I’m thoroughly enjoying the online portion of GT5, not so much the public lobbies but the private ones hosted amongst friends. I have 77 in game friends, 50 of which I race with very often.
I have a mixed bunch of PSN/GT5 friends, from slow to VERY fast, I am probably somewhere in the middle and can get very close to the faster guys using particular cars and tracks.
For the WRS Division 1 guys, who do you race with? It would be safe to say that GTP Div 1 guys are among the best GT5 players on earth, as plenty of names I see topping the time sheets in previous and current GT academy. Are many of you buddies of each other; it would make more sense as you guys are very quick?
For me, I often prefer to race with drivers that are faster than me, helps me to improve. I have a few Japanese PSN friends. From experience the Japanese are the cleanest racers I have come across. ERITMAX and STREETRACING, 2 really fast Japanese guys. When they are in lobbies I always jump in, kind of in awe and feel very inadequate:
Others often in the same lobby Are all big GT5 names in Japan. Even though I am slower than these guys they are happy for me to join, even if communication is a problem (google translate helps hehe). There are a few tracks/cars where I can be almost competitive, but generally this bunch just disappear. It’s just one big train steaming off into the distance. Allot of my GT5 friends on PSN are also friends with each other, this means that I am racing against many people who also race with each other on a regular basis. In this group, we all know how each other drive, and who the fast guys are. It is also great when you get a lobby with the crème de la crème of your gt5 buds, racing, kinda Clash of the Titans. It’s nice to see who comes out on top. Excluding the Japanese guys, I am still not sure who the fastest of my GT5 buds are?
How about my fastest PSN bud VS yours? hehe
For me the online portion of GT5 is the most enjoyable, though all I want is a race report function at the end of each race, so I can view fastest lap times of drivers etc, rather than having to watch the whole replay to be able to see fastest laps. Also a way to create an online championship among friends, where I can set race dates/times etc, with a points table displayed after each race, and for it to be synced with GT5 site for anyone to view via a link, much like how remote races are displayed.
Yeah GT5 has faults, but to all of you feeling let down by A-spec, and all of the other bits, get yourself a tight little group on here, and organise leagues/events etc, have casual races, and just let the racing rekindle the spirit.
Sorry for the big post, just that I am away from home and my PS3/GT5, luckily there is a PS3 in the house, and I was able to compete in the 4th round of the NA vs Turbo championship last night, though I can't hog the PS3 like I want to!! Out of 13 race starters I came 7th after qualifying 6th. Unfortunately, I span on the first corner on the 1st lap of Suzuka, and had to fight from last, and had a great battle with 6th place after catching him up. I was faster and after some position changing, I lost it on the last lap and took 7th after 21 laps. The racing was tight, and clean, and I had great fun.
Last race of the season is Fuji F, a track I am very strong at, I expect to get a podium. Fingers crossed.
Anyways, again sorry for the long post.
Enjoy GT5.
