Event #2 Schedule Change Proposition

To all drivers, I was certain this Friday would not have any interference for scheduling, and for all intents and purposes, I can still make it happen.

However, my older daughter is having her 13th Birthday Party Saturday and my wife's parents and our nephews will be in town Friday late afternoon/evening. I am prepared to go Mr Anti-Social for two hours if needed, but I am inquiring to see if everyone confirmed for Friday night could run tomorrow night instead, Thursday, 9pm est. The Pre-qualifying room would be at 8:30pm est.

THIS IS NOT A SCHEDULE CHANGE AT THE MOMENT, ONLY AN INQUIRY.

The only way we will run tomorrow night is uf every driver confirmed can swing tomorrow night, or if a driver(s) knows they cannot race either night.

Please reply:
Confirmed for Thursday.

Again, a seperate formal announcement of the change will be posted if everyone is able. Otherwise, we will default back to Friday.

Deadline to confirm is 5pm est, Thursday (today). (Was extended from 11am)

Please monitor the thread for final confirmation on whether we will be racing tonight.

If everyone is able to change and the race night is moved to tonight, the original order of confirmations will be used for grid priority.

There seems to be some misunderstanding of what a good tune is.
I am a newbie and through my research, hard work, and dedication I would like to help some to better understand what a "Good Tune" is....

Is a good tune based on laptime alone? I would hope that all of you with waaaaaay more experience than myself (7-8 months) would know that a laptime does not qualify as the one and only significant measurable marker of a "Good Tune"

A good tune is very individual and specific for the driver / starter tunes are great for a newbie and will lend you a good time - but a tune specifically made for an individual driver has way more advantages than lap time alone. With a good tune designed for an individual driver it affords the following

HERE ARE A FEW ITEMS of a "Good Tune"

1 - optimal tire contact
2-optimal weight distribution
3-improved slip angle
4-smoooth weight transfer
5-predictable handling
6- COMFORT

All.of the above items.I am currently missing in MY TUNE -

SOME of you may understand this and.others maybe not -

I am not feeling optimal tire contact
I am.not feeling optimal weight transfers
I am.not feeling my.slip angle is correct
The weight transfer is way off creating instability
I do not feel handling is always PREDICTABLE

AND LAST I do not feel the tune is at full comfort.level.

Can I pop out a few fast laps! SURE /

But I witnessed Sand do 10 lapse with his slowest lap a 2:13.5 and a few 2:12.xx times. I cant help but wonder how he feels doing faster lapse with less PP and RH tires - is his tune.optimized for his driving style? It appears so as his times are tightly.grouped.

My times are all over the place and a lot.of that is COMFORT LEVEL of the tune.

So when I say my tune sux - I can feel.what it is.doing but unable to get all.parameters to a great ride on the track. The tune is still off and needs much improvement

Snap oversteer - releasing the brakes to quickly creates bunny hopping and snap over steer - suddon rapid.dropping of the throttle throws the car into a rebounding suspension that goes to crap instantly.

So for those that do not understand what a "good tune" vs " bad tune" can hopefully understand that . fighting with the car.to knock out a few quick lapse doesnt mean squat when ur fighting the car in every corner and fighting the car to get.into.position for corner entry, apex, and exit.

If lap times are the qualifying condition for a "Good Tune" your missing soooooo much.

HOPE THIS CLARIFIES MY EXPERIENCE AND CLARIFYS WHAT I MEAN

MY TUNE IS CRAP

It’s not your tune! It’s not your tire temps! It’s your driving style.

If you spent half the time you spend on worrying about tire temps and whining about your tune, on improving your driving consistency and style, you might start to see some improvement.

My advice: forget about Dr Dave’s miracle driving app and drive your damn car!

That is all.

Now wait a minute Dub - this is totally incorrect on your part.

I SPENT the first two weeks running exactly as you described - just run the car smooth and easy / but every time i would get to lap 6 or 7 the back end would slip out in a corner. OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.......

This made no sense to me and I could NOT for the life of me figure.out why. SO I slowed down and the issue would happen again but on lap 10 or 11.

I struggled trying to figure out why and had no answer.

I got the brain storm to look at the telemetry with ezio app and BAMMMMMM tire temps were at 205 or above....

So no - if your having the same iissue over and over that suddenly your car just shoots out from under you YOU CANNOT IGNORE IT. You cannot fix what you DO NOT understand.

So I strongly disagree

My ability to run consistent lap times has nothing to do with my tune. I take a tune that feels stable and start working on brake points, gear changes, when to accelerate on corner exit and how much throttle to apply. I have never tried to figure out tire temps. It’s not part of GT7 so I don’t worry about that. Once I’ve found a tune that feels stable I start running full length practice sessions, usually alone, and I see what kind of tire wear I see. Rarely do I make big changes to any part of my tune. Small tweaks here and there there but nothing major.

Racecraft is what you need to learn. That can’t be “tuned” into your car. Running years and years in the Sunday Spec series is where I learned that. Maybe that’s where you should focus your energy. Race with others without tuning, without any car advantage. Get used to having the same equipment and learn how to get more out of the car instead of the tune.

