They look just like their dad, poor things! :p Seriously, you know how happy I am for you and your wife, Giles. :D

It's true, "Duke", "Alex", and especially "Jordan" would have made a great names! Oh well, just get to work on those triplets, Giles! :)

Will Alastair be kept until he reaches a certain weight? Generally, it's considered healthy at around 5 pounds.

5 pounds is the guide, but if they establish good feeding before then, then that's the real decision point. We got Emma home at under 5lb.

I can't believe the weights of those guys. Alastair isn't even 3 pounds!? I didn't think babies could live if they were that small, but he appears to be doing okay. I was told I was really light--I was in the low 6 ound range--and maybe that's why I'm light still.

Heh, our two year old was 6 weeks early and is taller and broader than most kids a year older than her, so it doesn't follow either way. We're both tall and reasonably-built, so they will follow suit, and will have caught up with full-term single babies by their first birthday.

Hirsute little buggers... :D

Indeed. It's the prematurity. But then you probably knew that! Still, it shows the sharpness of the lens!!!

The Espace will prove useful...

Followed an Audi A8 into town this afternoon (the car that we would have bought had it been big enough). Still sad about it. But the Espace is awesome (in the literal sense) and will be with us within 10 days.

Hey, they really look alike!

There's lots of talk of who they look like. They look like Alastair and Jonathan to me. Susan's parents were fighting over whether Alastair looks like me or Susan's father, so there you go...

Double trouble. You're in for it. Congratulations Giles. Any plans for more of the little buggers in the future?

Definitely not!!!

Congrats.

and since they are twins,I have an advice:
Say.
No.
To.
Matching.
Clothes.

:dopey: :dopey:

 That sounds like the wisdom of bitter experience!

Congrats, it's a miracle that everyone is healthy and doing fine :)

Totally!

Cool, so are they going to be identical? Or is that not known yet?

[EDIT] And yeah, 2 and 4 pound? That's damn light even for twins (I was an almighty 9lb 6oz I think ;)). Good luck.

Yeah. Alastair had a small placenta and so did not grow. There were concerns about his health a month ago, and so when Susan went into labour, they decided to deliver. They're four weeks early for twins, or six weeks early for a single.

You will know whether your twins are identical (monozygotic) or not (dizygotic) very early, since dizygotic twins have a placenta each, and monozygotics share a placenta. The placenta shows up very early on the ultrasound. We knew 9 weeks into the pregnancy that they were not identical.

It's true, "Duke", "Alex", and especially "Jordan" would have made a great names! Oh well, just get to work on those triplets, Giles! :)

Nah, our sons could not hope to live up to those monikers (puke!!!) ;)

My brother was 8 weeks premature and 1lb 8oz. In 1969.

A good mate of mine from school was 4 weeks premature and only a couple of lb's, but the real killer was that my mum was the midwife that delivered him. He lived over the road from me, oh she had some fun with that fact.

Congratulations Giles, they look pretty cute. And despite what they say, less is not actually more. 👍

Oh yeah, are they identical or fraternal?

Just feed them babies chili, and they'll grow big and strong. (Just get Famine to change their nappies.)

Congrats! 👍

Yeah, I think beans help develop kids really well. Some kind of protein makes a difference, anyway. My grandma was shoving frijoles negros through my gums before I could speak. Now I'm big and strong. :D

Congrats, Giles! :)

That's too bad about the A8...you'll have to get a "cool" car when they get older and learn to love cars (as I'm sure they will), so that they can brag to their friends at school about it. ;)

Wow congrats Giles

Must be relieved they are both so healthy. :)

Congratulations to you and your Wife, Guiles!

Expect some sleepless nights, eh? ;)

Congrats, Giles!

I was going to ask this yesterday, bu didn't get a chance. In the pic of Jonathan, he's sleeping on his stomach. That's about the last thing the do over here, unless it is the only way they will sleep. Is that a common practice there?

I completely agree. When our sons were born, i just started refusing to answer when anyone asked "Who do you think he looks like?"

I had problems changing diapers and clothes when mine were newborn and 8lbs. I can't imagine under 5. Of course, in a couple of months, that'll all change. But you already know that. We had problems with our youngest gaining weight and growing, brought him in and found out he has CF. Over the next few months after diagnosis, he gained a pound per week and an inch per month. It was crazy watching him grow in fast-forward.

Congrats, again. I'm glad everyone is doing well. :)

They put the babies on their front to reduce the tightening around the lungs and in the stomach. It helps with breathing, and it's especially good if the baby has a full tummy. Remember that in that shot, he's only 8hrs old, so he's still quite tender all over.

I remember back to Emma going through her catch-up spurts. She was tired and grumpy the whole time, and we eventually worked out that she was tired from the growing, and also hungry. So we just fed her and fed her and let her sleep. She was doing 5 meals per day, plus a litre of milk per day, and then just sleeping for about 18hrs in every 24. And then none of her clothes fit any more. It was mental.

Will the twins be getting Emma's hand-me-downs? I'm sure they'll look fetching in pink! :dopey:

I also didn't help that my youngest, who is just now getting up to the 50th precentile was being compared to my oldest, who at the same age was in the 95th. We had to take him out of his infant car seat before he could sit up because he was so big.

Glad I didn't have to go through that.

Yes. But we kept "neutral" and "girl" clothes in separate crates, so it's not a problem to dress them appropriately.

We had the same thing with the twins. While Jonathan motored along up the 50th percentile, Alastair was stuck in the bottom 10, and four weeks ago was estimated to be in the 4th. Emma was small when she was born, but is now probably no lower than the 75th.

Do parents use this stuff as material against other parents?

"Hey, my boy Charles is in the 96th percentile for height and weight. And the 99th percentile for awesomeness. Look at your dumpy little baby--99th percentile in weight and 13th percentile for height. Look at him, I can already tell he's going to die at age 27 of a massive heart attack when my son rushes by him in his 2034 Ferrari Gyroscope. It'll be red, by the way."

I'm so doing this when I have kids. Even if I have the dumpy baby, I'll be able to say that he has potential, while the other baby in the 96th percentile has already peaked and will live a lonely and sad life. And some day my son will drop a nickel in his coffee cup, thinking that he's a homeless person, when in fact he's just really fat, lazy, and smelly and waiting for the bus like a fat, lazy, smelly person.

Yeah, I can see it now.

Easy, Klos. Two parents can't express interest in each others kids?

I've got to say that your comment about dead at 27 is a bit unnecessary, as it hits too close to home. The average life expectancy of a child with Cystic Fibrosis is only mid 30's. It's not cool to think that your son could be gone before he's as old as you are and there is nothing you can do about it.

Do parents use this stuff as material against other parents?

Some probably do, but I don't, and TB isn't. Usually, if you or your child has a difficult time, another parent will offer you sympathy, because they may have been through it before, and if they haven't, they will be thanking their lucky stars that they avoided whatever it is that you're going through.

Plus - and I'm afraid this is a lesson you won't yet have learned - that person at whom you're poking fun could well be having real difficulties, and is not "just really fat, lazy, and smelly and waiting for the bus like a fat, lazy, smelly person".

Congratulations Giles and Mrs Giles :)
They look beautiful and healthy even though they are small.
It must be awful carrying and giving birth to two babies at the same time! Awesome job your wife has done, she deserves a medal 👍

Many congratulations to you both.
Enjoy it while they're still young. Next thing you know they'll be all grown up and leaving home.

Sheesh, I'm not making fun of any serious diseases or anything, just a baby who is like an inch shorter than my imaginary son. Forget it all.

What I wrote had zero intention of being cruel, as with 150% of my previous 10000 posts.
