So what do YOU do before the start?

I'm sure a lot of people here do different things before the start of a race when sitting on the grid. Once a long time ago I was looking for some cheats for GT1 and one said to rev up the engine to the rev limiter and let it drop back down to 0 as many times as possible for a faster start. Of course, it didn't work. :( But it has stuck with me ever since so I just like to do it anyway.

Besides that:

1. Apply just the right amount of pressure to let the needle sit on a certain number on the tachometer.

2. Shift through all the gears as many times as possible.

3. Rev the engine up to 1000 rpms, then let it go to 0, then up to 2000 rpms, back to 0, and so on.

4. Rev the engine and let it rest at different times to make a rhythm.

5. Rev the engine and shift up when I get to the rev limiter, as if I were actually driving it.

I do number one all the time. I often rev the engine in reverse then quikly to 1st and notice how the engine doesnt half to go down to zero then back up once it s in 1st.

why would it have to go down?

sometimes I hold the brake and rev up and let it go at the green.
Or
trying for best start, I rev to 5000 and maintain it, since my foot pedal allows this and floor it at the green in 1st or 2nd if the car is strong enough

Sometimes I do what the CPU does, which is moving the needle up and down at the same rate. Ill do that and then tap the accel button quickly or I just hold down the accelerator all the way.

I leave it at full revs most of the time. Even though you get a bad start its good to get a bit slidy in the rear with no ASM and TCS!

Another thing I do is use the Dual Shock 2's 256 different pressure settings and try to keep the needle at a certain rpm line :)

Or full throtle and just wiggle the wheels!

Well, i dont have gt3, but i have gt2 :D

I usually just hold the gas... noting special. sometime i rev on and off, like the coms do.. bah

When I have a powerfull car under my a$$, I rev around 3k rpm, and 2 secs before greenlight I suddenly give full trottle to scare the opposition:)

brum-brum-bruuum brruuooommmm brumm-brumm-br-brr-bruuum
VRRRRROOOOOMMM!!!!!!

Or I don't do anything, and at greenlicht I hit full reverse-full trottle-brake-trottle-trottle-brake-trottle so the car's doing this phat burnout and then shift to 2nd and pull away in a 10ft slide!! TCS and ASM off and +700hp!

"...love don't come easy" But this'll generate some love from the crowd ;)

I spin a doughnut at the start, just to give the AI a chance. :p
I just try to rev to about half of redline and floor it at the green.

Well, depends on what car I have...

For my TVR Speed 6, I just jam the throttle (so that it's hitting the rev limiter), then right before the green I let go a little bit, so that I'm around 3-4k rpms.

For my Impreza Rally car (which I have now sold), I did option #1.

For my Escudo (I just bought it last night! Yippie!), I don't even really care how I launch it... in fact, I usually don't even touch the accelerator before the green, because I love to watch it go slowly and then break traction and rocket off, while I desperately try to manuever around other cars. :D

i rev up to the rev limiter... keep it there, then huge burnout and i'm away!

The best starts are made on simulation tires! Too bad you'll have to drive the whole race on them though  :p

i listento the revs of the other cars then i rev up the engine the same way they do in formula i cars, bare with me while i demonstrate:
tap on the table you'r sitting at to understand what i mean, try to synchronise the sound of the engine in your head with the tapping, here goes  :
1 is one tap, 2 is a little bit longer and then 3 longer and so forth.
112
1122
1122222
111222333333
13
13
11
11133334444
wel i tried i don't know if you guys will get it. :p
another way to know what i mean:
max r.pm. is 12000 lets say
up to 4000 and drop to 2000 , 4000,2000,4000, 200,5000,30006,6000,4000,8000,5000,2000,12000,10000,12000,10000.
and on the go release and apply quickly!!!
Man i am amazed with myself now, g o d i'm a genius :D

I hold the X button down all the way so that the tacometer is as high as possible all the time.

Err. Whatever. :D

I tend to go for a pee.
Then I make sure I've got enough beer for those long straight quick slurps.
Then I do the "holding it at a certain engine speed" thing.

but that gives a lot of wheel spin, not always good. try 4000-5000 rpm and tell me how you do. in a viper or something similar. oh, that's for no driver assist settings.

In a lot of cars it's a lot more profitable (excuse me, I'm dutch :D ) to start in 2nd...just mentioning ;)

Now you ARE a genius :D

Thank you :)

@talentless:

Wheelspin doesnt bother me most times I am using the Super-Slick tires and even if I spin the wheel for the entire first lap I still wont have to pit in that race, unless its a 20lapper. Again with Wheelspin, that is why Traction Control was invited :)

Zero, one time I got a rocket start. Wheel spin can make it so instead of crossing the start/finish line from 6th at 5 seconds, you are there at maybe 4.5.

zero, do you have a shark port yet, thought we coud share replays. me at cote and you at midfield?

I turn the wheels so i can see the rims i spent $$ for, and i pump the brakes so i can see the lights go on and off, and rev all the way .

Not yet Talentless within the week :)

ok. please try out the rpm thing.

you can also try holding it just at or before the redline.

i've got an incentive for you, i the "odd one" checked some of the time trial times at racing-line.org, and me and you are both submittees for 1-5, but i'm ahead.

2,3,5 vs your 1, 3.

you cannot let this stand, can you?

I havent had the time to go through all my times and submit them I know that my TTs and License times arent as good as they should but my F1 lap times more than make up for them :)
