The Sterling Moss is the last version of the Mercedes-Benz SLR and signifies the end of the partnership to build road cars between McLaren and Mercedes. The Stirling Moss features carbon fiber bodywork over the standard SLR chassis and the drivetrain from the SLR 722 Edition, with performance figures including a top speed of 217 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds. Only 75 will be built and cost an even $1,000,000

And what a way to bow out for the SLR...

Hate the back though.

Looks better than the regular SLR, but still ugly as sin. At least it's not a complete travesty like I thought it'd be when I opened the thread. I fully expected it to be a normal SLR with different wheels and a few Stirling Moss stickers.

I think it is truly amazing style, not afraid to be different. I guess the real thing looks even better. If money was truly no concern that would be in my garage. Are there other colors availabe that would be great in black.

I've always thought it looked awkward, even in the spy shots during the conceptual test car stage. So i cant say I am a big fan of this

Theres nothing about this car that truly grabs my attention (aside from the rare factor). Give me a "normal" 722 any day. At least in an SLR, i wont have to drive around with a helmet on, or suffer the same fate as Jeremy Clarkson in an ariel atom :scared:

Oh and it seems like they just slapped on Sterling Moss as an afterthought or some sort of marketing gimmick. Dont see how the car is related to Sir Stirling Moss in any way. They could have named it the SLR Ron Dennis for i care

Practical? No. Comfortable? Not at any speed. Priced right? I don't think so...

Want? YES.

Absolutely jaw-dropping beauty there. For the price, performance, number of puppies required to cover the seats... I'll take it long, long before a Veyron or anything else of that performance caliber.

All it needs is a double-bubble cockpit and you have one of those ridiculous Hotwheels rocket car things from a few years ago. With Hyundai Sonata headlights for the taillights.

Fix the proportions of the nose, and that front end and I think this thing would be a beauty though.

That would be a pain to drive, any time you put your foot down for more than a second you risk your face being torn off.

No??

It needs to look more like this:

Or this: (Solves face-being-blown-off problem)

And it needs a Straight 8 to complete the experience. The engine bay's long enough.

Its great that they have captured the look of the original better than the SLR did. I love the square back lights and the side profile. Excellent job Mercedes 👍

That is even more hiddeous than the 'normal' SLR... made for collectors, not car enthusiasts... and I am really disappointed that someone wiht Sir Sterlings reputation would allow his name to be linked to such a monstrosity.

Anyone know the drag coefficient on this thing? I bet it can coast at 70. (Unless David Coulthard's driving one).

What's with the super lame and small wheel design? Come on, now. Does Mercedes have a requirement saying they have to screw up something about everything? Why couldn't they make it something I can't see? And did they give it one of their poser manual-look-alike automatic shifters?

Fantastic! I really like this car. Just probably not recommended if you're trying to protect your head from bugs or pigeons that have diahrrea while driving by. Make it a hardtop coupe, and I'll buy two (even in this economic climate). Still, nothing beats a classic car including this one like in Post #13.

They do try really hard to look like original SLR. I agree the rims are too small and too AMG-ish. Cut-cost maybe? I think the stretch are better somewhat. I still think it is one awesome mercedes.

Oh really? And how do you know he dislikes it? Just because you hate it, does not mean Sir Stirling does.

I personally like it. It really does look like a modern version of those wonderful old racing Mercs from the fifties.

Gets a big 👍 from me!

I think they should have gone for a more multispoke arrangement on the alloys. Just to make it slightly more reminicent of the wire wheels on the original. Also the wheels do look slightly small but if you were paying that sort of money im sure you could also afford to fork out for bigger ones! :sly:

They also need to offer it as a coupe (or with an attachable hard top)because having no windscreen although true to the original is slightly stupid! Or you would have to wear googles and a scarf!

Robin.

I don't know about this. The front airdams look too Lamborghini-esque and the shape of the front end and the headlights are too Ferrari 599 ish. Its an interesting design though. But I would never pay 1,000,000 dollars for it. I think it at least needs a windshield and a roof.

So, like an Ariel Atom, then? only even more distorting?

Mercedes has never been desperate for sales with any of the SLs, but that hasn't stop AMG from going all "silly Englishmen, this is how you should do it" in thr ridiculous (yet fun to watch) one-upmanship that has happened so far.

"For that money, I want a windshield" appears to be a common theme here. Guys, you're missing the point of this car! It's not supposed to be practical, it's supposed to be a homage to the old SLRs of yore, driven by the likes of Sir Moss to countless victories. It's supposed to be like this. A hard-top version, a windshield or even a helmet are wrong on this car - this one needs to be driven with a leather cap and some goggles.

I never said he disliked it. My point was that the SLR Moss drove was a purpose built racing car, and both it and Moss have a reputation, style and class unbemished by time. I'm disappointed that he would allow his name to be associated with something thought up by the marketing department at Mercedes to make a few quid out of dumb collectors. It's even more over-priced and ugly than the standard version.

The wheels dont suit the car and it could do with a small windshield and simpler bodywork it looks too busy. Apart from that it should look stunning in real lfe.

Perhaps he likes having one of the wildest, most radical road-going Mercs in recent history named after himself? The design is radical, but not everyone hates it - I, for example, love it, though there's space to improve. At the same time, it's a completely-open Mercedes with a thumping supercharged V8 - what's so terrible about it?
