Smokey Mountain's first appearance was in Gran Turismo 2 with both South/North layouts. The two rally circuits are very similar to each other, but do not share any common track sections. In Gran Turismo 3, the Southern layout got disappeared and only the Northern layout made it's second appearance. However, in GT3, the Southern layout suffered track design changes and was renamed to Swiss Alps. Look at the pictures below to understand what I mean:

In GT3, the start/finish area of Smokey Mountain North is on tarmac, whereas in GT2, the whole circuit is run on dirt.

Unfortunately, after it's appearance in GT2/GT3, the Smokey Mountain Circuit never returned to the series... :indiff:

Overall, it's a relatively high-speed rally circuit which requires little technique. In the high speed sections, you can go as fast as 220 km/h in a WRC car (bear in mind that it could be faster if you drive a Pikes Peak car, which are extremely powerful ;)).

Since there's a big lack of rally circuits in GT6, PD can exploit the data from the previous GT games and bring back some great and nostalgic rally tracks.

Credits to the "Gran Turismo Wiki" site for the info. 👍

EDIT: Here's a video of the Smokey Mountain North from Gran Turismo 3. @ToyGTone posted a video with the GT2 Smokey Mountain tracks a few posts below, so ... Enjoy!