@llNovall Thank you for holding off til tonight. I didn't get home til 11 last night. After a 19 hour day I wouldn't have been capable of running well even if I had made it. I'll be there for tonight. As far as you not being able to make it next week for a reschedule why not push it to two weeks out?

@The_Antman_ you and I have far less experience and wheel time than a lot of the others here. Instead of trying to make the car more comfortable to you make yourself more comfortable with the car.

If I’m wrong about it being driving style, shoot me over your tune and I’ll throw some mediums on and run your tune for 15-20 laps and see if I have the same results with the tire burning off and unable to keep in on track after 7 laps!
The one thing we do agree on is that if you’re having the same issue over and over again you cannot ignore it. 🤔

@The_Antman_
Sand, Dub, and Radliff hit the nail on the head. The tune will only carry you so far.

I have mentioned multiple times to focus less on the tune and more on driving the car within it's performance limits. Heat and wear comes from sliding the tires. You are driving past the ragged edge. The goal is to drive as close to that edge as possible without going over. This is why handicaps and concessions have been issued. The edge is different for different driver's skill. Those at base or on handicap, their edge is higher, so they are being forced to race closer to their actual limits. Those with concession are being afford them to allow help to raise or compensate for those limits. But it is still up to the driver of any skill level to stay in control. That then breeds consistency and elevates the quality of racecraft.
Example: if you and Bublyman were at the same PP on same tire. He could comfortably race you at 6/10's effort while youre on or past the ragged edge. Now when he leans on it, he is 2 sec/lap faster at his edge. By handicapping him and giving you a concession, it brings in the bookends of the skillset differences and forces the higher skilled drivers closer to their limits for the pace while giving the concession drivers a little room to not be on the limit to be in the pace. This is what everyone is saying. Find the limit, then learn to drive within the limit focusing on consistency, racecraft, runnning alternate lines safely, etc. Then work on "racing".
With your concession, there is no reason you should be attempting any entry or mid corner passing. These are hi risk/hi reward, and take a ton of braking skill and control to execute. Those at base or handicap....this is their territory to explore and in most cases the only way overtakes can sometimes occur at such close pace. (This is why you are seeing/experincing some incidents with these drivers...they are forced to find those incremental opportunities before race night in close quarter battles) With a strong concession, these types of moves are not necessary for you to attempt. The safe way would be to brake a little earlier to bleed off the speed and stay in control on entry. If battling someone on the straight into a braking zone, don't be afraid brake earlier and tuck in behind them thru the corner, and then set up the strong exit run. With the good run out of the corner and the extra hp, you can then take the easier pass on the straight. Be smarter an dmore patient on when you are choosing to attempt an overtake. Your race and someone elses can be heavily affected by that choice.
To Sand's point, the learning of the car limits and where your strengths and weaknesses are on track should usually be figured out in the first week or so. By the week prior to race night, most of the practice races are learning and exploring where you can actually make your moves in close proximity to other drivers. For those at base or handicap, the places those opportunities present themselves and the limts they have to push to execute are much higher and higher risk. With concessions, at this point so close to race night, you should be focusing on exploiting your car's advantage to afford you a clean and consistent race.

Slipping, sliding, and spinning isn't winning. Find the limits of grip, then back away and use what you need for a clean and consistent race. That will take you leaps and bounds further than a "perfect" tune.

Event #2 Drivers Meeting

Grid Business
Good afternoon to everyone who will be attending tonight's 2nd event at Sainte Croix Layout B. We have 19 drivers confirmed for this event. The Top 12 in th estandings that confirmed for the event are already guaranteed their grid spot for tonight. The remaining 7 drivers are invited to enter the Pre-Qualification room at 8:30pm est, hosted by PSN ID: @Bologna_Duc / PSN ID: Bologna_Duc. Please be sure to enter the room and forward your spec sheets to my PSN ID: NOVA-0479 before the pre-qualifying session starts. The pre-qualifying session will begin at 8:40pm est. Be sure you are greened up and ready before the session begins. Once the session starts, it will not be re-started for any reason...no exceptions. At the end of the 10 minute qualifying session, a screenshot of the results will be captured and forwarded to my psn, and the host will direct the 4 fastest drivers to proceed to the main race room at 9pm est. For the complete pre-qualification process details, see the tab below.
For the first event of this series, the top 12 drivers to confirm attending are guaranteed their grid spots for Event #1. Every event thereafter, the top 12 drivers in overall points standing will be afforded grid priority and first right of refusal for the next event. They simply need to confirm at any point up to 8pm est on the Thursday before our Friday race night to claim their grid priority. Drivers in the top 12 in standings that cannot make an event and confirm absent will forfiet their grid spot(s) to the additional confirmed drivers in the order in which they confirmed.

For the final four grid spots:
-If we have only 4 drivers confirmed/available by 8pm est on the Friday race night, those four drivers will simply procede to the race room at 9pm est to fill out the grid and the race night will proceed as normal.

