And I have another one of the world famous double ear infections, perfected by yours truly. The doctor took a look in my right ear, told me I had an amazing amount of scar tissue from previous infections, and had a mild infection. Took a look in the left ear, and said "Wow" at how bad it's infected. Right now there's tons of pressure behind it, and it's ringing at a very high note. She took a look at my throat, and it looked so bad she thought I had strep throat, but the tests were negative for it.

I should be going to get my antibiotics in a little while, and on the plus side they gave me a decent sized prescription for Robatussin DAC. I wonder if it'll be as good as my 500mg hydrocodone/43% alcohol cough syrup. I hope so...

Mmm, nummy codeine... Mouth waters just thinking about it.

well ive had infections after my heart surgery but it wasnt all that bad. That sounds worse

My ear infections are the worst any doctors have ever seen. The one in my left ear has brought tears several times throughout the past few days, and one I had when I was about 14 was so bad in both ears that I couldn't do anything but curl up in the fetal position and cry. I had to be carried to the car, and from the car into the hospital.

In fact, now that I think about it, I've never been to a hospital for any reason other than ear infections. I guess I'm lucky though, these are manageable most of the time, and even when they're evil, I could have it alot worse.

Just curious, but were you given numerous antibiotics when you were much younger?

I've always had a theory that when young kids are given antibiotics, their body doesn't develop a strong immune system. When they're older, their body doesn't have the ability to fight of disease and infections.

I'd be interested to hear the answer.

At any rate, Hope life improves, and enjoy the codeine. It is great stuff ;)

No, I'm pretty sure I wasn't given antibiotics very much as a kid. I think for when I had chickenpox, and may or may not have had them for (supposed, I don't remember it being all that bad) ammonia, and that's it. But I do have history of ear infections, obviously, and I'm pretty sure I had them when I was a really small child, so I may have had the Amoxicillin back then too, but my mom despises antibiotics because she knows they make your immune system weaker.

Usually my immune system is pretty decent, and I have a very high tolerance for pain, but my ears are destined to be my downfall. That and my teeth, but that's a whole other story, which involves alot of vicodin and a really terrible dentist who botched a root canal. Ever had pain come back in a tooth with a root canal on it? Let me tell you, women think giving birth is painful, let them have pain in nerve ends that don't even exist anymore. That one also had me curled up in the fetal position crying, but after 13 lortabs I was able to stumble into the dentist's office to have it removed. I also saw 6 of everything because of the lortabs for a long time.

That's great to hear. 👎

They stuffed my body with antibiotics from my 6th to 10th year.

Well, we went to get my prescription filled, and not a single pharmacy in town opens before 9 AM. That's saying alot since there are 4 CVS's, 3 Rite Aid's, Kroger's Pharmacy, Wal-Mart Pharmacy, and 3 independantly owned pharmacy's.

On a side note, bananas do not agree well with Ghost's stomach. I just threw up one during the trip, I must be allergic to them.

When i was little my whole first year of life was with servere ear infections to the point i had to get tubes put in. Did the doctor mention anythin like that to you about getting tubes?

Attila-No. No no no no no. No tubes for the Ghost.

Milefile-Codeine doesn't suck. At all. Ever. I'd like to go to sleep and not wake up 5-10 minutes after I lay down.

They didn't have the cough syrup at the pharmacy we ended up going to, either, so I'll have to get some tomorrow.

When I was little I used to get a lot of ear infections too. I've also curled up in the fetal position and cryed before. But I did have tubes put in. I can remember that I was at my nursery and I was digging in my ear and the tube came out. I had it on my finger looking at it like "What the heck is this!....Oh well..Lets go play with some Legos." I flicked it onto the floor and a few hours later I got all scared about it and went to try and find it but one of the ladies had already sweeped it up.

i've had a nasal problem since i was about 5 yrs old. finally, in gr.7, they figured out that it was a septal deviation (stuff inside is misaligned). so, they took me in for surgery and about 2 months after the operation, the problem came right back...but this time with allergies to make my nose stuffy 24/7. i'm 17 now, almost 18. i'm more or less immune to most allergy medications, the ones that work, work great but cause nose bleed to the point where i can't inhale. so far, no surgery, since i'm in canada, i don't think the doc knows i've even had the prob before and since it's free healthcare, they avoid hospital visits as much as possible.

not a big deal i guess...after all these years u get used to it.

