Skyline Question

What are the advantages of buying the R34 GTR over the R33 GTR? They both have 280 BHP, but the R34 has more weight. Does the R34 handle better? The R33 GTR is a steal on the used market at around 25K in the first week. I cannot play my game until Friday (@ college, left my PS2, driving home to pick it up Friday), and I was wondering if you could help me out.

Could some tell me the HP of an R33 GTR w/ full exhaust, Race Chip, and Stage 1 Turbo? I want to do thes mods at first, but I was wondering what my power would be...Thank You

well for starters power is about the same ... but the R34 has a 6spd getrag, Stiffer chassis , and is also less prone to understeering .(most used cars needto have the chassis restiffned in order for them to handle like the way they did when new about 50,000 credits to do... might want to take thatinto account as well) my advice would be to buy a EVO VIII .....

Drive them both and get their feel first. Do it stock. Many people consider the R33 a lessor Skyline than the R32 and R34, if not a failure. I do like the R33 for the styling, but the R34 is definitely faster stock.

With the autosave a test drive is pretty much out of the question. The 280 HP is nowhere near the actual figure for the cars. The R33 has 324 HP after an oil change. Plus there is the chassis stiffening to take into account as has been mentioned.

The most powerful stock Skyline is the Nissan Skyline GT-R V-spec II Nür (R34) ('02) which has 341 HP (I think) out of the showroom. An oil change will increase that by 5%. Not sure about the tuning.

All AWD skylines are about the same powerwise. The difference is chassis feel. The R32 is considered the best by many. The R33 a failure and the R34 ugly. The R34 was a refinement of the R33 to make the car stiffer, handle better and aerodynamically slicker.

Of the three I adore the R34. I don't think much of the R33 and will only drive a R32 if i am forced...though it is a decent drive.

The R32 is probably the easiest to drive, though the R34 is faster once you figure it out.

The Skyline GT-R V-spec II Nür (R34) ('02) is one of my top 5 cars in the game. Perfect stock, even better with suspension and engine (clutch, flywheel, prop shaft) upgrades. Hold off throwing more power into it until you get used to it.

So an R32 on the used market would be a good beginner car? Thanks everyone for the help.

Right now, I am going to get the R32 and drop about 25K in mods on it....or I might do all of my licenses and pick up an '01 EVO RS on the used market for under 20K. Decisions...Decisions.

In the handling department, an EVO RS would kill an R32, right?

For some reasons all the Lancers in GT4 seem to have extremely good brakes. I prefer the Lancer anyway. You can get a used EVO IV for less than 10,500 on some weeks, the EVO VI RS TME being 12,990 I think.

How do these people believe its a failure? It is better than the R32 and holds up well to the R34. People unfairly judge it because gained size and it lost some of the sharp lines of the R32, the R34 still has the size but gained back the sharp lines so everybody loves it.

so which skyline is better?

r34 m spec nur? or r34 v spec II nur?

i bought the m spec thinking its better because of the price. somebody prove me wrong :dopey:

So the R33 is considerably worse in GT4? I would like to know from some one that has driven R32 vs. R33 or R33 vs. R34 or all three compared within the "GT4 World".

Basically the same car. The M-spec Nur was the last version of the R34 which was more of a luxury model. It had a fancier interior and some other cosmetic changes (increased the weight) but essentially was the same car as the v-spec mechanically.

In GT4 they drive aboutt he same. The m-spec is slightly heavier and the gear box does seem different (longer). The V-spec is the faster of the two but only by a few 10ths on a short circuit.

For R34 info click here. Its all Japanese, but you can click around and find technical info and/or watch videos....

Ok, maybe failure is too harsh of a word. Many people considered it a step backwards in performance from the R32. The R33 is still a skyline but I don't know anyone who given the choice between an R32, R33 or R34 would go for the R33. Depending on your taste the R32 or R34 are the killers, while the R33 is rarely ever discussed.

Dimension
i personally perfer the r33 looks wise it seems much smoother than the r32 which is too angular and the r34 which just seems too big

It is all taste I suppose. I for one prefer the R34 for it's brutish boxey crude look. The car is so ugly it is beautiful! Sorta like an Imprezza. That is what the skyline is. Big, Loud, Heavy and fast.

Performancewise give me a R34 any day!

R33 is my favourite Skyline - they're all nice, but the R32 doesn't look a lot different from the most mundane family sedan, and the R34 isn't what I'd call pretty.
The R33 however, has classic GT proportions and has the most muscular looks of the trio.

About handling in real life, the R33 did beat the R34 and R34 V-Spec on the 'ring when Dirk Schoysmann did extensive track testing to them all. So, there shouldn't be a reason why the R33 would be inferior to the R34. The R34 should, however, have less understeer, as this was something they focused heavily on while developing the car, AND they admitted at Nissan, that they had made the car understeer less even though it made it slightly slower on test tracks (!)

Just my thoughts..

Nice tech insight TurboJ! greatly appreciated. I must admit i too prefer the looks of the R33, but the R34 just seems the car everyone raves about for performance.

How are the Skylines?

I'm about to start the Japanese race series, after reading some of what you guys have to say about them I want to give them a try. Are tehy good enough to keep up or pass! Or should I stick to the NSX concept I won? I do have 499,377 to blow if needed on this thing!

Not trying to hijack the thread, just thought why were on the subject ask a little about it. Thanks!!!

Edit:
Which one should I choose first (NEW).

You can access the garage without the memory card.
Nope you can't, you need the memory card in to get into and out of cars, you need it in to do anything in the garage.

I love how someone said I'd only drive a R32 if I was forced to, be serious man.
As for the R32-33-34 debate...I'd also like to hear from someone who has some wheeltime behind the three, because I don't think the 33 is as bad as EVERYONE seems to be making it out to be. Nissan isn't as money hungry of a company to make a "filler" car unlike some OTHER(not neccesarily car)companies out there. There has to be a distinct advantage between the 32 and 33 or else it wouldn't have been produced....Besides it's sexy looks of course.

Mechanically identical ... except ... the M-spec has "Ripple-control" dampers :)

Driven all three. Own one. R32.

On the road they are a close match, certainly the BNR32 feels more like a racer for the road, very sharp feeling - sometimes nervous, depending upon what suspension it has (Bilstein is usually WAY too stiff on a Skyline). The BNR32 is my choice of the three but the others have merits too...

The BCNR33 is probably the "nicest" of the three modern GT-R's to drive - certainly on UK roads, its the smoothest of the three, keeps the decent gearbox (more in a moment) and feels solid and purposeful - furthermore the Non-V BCNR33 rarely pulls any punches on you in the handling departement as it has a traditional plate-differential rather than the V-Specs Active-LSD...

This leaves the BNR34, rather like driving a fast truck, great modern interior, crisper engine note (longer duration on standard cams in the BNR34) and very sharp handling. The BNR34 does feel its weight though, and can be ungainly - the V models are way too stiff. The biggest letdown for me with the BNR34 is Getrags finest tractor gearbox, clunky engagement, displeasing feel and questionable long term lastability from the syncro's - that said - it is VERY strong.

Thats my opinion anyway, I am lucky enough to drive all three on a regular basis - so I count my blessings :)
