Pictures of the SLR. It will have more power, weigh less and have extra aero styling. There is also romoured to be a drop top version of the SLR in the making. The SLR sport will make around 650hp instead of 626.

Mercedes are also planning on building AMG "track series" cars that will be light powerful, and go like stink to steal more BMW M customers.

Mercedes are also making a new engine codenamed The "M157" which will be good for 707bhp and 734lb-ft. Oh and its a V8.

Heres a pic of what the first track series model, the SLK could look like.

i want one! i take it the new V8 will probably be put im the new top mercedes amg's? also, i wonder if they will put the new V8 in the SLR! it would rip your face of under acceleration!

So, they are finally going to make it the actual fastest Mercedes? Too bad it's still ugly.
Also, I can picture the SLK with the "old" SLR motor...

I hope "track series" means we FINALLY get an optional stick in the SLK55... Hell, they could atleast do a double-clutch system, thats close enough...

Any word on what it'll weigh? Are we finally going to get to see the SLR that Gordon Murray designed, before Mercedes loaded another half-ton of pork onto it? :D

Phoarrrrhhh.. Me likey !.. It looks absolutely gorgeous !...

Note to BMW, get rid of Bangle before he destroys you !...

Halli-flipping-lula. Took their time to catch on didn't they?

Guys, this is Mercedes.

It may have track tires, a rollcage and whatnot, but it'll probably still have satnav and heated, massaging leather seats for those stressful races.

(Kidding by the way. No flaming, thanks.)

You forgot the Air conditioning and cruise control for those extra long straights

Guys I remember seeing a while ago a photo of a baby McLaren Merc, or a Baby SLR. I see if i can get the photo scaned later.

Yeah I know what your talking about. I hope they build it. They will need to scrap the slr first though as they wont allow it to upstage the nflagship car. Just how mercedes deliberately down tuned the SLK and will down tune the next C63, if it even gets that engine.

I think it be a while before Merc and McLaren drop the SLR.

Power was never an issue in the first place with the SLR, what they're trying to do is make an SLR that's more track focused than Grand Tourer focused, you don't need more power for this, you need less weight and a different car setup.

Am I one of the few who actually think the SLR McLaren was one of the most beautiful supercars of the modern era? This SLR looks much less flamboyant and much less exotic looking. I wanted to say it looks plain, but I think it is a beast of a car even in this form. For what it has under the hood and in its performance and looks, this Texan is going to give this thing about 87% approval out of 100.

You'd feel a bit hard done by if you bought the "standard" SLR.

Mercedes has already upstaged the SLR thrice: SL and CL 65 AMG and CLK-DTM. They were all nearly a fast (in the DTM's case, faster) and cost a thrid as much (or, in the DTM's case, about the same).

Not really, if you bought the stard car I'd presume you would have wanted the in cabin luxuries the car has, things that this AMG verison will more than likely do away with to help save weight.

It's not the same case as the improved Bugatti Veyron. This SLR is aimed at a completely different market. Well, kinda.

CLK-DTM > Any version of an SLR

Am *I* the only one that thinks the SLR is long, fat, and not that pretty?

Long yes, but aren't alot of supercars?
Fat, do you mean wide? Becuase there are alot wider super cars out there.
Ugly? Yeah I did originally, but it's grown on me.

When I say long I'm more or less thinking of the bonnet. The Viper has the same problem-it's way too long from nose to cabin and to me it doesn't look right. But, that's the price you pay for being an FR supercar (the SLR not Viper--the viper is not a supercar). And by fat I mean just look at the ass on that thing...it's got a seriously obese looking ass. It's not ugly perse but more not pretty. I still prefer the CL55 AMG model--and with some tuning can be just as fast or faster. I'm not saying the SLR is worthless--I just prefer other Mercs. The video posted in the Video forum of the SLK with the SLR motor is one sweet ride.

*edit*
I would like to see a track version--I think it would be a great track car if it went on a diet. :sly:

this is gonna be a battle between the AMG and the M5
they must be in equal classes
but damn that thing will fly

If I enjoyed wearing silk bikini underwear, I may choose to buy an SLR over most supercars... But because I choose cotton boxer briefs, I think I would end of sticking with a Z06 or 599GTB.

The SLR isnt bad, in fact it is a great car, but most hard-core racing fans are going to want a vehicle that is a bit more involving...

What would you drive if you wore a leather thong?

All valid points. Though some of them I have the complete opposite opinion on. But yeah, there's long bonnets on FR cars, but then there's really long bonnets on FR cars.

I've sat in one, yes it is smaller that it looks in pictures, it's a very fine looking car when you see one.