Yeah same here. I used to have really bad ear infections when I was a child. To young to really remember them.
I do remember the doctors putting "tubes" in my ears and I remember when they fell out too. I suppose mine were in my ears for 2-3 years, what about you Raptor65?

Is it to late for you to get "tubes" put in your ears Ghost?
See if it's an option as I've never had another ear infection. Ever.

Well, now the pressure and ringing is equally as bad in both ears, my throat is terrible, and I have a stiff neck for some reason (And the little papers they gave me said to return to the ER if I got a stiff neck, I think I'll wait a day or two and see if it gets any worse/better though). Got a little bit of sleep tonight, which made me feel a little better for about 10 minutes after I woke up. Physically, I feel worse, but mentally I'm feeling better, which makes absolutely no sense at all.

I finally got my codeine cough syrup, which really isn't helping either. I wonder if anyone has ever died from having really bad ear infections, heh.

I think my tubes were in for about a year, but i wouldn't bet the farm on it.

Ummm... A couple of things.
I have to agree to a point about Alex and his theory about antibiotics.
I know that if you don't finish your antibiotic course, or are on the same antibiotic over and over the germs become "resistant" to the antibiotic.
That is why a lot of docs are using some of the 'earlier' antibiotics with some success again. The Germs don't "remember" the old stuff, and all of a sudden it's becoming effective again.

AS far as Codiene cough syrup, It's a great thing if you have a cough that nothing else will stop. I also like a very old drug called "Tessalon Perles" However, the side effects can be nasty with either of these, so take them sparingly. The Hydrocodone is a wonderful pain reliever. But, a lot of "codones" are synthetic codienes and the top side effect with Codiene is constipation from hell. (If you thought you were full of **** before, Codiene will ensure that that doesn't change.) It Slows down pain impulses to the brain, but it also slows motility in your digestive tract.
If you start on a Codiene or codiene derivative, pick up a little something to "encourage" your bowels.

The tubes mentioned by Raptor and a few others are designed to come out on their own when the problem has resolved. My son had tubes in when he was a baby. When he was about three, the tubes came out on their own. The Doc said that that was the way it was supposed to be. He's had no problems. Actually, he's had about the same number of Ear infections as the other kids.

The codeine is being good to me, the ulcer I've had in my mouth for a week is going away, but my head is so full of pressure and my ears are ringing so bad, I'm not sure what to do. There are parts of my skull that are in pain from the pressure in it (around my eye sockets, in front/behind/above my ears, forehead, upper jaw), and I'm wondering how much pressure it would take to fracture, if it's even possible. The ringing is manageable, but I hope it goes away soon, as it's made my hearing alot more "sharp" (read: loud noise feels like being jabbed in the ear with an ice pick).

Bah, I need to go take antibiotics, I'll post something else later if I'm not too, uh, I don't know. In pain I guess, this pressure is making it hard for my brain to work.

I know exactly how u feel, ive had asthma all my life. except my parents didnt find out tell i was 5 stupid docs and the hospital :banghead: :banghead:

Someone else has ear infections all the time besides me? Oh goody.:o Actually, weight loss may have effected that too, haven't had one in three years. Before that it was at least once per year, and my right ear has lost hit points permanently. -10dB @ 6 kHz.

Well, I just got back from a second trip. Now not only have I been diagnosed with otitis media, but also have sinusitis. Wee, fun stuff. Got a prescription for Allegra (Which is really ****ing expensive), and a needle in the ass full of the best kind of antibiotic known to man, or something.

My ears do feel slightly better, I'll give them that, but the shot in the ass was uncalled for. It took the swelling out of my ears and put it in my right cheek.

I had a few ear infections myself and I had those tubes for the fluid in my ears, but that was a long time ago. I remeber the pain was so bad I could barely stand up. Mind you the greatest part was when I was in secondary school and blood started dribbling out of my ear during class.

I used to have kind of bad ear infections, from when I was five to maybe nine. They probably weren't really that bad, just that they were so frequent. And I (was) a whimp, so I'm sure they'd seem a lot worse back then. For some reason, I had a dormant infection of some kind that totally zapped all hearing in my left ear in one night; I had to dump some kind of acidic chemical in my ear and lay down sideways for half an hour. But even that's not really killer, I guess. It didn't hurt much.

I haven't been able to breathe through more than one nostril at a time for...about five years now. Except for the three seconds after a really violent sneeze. The doctors don't know why, either; they thought I could be allergic to something, and then all the medicine they gave me didn't help, so now they're thinking my bone structure is to blame...

Anyway, get better.
