OK, everything im about to say is 100% true and i would bet my gtplanet account on it.

Ok, so i was riding my bike just 10 minutes ago on a local busy road and i hear a familiar sound. I look over my shoulder in curisocity and what do i see, A dark red/maroon Nissan Skyline R-33 body style from between '95-'98. I dont think it was a GT-R because it didnt have a large wing it was kind of small. It was a two door and it seemed to be slightly modified. I tried to chase it on my bike with cell phone in hand too take a picture. Needless to say i couldnt catch it. I came really close at a stop light but could get a shot at it baceause as i go there the light turned green.

You Guys, I really saw this and if you guys can help me confirm this by helping me find a import document showing this car was here i would really appreateate it. I tryed to chase thi thing for over a mile so i coiuld show you a picture, because a REAL skyline is a rare occournace in New Jersey. Before this day i never thought they were evern around here. I really want you guys to believe me and dont flame me because this really happend.

P.S. The first thing I thought when I saw it was "Crap, I need to tell the GTPlanet dudes!!!"

They're common in Jersey.

I've seen EIGHT.

Acosta Motorsports on Midland Ave in Elmwood Park works on a Red one.

Stigma Auto's got a black one.

There's a Silver one somewhere around.

I've seen another Silver one at Tobayfest on LI 2 years ago.

I've seen yet another Silver one by Englishtown, covered in Vinyls.

There's a shop in Wallington that imports them.

Every single one a GT-R

Seriously, they're all over the god damn place.

I know about the pictures. I am really mad right now. But I really did try to take a pictre, like I said I tried to catch up to it but i couldnt becuase i was on my bike and it was driving. I did have my phone out trying to capture a picture of it but i couldnt. If you dont believe me I understand why.

I am sorry i didnt post it in the right forum. I was kind of in exited frenzy.:dopey:

Oh, so I guess there more common then I thought:drool: . I saw this one on St. George's Avenue. In Linden New Jersey.

Skylines were a rare sight over here maybe 4 or 5 years ago. Now I see them on a regular basis and I even know an owner. There's also a guy running around with an R34 GTR.

Plus, at the price they go by over here (10 grand for something reasonable) they aren't close to the smartest buy. People have been catching on and the market for them has already started to fade, even if you only saw your first one today.

The laws must be different in Quebec as they still don't qualify for importation here in Ontario. As far as I know, the R32 is the only model allowed into the country/province under our current laws.

If it's the one I'm thinking, the guy paid 60 000$, on top of the 60k it cost him for the car, to have it specially registered and inspected, mostly for show/racing purposes. And it's not even a real GT-R, but a GTS-whatever that has been "converted" into a GT-R, with an RB26 and the bodywork, but no 4wd system.

It's not a joke, they're now as common at shows as Hondas.

I've seen a couple around here, but I can recall one of them had NJ plates though.

Ciao!

If I started a thread everytime that I saw a Skyline, or even an R33 for that matter, I would have been banned from this site a couple of years ago.

You can buy Skylines for $500 or less here, just they're crappy condition C210, R30 or R31's. R32's you can get for a few grand in non turbo iffy condition (Like much of the beater ones I see in NZ).

Does NZ have much pre R32 Skylines?

I don't think I've seen one in Oregon........ then again, I don't get out much. :p

Considering how huge imports are here(not the cars themselves, the trend), it is kind of strange. I think I remember seeing a Silvia coupe(w/trunk) before, many years ago. It was that S13 or whatever that we didn't get here in the States, but as you guys know, there are a lot of modified replica things around, these days.

The one I know of was registered as an R32 GT-R by taking advantage of the uneducated registration process of importing a foreign car, especially Skylines with their confusing naming. It was fully street registered as a 15 year-old car and made various public appearances. The owner did however get caught, but still managed to keep the car here without getting it impounded. When I saw it, it looked like this:

How solid are you sources on this 60,000$ sticker price and surcharge? There are various Montreal-based import companies that can probably find an R34 for cheaper than 60 grand. The 60,000$ "registration fee" is what seems the most doubtful to me though. You can get the grimiest, most unsafe, dirty car registered for street use for less than 500$ if you know the right people, as long as your car can pass a brake test. Knowing these people isn't so hard either.

For the rest of you, the discussion was about Skylines in North America, where they were never legally allowed to be imported at all. Now there are various laws you can manipulate to get the car in and drive it around, but things aren't close to common as in NZ or Australia. It's still very hard to find something reasonable for less than 10K$ (usually a so-so non-GT-R R32). But where me and Fred live, it is legal to import any car over 15 years old, so R32s have gotten really common lately, at shows and on the street. If there are various importers in this city alone bringing in 15-20 cars per year, and a city-wide scene so close as Montreal, the market's gotten rather saturated.

That's the one I'm talking about. It was for sale on Ebay recently (not sure if it's been sold or not), that's where the 60k claim came from, as it was mentionned in the auction. It was something like, 60 thousands for the registration, legalisation and customisation, from a GTS-M or whatever it was (GT-M? GT-T?) into a "GT-R".

I only see R32 styled Skylines around here. Maybe we have the same laws as Ontario, prohibiting import of any R33 or R34 bodied Skylines.

WE have absolutely, positively no Skylines in Central Il. I've seen an Alfasud, though...and a 155.

Canada has a 15 year rule. If a car is 15 years old or more, you can have it imported here. But in order to have it legalised, it will need to be inspected. You'll have to wait until 2009 for any R33's to be found here legally, under this system.

I also heard that they were seriously considering getting rid of the 15 year rule and applying the same rules as the United States regarding importing cars.

Meh, I've only seen one Skyline (not exactly sure if it was a bona-fide GT-R, though) on the road. More precisely, it was waiting at the end of the service drive at my dealership. It was an R33, and it idled for about 5 minutes, while about a dozen or so of us gravitated slowly towards it, not sure if it was the real thing or not. But we all whispered..."Is that what I think it is?"

It was some two-tone blue and silver, with small Tommy Kaira badges on the sides to boot. Otherwise, it looked deceptively simple and unadorned. I bet that most of the examples in this area, as the rest of the hundred or so in America are garage queens, or rarely-driven examples.

Unlike the rest of the world, pre-2003 Skylines are an extremely rare sight in America and Canada. For example, I've seen three different Ferrari Enzos. It's still rare.
