I was a major forza 4 guy and have always wanted a wheel but could never justify the money for a wheel. I was browsing CL and picked up a G27 in pristine condition for 80 dollars. Went and bought a PS3 and GT6 that night. I built a small portable pvc rig to get me through for now but i am building a fullsize cockpit. I have decided after endless searching and about 40 pages of browsing on here till 3am last night ive come to the conclusion that i should have just spared the PS3 and
hooked it up to my PC. So i found a button box, the e brake mod and a couple other things. My question is are there any other things i can do for a full on realistic cockpit and feel? Or is all of the good stuff mainly for the PC? Im trying to majorly overkill this thing and have the best PS3 setup i can because otherwise i feel like i just bought one for no reason.

Well as far as buying a used G27,I would recommend taking it apart and check the encoder wheel for any cracks and put a dab of glue on if you find any. Also check the screws on the encoder pickup sensor board and make sure they are tight. Then grease up the gears really well and shim the slider gear for the front to back movement, that will help the wheel feel really tight and quiet.

Then I would order a larger diameter steering wheel such as a momo or sparco and get a wheel adapter and longer paddles. Then your ready for a custom button plate, although you can't run an SLI plate with the PS just custom buttons. Also invest is a GTeye brake spring, best bang for the buck mod!

If you plan on PC gaming be aware you need to have a high quality PC and then of course pay monthly subscription to play iracing or the like.

I am using a toodles chthulu for my button box.. i just started it this morning i also plan on doing the rest once everything gets here. I have a solid pc for gaming just really prefer consoles.

I was just curious as to whether there was more i can do. I see rigs that have full working dashboards and im jealous. Also i came across a hall sensor i believe it was called. I guess its intended purpose was to replace the pits in the pedals. I guess more or less i just needed informed of what my options were for a PS3 rig and a good starting point for info.

I agree about those dashboards, they are sweet. Buys as far as I know you can't do it on a console. I still have my G27 but I ended up buying a T500 because it has better feedback and is more solid feeling. I also still want to ad a button box,but would love to make a dash or even an SLI plate for GT6 but I don't think you can.

All the good stuff is pretty much on the PC, GTR2, rFactor, Assetto Corsa, iRacing, Game Stock Car. Trying to build an awesome ps3 setup is like trying to build the best vespa, its pretty pointless, it doesnt help either that the PS3 is at the end of its cycle. I personally would just ditch the ps3 approach though. I was the same way liking console more until i did switch to PC and I've never looked back, i cant even play GT6 anymore because it just feels awful. Plus on PC you can mix and match products to get the best out of a game, like for instance getting the reliability of the G27 wheel but having the much better Fanatec Pedals to go with it instead of the rather poor G27 pedals.

From impressions rather than direct experience, I'd second the GTEye suggestion. With PS3 you certainly don't have the Simvibe option, but can add some decent engine, curb, and impact feel with subs and/or bass shakers. If you're interested in this (and you really should be), I'd suggest looking at what would work with Simvibe, then tailor that gear to your current set up. That way, if you switch to pc later, you have gear that will work with it. I don't know that much about this stuff, but I'm thinking maybe an iNuke 1000dsp + a couple of shakers + the right fmod adapters to give you left/right action on impacts and curbs, and overall engine vibrations. It adds a lot, even when merely sound driven.

My only real problem besides the fact i would rather find a way on ps3 is my pc is devoted to the house where as the ps3 and cockpit will be in my garage. But thank you all for the ideas and suggestions.
