Who is getting Sky HD this may or who may just wait a bit longer. Here is a link to there site:

http://www.sky.com/hd

Oh and here is some details on Sky HD:

http://www.hdtvuk.tv/sky_hdtv/index.html

Plus on HDTV UK they said it would cost a sub of £9.99 a month to get Sky HDTV. But for a reason they removed it from there site, maybe because Sky told them too.

Oh and one more thing if anyone wants to know if the World Cup will be also recorded and aired in HD, well it is. That is the word from BBC.

Here in the states, it's called DirecTV and the package is called the High-definition package. It's $10 a month, and worth every penny.

It has Knight Rider in HD! Also, Hogan's Hero's and it looks fantastic since they were recorded on film, and not video tape. Plus, Caddyshack has been playing recently, and that movie looked amazing. There's also Hack, The Equalizer, Quantum Leap and my favorite, Bikini Destination. A show about hot chicks in bikinis going to exotic locations around the world, and doing activities in their bikinis. All of it in HD! 👍

Sky seems to be even bigger then that so called HD service your talking about, remember Sky News one the best news service award last year. Plus the Sky Sports brand seems bigger also then ESPN, I know you may not think that.

But look at the budget offered to Sky Sports from Sky mate.

I seriously need to relocate to the states... Damn...

Sky HD Sample Clips, running from my PC to my HDTV by DVI

- Rugby 1 HD Sample with a slight flash from my Dads spare digi cam.
- Rugby 1 HD Sample again with an even smaller slight flash from my Dads spare digi cam.

Ok I post more pics up later on buds. Shame my Dads spare digi cam cannot show that they look better then they do in the photos.

Just had my Sky HD installed, and well its fab. But I,m still trying to get my Sky HD to work with my Surround sound system.

And other then that wow, it lives up to the hype. Anyway here is a quick photo I took:

I get some better ones later on guys, maybe during the WC folks.

I've just bought the new Pioneer 43" HD TV.

I did enquire about HD with Sky but I understand you have to get the top package with Sky £40 and then it's another £10 on top of that, plus you have to buy the HD box which is about £300. It seems like a lot of money for about 10 channels that are actually shown in HD.

Agreed. Unless you're made of money, or really really enjoy your tv down to the last pixel, it's really not worth the cash. To be quite honest, after a few months it'll probably wear off.

Remember getting your first widescreen TV? Remember how awesome you thought it was for about a month, and then getting bored of it?

Give it a few years, and HD will be the norm. The chances are that it'll be a hell of a lot cheaper too. I think i'll be alright with my standard resolution for now...

EDIT

Oh and congrats on the uber tv :D

More Electronics/Home Theatre than Movies/TV, which has traditionally concentrated on the programming rather than the technology.

I've just got my Pioneer PDP-436XDE plasma wall-mounted, and connected to my Telewest TVDrive (HD + PVR, no setup cost, £10/month on top of standard bill).

Since my Mum and Dad have Sky, I can just have Multi room and Sky HD. With all the channels my Dad has including HD channels for £20 in total for the monthly amount, which I have to pay.

I've never seen the point in those multi room things, personally. They make you buy another box, often another sky dish, and if i'm not mistaken, another subscription. What the difference is from buying sky to begin with twice is, i'll never know...

Anyway, if you're used to sky, and they do offer some kind of discount, i suppose it's a little better. The box still isn't worth £300, though

Jon.

Discount. And you don't need two dishes - just two boxes.

I got my Sky+ with multiroom upgrade for £70 about a year ago, with £10 a month extra subscription. Compare this to buying Sky+ (£100 + £25 per month minimum) twice and you'll see that there's quite the reasonable difference.

SkyHD? Don't bother. If you want to see the World Cup in HD, go to the pub. At £300 for the box plus extra subs they can keep it. The smart money says that, probably due in part to commercial uptake for the World Cup, demand for SkyHD was initially very high - higher than supply, as it happens - and it will drop off sharply in August. Sky's best offers traditionally come in around 6 months post-launch and don't get significantly better. If you're paying more than £100 a box and £10 extra subs at the end of November, I'll be surprised.

I only have to pay £20 a month, but not all pubs have HD. So HD will be a must need for all homes in the next 2-5 years.

Until there are 50+ channels available I really can't see the point. By the time there are 50+ channels I'm hoping the price will have dropped considerably. I would also like to see Sky offer HD on the other packages aswell, not just the most expensive ones.

Agreed. I see absolutely no point on getting it now. In a year or two time, the price would have dropped considerably for the box/subscriptions fees and there will be many more channels available.

The money you could save could be put towards a PS3 for example... :D

Absolutley.

Or for the £300 I would be spending on a HD Box I can get myself an X Box 360 and play in HD. I have to admit though, I would have loved to have watched England win the world cup in HD.

HD is the biggest change in TV since colour.

No it's not. It's good, and it's noticeably better than standard definition, but it is not the revolution that everyone says it is. Perhaps in the US, where 576-line NTSC is the standard def standard, hi-def offers more of an improvement, but where you are on 625-line PAL, the 720p hi-def that broadcast signals are using does not offer as much improvement.

On the SkyHD price issue, I totally agree. It's being priced to take profit from early adopters, in exactly the same way that new games consoles are. It will be half the price in time for Christmas. It's also an area where Telewest offers a significant advantage, because Telewest retain ownership of the equipment. Purchase + Installation of my TVDrive was free, I just pay the £10/month uplift in subscription cost that is also being levied on Sky users.

I find it interesting that SkyHD is £10/month more than Sky+ (or have I misread that), because Telewest are charging £10/month for the PVR and HD upgrades combined. There is no standard-def Telewest PVR.

I watched the first half of the England - Portugal match on a 40" Sony plasma running the BBC HD feed - it was fantastic!

You could clearly see which player was which on the wide camera view. There was a similar Sony plasma set-up near to it and was running the standard definition feed - the difference was huge.

I think once Telewest cover my area i'll ditch the Sky+ with multi room that we have at the moment and get a similar set-up to Giles. I hate lining Murdoch's pockets.

HD is definetly great, altho I don't know how Sky is. From what I've read though, SkyHD should probably be even better than what I have (Shaw HD cable in canada). Trust me it's worth the money. I've had HD cable for almost 2 years now actually. You get sports like the Olympics and the World Cup, and the whole of NHL in HD (over there should be rugby in HD), I get movies in HD and 5.1 surround, and you get the big name shows like 24, Alias, Lost, etc. in HD and 5.1 surround too. Def worth it.

And as for the PAL comment. I'm pretty sure NTSC is 720x480i30 and PAL is 720x576i25. HD (in north america at least) is 1920x1080i for the most part, with only some channels like FOX being in 1280x720p. It's not just a couple more lines. If comparing 720p to PAL, it's 2.2 times the resolution (plus it's progressive). If comparing to 1080i, it's 5 times.

I think Sky has more money then Shaw HD, anyway Cracker what movies were you impressed by on Sky Movies 9 HD and 10 HD?

I've seen so many great movies on Sky HD of late, but I hope Sky Sports 2 HD uses better HD cameras for Championship games.

Shaun of the Dead will be on Sky Movies 9 HD later on, but I will be watching it at 1080i first. Anyway early on today I watched Roberts in 1080i HD, and it looked great.
