped it into his v1 ps2 (v1 = first couple batches of the unit, plagued with laser issues). After a month or so, he saw tiny scratches and the disk stopped working. He Disk Doctored it and it became almost completely unreadable even on computers. Turned out that it was just a dirty laser - he killed a perfectly good game for nothing...

Personally, i just clean them off with a tissue. If they're really dirty, i'll dab a bit of rubbing alcohol onto the disk with a tissue. Works great for the most part.
For audio cds, i'll pop them into my pc and read at 10x or slower speeds. That allows the pc to make corrections where the scratches are and you can recreate an exact copy of the disk. Then just store the original in it's jewel case and never worry about it again.

If you do that, then the songs will still have the skips.

If you do that, then the songs will still have the skips.

When you buy a new CD (one that doesn't skip) make a copy of it. Use the copy until it starts to skip (the original is still in good condition). Make another copy of the original to replace to copy that skips. The new copy won't have skips, since it is from the original.

Oh, i understand. But you can just keep the files in the computer until you need a new CD, no?

Why don't you just avoid the problem and take care of your CDs? That's what I do.

I have a skip doctor, but I haven't used it in several years, because I'm not 13 years old anymore. I believe it saved a couple discs. And it certainly didn't wreck any discs. Just a little information for you though; the special liquid is just mineral water.

Lamboracer
I was gunna get 1 but my vice city is screwed and none of my other games but instead pay 25 for a DD ill buy a new VC for 18
You kno the latest releaste vice city is different from the 18 $ one, the missions are different and gameplay different to. Keep vice city just in case because now its a antique!

Undertaker, are you talking about the PS2 version being different ? If so in what way ?

I know the double pack GTA:VC is different to the original, but that is commen knowledge..right? :sly:

I have only ever had one scratched CD. And that was a PS1 demo, admitatedly I liked it alot, but it was just a demo. And it wasn't even me that scratched it, but my stupid sister.
I think I'll have to agree with the other people,'look after it and you won't need a CD repairer'

The double packs different for the X box , better graphics and more defined objects, characters with fingers and lighting. He said there are different missions and gameplay. Thats not common knowlage. especially if he's talking about the ps2 version.

yes i was talking about the double pack some of the things in the game are different and you pointed them out. I didn't know about the fingers tho:indiff:. But i don't know how you would consider that common knowledge. I think there also maybe some differences in the single disc game as well. Its quite common the creators will change aspects of the game after a while.

there would only have been bug fixes. Else they would have advertised the missions and such the way MGS: Substance did
