and it came with a bunch of goodies i believe the seller didnt know it had.
its an older model ps2 (fat version)
came with an original 8mb memory card, network adapter, an actual sony HD with 40gb and came with 2 generic controllers (logitech controller only one worth using).
after doing some adjustments, i noticed the HD had PlayOnline Viewer.
did a little research, but i lost interest. (have to register for playonline viewer)

im wondering if i should ditch the 40gb and put in a 60gb or whole new HD (maybe 500gb?)

any ideas?

just did a little more research, hehe!
and after seeing this picture:

i vaguely remembered square was selling a ps2 bundle with 40gb HD and their online game. but dont remember how long ago this was...

so i guess i bought that system, cant wait till tomorrow (or when stores actually open), so i can get a can of air and run a vacuum to spray/suck all the dust out, along with my ps3 also. :D

I'd have thought that a 40gb HDD would be more than sufficient for a PS2. I don't know how the HDD is used on a PS2, whether you can 'rip' games onto the HDD for quicker access or whether it's just used as a glorified memory card.

*edit* According to Wiki you can upload games to the HDD for quicker access, but few games acctually support this feature.

You can actually do a lot with the HDD in the Fat PS2 but I am not mentioning what. Though that Socom 2 and Resident Evil Outbreak Support the HDD. ( from my knowledge)

I'll mention it since it doesn't cross the line into piracy. It won't rip a game from a burned disc, only from an original. So piracy is out of the question. However I won't mention how to go about it... you'll have to do your own research here.

HDLoader 0.8c will rip your original games to the hard disk. About 90% of the PS2 library is supported. 0.8c even supports DVD9 images such as Gran Turismo 4 and God of War II.

It's a win-win situation. My copies of GT4 and GoWII stay in pristine condition, AND they load much faster on the hard drive. Choose to enter a race in GT4 and you are immediately at the race screen where you choose A-Spec or B-Spec, Settings, Options, etc.

Really? I would want to talk about this because I have seen some several cases that HDLoader has ripped from a burned Discs and it could take memory from a Thumbdrive also.

This morning I made an ISO image and burned it to test this out and it wouldn't rip the disc. It told me to insert the original disc and that it wasn't a PS2 game. HDLoader looks for the data string that tells the PS2 that the disc is Sony original and if it isn't there it won't rip it.

If it can take memory from a thumbdrive then I know nothing about that. I know uLaunchELF will read from mass:/ but I don't know about HDLoader.

I think I can see where this is going, and I can assure you that I don't pirate my games. Piracy removes incentive for developers to keep doing what they do. I was there on release morning 2/22/05 when Gran Turismo 4 came out and I gladly paid $50 for this quality game. Piracy is the reason that the PSP sucks as much as it does. Developers just *know* that people will pirate the hell out of the games, sometimes before they're even released!