-If we have more than 4 drivers confirmed/available by 8pm est on the Friday race night, those drivers will be required to run a formal Pre-Qualification session to establish the final 4 spots and remaining reserve priority for that night's event. (If confirmed drivers in this group choose to rescind their confirmation rather than attempt to qualify for the final 4 spots, and only 4 drivers remain, those 4 remaining drivers can procede to the race room at 9pm est as no run-off is then necessary).

-If the Pre-Qualification session does proceed and the final 4 drivers are established, any driver(s) that were present, posted a time for the Pre-Qualification session prior to an Event, and does not earn a spot on the main grid will earn an equivalent to last place concession award of +2pp toward their next event driver regulation. For those at the +20pp regulation, no more concession will be afforded.

If the Pre-Qualification is Necessary:
-@Noob01_lmdead / PSN ID: RJC76 will be our dedicated Pre-Qualifying room host with @Bologna_Duc / PSN ID: Bologna_Duc as our back-up host for this session. Be sure to have both of them on your PSN friends list to have access to their room. They will not be on track during this session (unless they are outside the top 12 in standings and are part of the run-off group)
-Pre-Qualification Lobby will be openened at 8:30pm est on our scheduled race night. Lobby settings will be set to the same as the main race lobby, except for the change to 10 minutes for the Pre-qualifying session. All confirmed Drivers (or last minute available drivers) will have 10 minutes to enter the room and forward their spec sheets to my PSN ID or to the series PSN group chat.
-Pre Qualifying will start promptly at 8:40pm est for a 10 minute qualifying session. (Again, if only 4 drivers are present at 8:40pm est, this session can be cancelled and those 4 drivers can procede to the main race room at 9pm est)
-The host will collect a screenshot of the qualifying results to be sent to the series group chat, and the top 4 (or more if needed to cover for very late last minute drops) will be directed to procede to the main race room when it opens at 9pm est.
-This Pre-Qualification room will then be closed, and all drivers that made the grid are to procede to the main race room when it opens at 9pm est.
-The main race lobby/room will then procede in it's current format of 15 min warmup/sending specs, 15 min Race 1 qualifying session, and then the 30 min race 1. Drivers that race the pre-qualification are expected to send their spec sheet again once the main race room is entered.

ALL drivers on the main race room grid should submit their spec sheets to my PSN: NOVA-0479 between the time that the room opens at 9pm est and the start of qualifying at 9:15pm est. (Drivers that were in the Pre-Qualifying session should submit these spec sheets again to the group psn or my psn before qualifying begins at 9:15pm est)
I'd ask all drivers to make sure they are running a wired connection in any way possible and to clear their network cache before entering the race room to avoid any issues. It seems the online lobbies run based on the slowest running system and/or internet speed in the room....basically throttles everyone down which appears to cause the instability we have experienced in the past. Let's try to head off any of these issues and optimize everything on our own ends that we can to help. For those with faster internet service speeds (over 200mbps+), it seems there are less issues with stability. For those on slower internet speeds or forced to run wirelessly, their network appears to be affected more when other in the household are online and pulling from the service speed. See this link to optimize your network priority for the gaming, and try to reduce internet usage (if possible) elsewhere in the house when racing.

Get them final practice laps in, and be ready for tonight.

Reminder to all drivers:
The first twelve confirmed drivers are holding 1 of 12 guaranteed grid spots, and we have 25 drivers on the PS5 roster, 19 for tonight. Please notify me as soon as reasonably possible if you are unable to make the event. The latest acceptable notice without any recourse is 9:10pm est. If any confirmed drivers drop out last minute, the next fastest driver from pre-qualifying will be invited to the race room.

Drivers Briefing
A few reminders for Sainte Croix Layout B:
1.) Be mindful in the opening laps. Be patient, and avoid contact/incident at all cost. Incidents that result in an issued caution, in the opening 2 laps, will come under automatic review for any possible infractions and penalized as necessary. Please be patient, brake earlier, and respect your opponent driver's space/line...they are not brakes or guard rails.
2.) Tight Sections and Chicanes: There is no written rule for these sections, but I'd ask all drivers to exercise caution and good judgement through these sections. Know when you have lost the position when approaching these section, and be considerate enough to back out to avoid the risk of incidents. This series will continue to induce some very close quarters racing, and one slow up, or mistake could result in yourself, both, or many drivers losing position....don't be that guy. If both drivers are dead on, side by side, proceed with caution, and hold your lines. Just be warned that attempting to go side by side in these sections cleanly will slow both of you down and almost guarantee a loss of position(s) from other attacking drivers. BE CAREFUL and AVOID CONTACT.
3.) See this Event Details and review for driver specs, race details, and allowable track boundaries for Sainte Croix.

MAJOR WARNING FOR SAINTE CROIX LAYOUT B: BE AWARE OF THE DOWNHILL S BEFORE THE BRIDGE, AND THE RIGHT HANDER IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO THE BRIDGE. THERE IS A HUMP MID CORNER THAT WILL UNSETTLE THE CAR.

Final Reminders:
-Please be sure that everyone is on a wired connection to their PS5 (in any way possible)
-Clear cache before entering the race room
Lets try to do the best we can to reduce the jitters within the lobby.
Any drivers that are noted or noticed to create continuous issues will be asked to retire for the event.
