I have the fanatec carrera. It's my first wheel so i can't compare it to anything. I like the feel of the wheel, the pedals and the shifter. it is gear driven and makes a lot of noise and the motor is strong but really slow.

But the best thing is the possibility to set it up just like you want it!

bought a G27 but the Fanatec wheels look badass..especially the GT3 rs v2...expensive though..Just got a G27 for £200/$350........could have got it for £150 but was too damn slow...Ebay for schmucks

T500 RS

- lacks a PS3 H-pattern shifter (for now)
- can use a PC H-pattern shifter for PC games (guess Sony PS3 wouldn't allow this for their PS3 tho?)
- fixed paddles
- extremely limited compatibility with existing ps3 titles
- available in stores

Fanatec wheels

- can order optional H-pattern shifter
- great compatibility with existing ps3 titles (Plus you can get xbox 360 compat via PWTS / GT2)
- insane wait for GT2 wheel tho
- known for poor customer service
- good price due to their component based setup

Logitech wheels

- higher end wheels include h-pattern shifter
- great compatibility
- can only be used with PS3/PC
- great price
- possibly available in stores (but out of stock most likely)

* All these wheels are fairly rare if you ask me.

Just depends on what you're looking for. If you want a multiplatform wheel your only choice is the Fanatec GT2. If you just want a PS3 wheel then in my mind you're in the optimal place. Many great wheels to choose from

Yes the PS3 owner is spoilt for choice.

I own both systems but have to agree for wheel support the PS blows the xbox out of the water.

I would imagine MS will be bringing out a new wheel for Forza 4. Maybe a DFGT equivalent in quality and price.

That way they can cover the budget to higher end scale of wheels.

Was wondering is it even possible if MS wished to allow G27's for example to work?

I know there against 3rd party stuff working on there consoles but in principle is it possible?

Thrustmaster T500 RS, with much diference.

From the original post:

"And if there is another wheel out there that is better please tell me, just keep in mind that the main features I want are an H-Shifter with Clutch."

Being patients we will have our shifter for this wheel. Sure the wait worth it.

Now I have to say, the Thrustmaster T500 RS looks the best by far, but its not exactly what I'm looking for. Maybe if it were on sale, with an H-Shifter, it would. But for now, its looking like a four way tie between the 911 GT3 RS, 911 GT2, 911 Carrera, and Logitech G27.

I think there's every reason to expect a very high quality peripheral when it comes out, but at the moment it is vaporware, and if someone is keen to drive with a shifter I don't think it is realistic to recommend T500 and a long wait, even though ITS A LOVELY WHEEL AND I'M NOT SAYING ANYTHING BAD ABOUT IT!!! :D

No, G27 will never work as it doesn`t have the onboard electronics for XID forcefeedback. I doubt MS will bring out a wheel for FM4 because Fanatec was the OFFICIAL wheel for Forza and Forza 3 and they failed so miserably with the MS wireless wheel.

MS is not against 3rd party peripherals, it`s that third parties are too CHEAP to pay for the security chip. There was already a logitech wheel on the xbox 360 (drive FX), but it was worse than even a DFP.

Then the OP should wait to summer when TM are saying the Shifter should be out. The TM shifter should be at least as good if not better than a SST. So in regards quality or as a package the T500 is only likely to move further forward over Fanatec/Logitech.

The brake adapter plate has a threaded hole, why? The other pedals can also accept adapters, why? TM seem to have options available to them to further the T500 wheel but have not yet announced a pedal tuning kit or details of the shifter but they do seem to be hiding stuff.

Fanatec dont seem able to keep up with production of their wheels so I see no short term release of their also announced only shifter.

The OP already explicitly stated he wasn't interested in the T500RS a couple posts earlier. If you want a shifter now, then there is no point in waiting on a T500Rs especially when someone is buying it for you as a gift. Not to mention with the other wheels, you'll have great support in other racing games so it's slam dunk really.

Hi again Mr Latte!

I addressed this in a later post. I agree there is every reason to expect a great shifter for the T500, and the best shifting experience possible for GT5*, but you know as well as I do how these things go. Without a solid release date, a price or even a picture of the thing, there is no telling when it is really going to be ready to ship and bolt onto your rig.

With the difference in price, and a strong resale market for G27, I think it is reasonable to advise someone who really wants to drive with a stick to go G27, then wait for the verdict to come in when the T500 shifter comes out, and upgrade then. It will cost them maybe a hundred bucks to have the G27 for that time if they sell it second hand.

I mean since I got the G27, I've abandoned my endless slogging through GT5 A-spec, and just started hotting up low HP cars and thrashing them around with well matched opponents in seasonal events and so on. I'm just having a blast with it, its better than I thought it would be, and I thought it would be awesome!

*Caveat: Club Sport Shifter also on the way from Fanatec sometime

Again you are the only one who I've read that claims this. Even ISR who praises Fanatec admits some of the top times were done by Microsoft Wireless wheel. CSP load cell (or G27 nixim mod) doesn't provide any advantage when it comes to braking in FM3 (unlike Iracing). It clear the official "wheel" of Forza 3 is the controller (Wireless is close to a controller vs Turbo S) as you can even easily shift with clutch on the controller.
From what I've read Turbo S was suppose to have been the official wheel for RacePro. RacePro is the one X360 racing game that felt like it was designed around the wheel. Too bad it's wasn't as good as the PC version.

Wow I don't agree at all sorry.

Forget the controller being the official wheel statement, it's the official controller that's all.

If you are right about top times being done on a Microsoft wheel, you can dial in a Fanatec to be like a MS wheel. Not sure why you want to though.

Daveyskills uses a pad BTW.

As for the braking comment let me enlighten you.

I go to telemetry and see the grip levels on the tires.
From high speed I apply the brakes hard enough to lock all wheels.
I set my ABS to vibrate just at the point I lose all traction on my tires.

Bingo I have a mechanical signal sent to my foot and wheel that any more pressure will lock my tires. Feels like cheating it's that good.

BTW Thomas your site mentioned about the pedals not supporting the vibration function yet on consoles, you might want to update that, it does on many games.

Ok... but still the T500 is the best... :)

Seriously: I played GT5 Prologue with G25 (with H-shift plus clutch), and I prefer the feel of the T500, renouncing to manual shifting (for the moment).

After try the T500 never play again with a lower wheel, especially considering that the shifter of a G27 is not very realistic sensations transmitted.

For you it's the "best". For the rest of us it is not even eligible to be considered the best due to the lack of a h-shifter for GT5/PS3, f1 style paddles, and great support by upcoming games. NFS Shift 2 and F1 2010 for instance have not announced to fully support T500RS which is a real killer.

Of course personally I have to go with a multiplatform wheel so its Fanatec GT2/Clubsports wheel all the way :dopey: but even so I'd choose Logitech / Fanatec GT3 over it for the next year or so until T500RS fully matures

@Zoom, And as posted above, the Fanatec GT2 wheel is the official wheel for FM3.
