My camera is a few years old and the only type of card it uses is the almost forgotten SmartMedia card. My Vaio came with an internal 8-in-1 reader that takes all the main cards, but not SmartMedia.

I was curious if someone knew of an adaptor so that it can be read in one of the other slots. I don't want to buy a reader just to use up another USB port. I have seen an adaptor for the floppy drive but it reads just as slow as downloading direct from the camera.

Somethings I have seen are adaptors for Compact Flash and XD as well as something that converts it into a USB flash drive, but I don't recognize the brands or the online stores selling them. I'm just curious if anyone has any experience with anything that they could recommend.

Thanks

Either way, a good internal card reader won't cost you more than $20-30. The USB adapters will be damn near impossible to find anyways. Especially since the reputable manufacturers would much rather make a 250019283 in 1 reader.

edited stuff out.

The adaptors are out there.

SmartMedia-CF adaptor
SmartMedia - XD adaptor
SmartMedia Flash drive converter They have one of these for about six or seven types of cards.

I just don't know the brands or stores. As for switching out my internal reader, I guess I am being lazy about that. It isn't as if I haven't changed hardware before. I have added hardware to every past PC I have had. I have only had this one a couple of months and haven't been inside it yet. Like I said, I'm just being lazy now.

I can do an external reader for about $10 from Amazon but I was looking for another option to use what I had.
