Would have been funny though. (I actually like Samantha's car very much)

Back on topic...

On second thoughts, if I had 3000$ to put on a car I'd look first for either a 94-97 Accord (4cyl man) or a 93-97 Altima, they are very decent and reliable cars, or a bit younger Civic.

Klos, any models on top of your list yet?

Edit: corrected from 93-98 for the Altima, following Doug's post.

Doug, are you saying I could potentially get a 2003 malibu in the $3K range?!

No - but if you find a 1997 selling for more than $3000, you should report the dealer to the Better Business Bureau for overcharging their customers. The Malibu had a standard V6, it was always reliable, and it had decent spec - never had a manual transmission, though.

I second the suggestion of the 1993-1997 Nissan Altima, by the way - get past the base XE and GXE models and, like in all Nissans from that time period, the SE and GLE models were completely full of stuff (though also like other Nissans of the period, the GLE came standard with an automatic transmission - so look for an SE) - they had decent powertrains, too - 150bhp was more than the 4-cylinder Camry had until 2002, and the Camry was supposed to be a midsize while the Altima was a small. The best part about the Altima was that after coming out in 1993, it received practically no changes until it was redesigned in 1998, so a 1993 GLE that costs a couple thousand less than a 1997 GLE is actually an extremely similar vehicle - in 1994, they added a passenger airbag and 3-point seat belts; in 1995 they redesigned the wheels, and in 1997 they increased side-impact protection as was mandated by the government - that's the list of changes for its entire production run.

Get an old Miata. If you want to go cruising around with friends, just chop them up into little pieces and shove them into the trunk. You should easily be able to put 4 or 5 people back there, right?

..something that'll be economic and won't rip a hole into my wallet in insurance costs. It'd probably have to cost under $3K, too.

West Side Ninja
Get a fox body mustang for under 10k.

Did you even read any of his post?
