Small idea...

I was thinking how simple race begins in GT 4... Your car just drives on auto-pilot for few seconds and then you take over... Thats ok for 2-10 laps races but for endurance events it would be a lot more better if there's some kind of entrance scene... Think about it... 24h of Le Mans is starting and there are planes going over you, helicopters too... Flares are fired in stands, commentator is talking, camera is pointed on those sexy ladys on he grid, pit area is crowded, driver are under umbrella's because of hard sun ecc. ecc.

I hope you got my iagination... i know it is too late probably for this but just wanted to hear you thoughts!

Cheers!

The complete lack of any race atmosphere and the lack of feeling you actually are part of a racing team competing in some sort of championship, is one of my biggest problems with Forza 3. It feels so empty and lifeless.

Allthough your example is a bit extreme, I like your idea. I would also like to see training sessions, qualifying and warmup laps (with the option to skip these, if you don't want).

no thanks

I get what you mean but in the moments before a race start the grid has to be clear. I think the pit crew animation as seen in the tokyo circuit will add a lot during races. I also wouldn't be against helicopters in the sky (seen in many racing games but not GT so far) and animated TV cranes or camera booms.

Think it will be nice and impressive first time, but it will become tiresome very quickly after you're being forced to watch the same show again and again.
May not be such a chore when it is only used on a full real time 24 hours race as a way to prepare and add some significance but these cut-scenes are often mainly used to camouflage loading times and the less the better.

Like the E3 2009 trailer:)

GT4 Sarthe 24 hours had aircraft over fly with coloured smoke, if GT5 doesn't have some sort of thing like this for atleast the 'lemans' enduro I would be very suprised.

Sounds like a good idea to me ... why not have a cool diversion from an otherwise devoid loading screen ?

As bad as EA's Nascar series has traditionaly been, they did have the best pre-race graphics I believe. The military "fly-by" just prior to the race was awesome. I used to love to turn up the speakers and rattle the plates in my kitchen cupboards :)

I wouldn't want too much flashy stuff that would end up getting skipped 99% of the time, because for me GT should be all about the cars and the tracks they race on. However, something to give the game more of a feeling that you were at a race meeting would be nice - just something to lift it from being a sterile race.

........just something to lift it from being a sterile race.

I don't know what or why I have this feeling but I feel that is something PD have somehow addressed in GT5. Maybe the feeling of a more dynamic environment, chewed up verges, the stacks of tyres that bounce down the track when hit, the movable barriers and the damage to the cars themselves all takes away some of that sterility.

Well, i meant less loading time, if it is camouflaged by a nice show which distracted you from waiting and added some atmosphere, then yes, why not.

Do you guys remember the race starts in GT2? Especially the GT-all stars championship? (Or the championship that counted as you "finshing the game" if beaten). That particular championship had different race start music. That music, the combination of hearing the crowd cheering (to me this is huge) plus the standing-start really got me going back then. GT2 was an amazing game.

+1 to a more adequate racing atmosphere for serious racing games.

👍 We're seeing more and more of this, thankfully. People are actually starting to think. It probably means that loading times are, in fact, increased, but at least you've got something pretty to watch - even better if it's subtly different each time...

we all would like to see something special in the game and that is great... thats how this game will be perfect... Kaz and guys will check every proposition and suggestion and ultimatly they will choose what is best for the game...

BTW i would love to see some entry scenes atleast before 24h races. It would inspire me more. And it would be ok that you can interrupt those scenes. (for those who don't like it)
If you played F1 2006 on ps2 then you know what i mean...In that game you wouldn't start the race right away. You would join in on the grid 5 minutes before the start sequence. Then there would be drivers line-up, qualification time, ecc. Ofcourse you could press start button and skip all that...

I'm satisfied with Gt5 as it is but im also doing my best to improve it as player and great lover of cars and games.

Did you really play GT4 ? :p

You have good ideas, but GT4 wasn't as simple as you claim. There were planes at the start of the 24h Le Mans race, with smoke in the French flag colors.

edit: We also saw planes in the GT5 E3 teaser. And in GT5 Prologue, pre-race, there are dozens of people walking around, pit crew working on the car, lots of ambient noise, etc. So they already have that covered as well.

That is correct. From Gt4 and Gt5 is big space in those "parts" of the game...
But there should be horn like those that you can hear on F1 races

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVouw0HXQD8

here you can hear those horns...

Of course, this game is not about stands... it is about cars
Also it would be cool to hear race commentator that can be heard on speakers! And if you are in garage, we should hear those tyre guns... :)
I could go on like this for ages... Too bad that these are just wishes...

It is easy for them to skip that problem just by pressing start button...

👍

Yeah I think the racing game industry needs something like this, it can be boring to watch racing games, these sort of ideas might just bring a bit more flare into the game.

But then if you over do this, it might seem like an RPG, which the majority of hardcore racers don't want.

How bout helicopters flying overhead throughout the enduro races, filming the action going on below. Imagine the motivation you'd get when you see the chopper above to pull a few stunts :D

how about girls standing at the line, saying "ready, set, go" to start the race? Huh, huh?

Here's an idea: you know how in Forza 3, before you select "Start Race", the camrea pans around an empty track and stuff? What if it did something like that in GT5, where the camera goes around the starting line with people doing whatever they do in the starting line, goes into the pits to show what's going on there, and do a view of the crowd?

Actually, isn't that what they do in GT5 P?

yeah that's true... that is in GT 5 prologue but many would like to see more... that garage that you look before start of the race is superb new thing... but the camera should go through pit, race grid, stands ecc. It should be like a tv transmission...
