So last Thursday I had to drive down to San Diego State University to drop my sis off for college. So I pulled up to my Aunt and Uncles house in Carlsbad. And I immediately notice the open garage door and the new black ML 500 4Matic in the garage. Damn. So I get into a discussion about it with my uncle (Who is a big car guy and proceeds to inform me that they bought their house from the owner of DC shoes, and that up the road is the lead guitarist from the Killers, and that their is a Quattroporte somewhere in his neighborhood, along with a DB9) and it turns out the Merc belongs to my aunt (She and my uncle are both pharmacutical reps) and she won it free for a year from her company for some sales deal. And they didnt skimp. They gave her one straight optioned out. V8, AWD, NAV system, everything. So after we get my sis all moved in and stuff, my dad, uncle, and I decide to go check out the local Mini Cooper dealer.

Brecht Mini was a very sweet operation. They had a Monte Carlo edition mini and a John Cooper works packaged convertible. After about 30 minutes of exploring (and sitting in and shifting and stuff with the coopers) we headed up to Brecht BMW.

They had 4 M5's, about 4 M6's (Coupe+Conv) and a black ALPINA B7. Pics will be uploaded soon. They had some M coupes and some other suprises (pics). After that, we walked down to the Penske Audi dealer down the street.

As soon as I walked on the lot, I knew this place was great. They had a brand new RS4 right next to a S6 right next to a S4 Cab. Inside the dealer was a S8! That is an incredible car, and the guy popped the hood for us. That V10 is awesome! I talked to him about the R8 and the rumors of diesel. He said (very quietly) that the Diesel R8 was coming to the US next year. Woo Hoo.

5 Minutes up the road was the Mercedes dealer where my aunt got her ML. I talked to the sales reps there about the brand new C300's (Sport and Lux) that they had on site. They said they have had em for 3 weeks. Inside, center stage, was a S65 AMG. Black with tan interior. Incredible car. Outside was a used 2007 MX5. It had the 6 speed and everything so of course I had to sit and try it out. Now, Im 5'11 182 lbs and I fit very nice in the car. Not too tight or too big. The 6 speed was very fast and precise just sittin there clutched in.

On the way home, we pull to a 4 lane road thats darn near deserted. My uncle tells me to get out and hop in the drivers seat of the ML. Now, Ive driven a X5, 525i, 740Li, 745iL, GX470 and Escalades and Vettes, but this was my first Merc. And I was impressed. My uncle told me to get on it, and that thing will get up and fly in paddle shift mode. I backed off around 60 and the thing was just so smooth with excellent road holding.

And here ends my automotive escapades in Socal. Pics will be posted soon. Promise.

Oooh, you guys are just way too cool to be part of the United States. The rest of us can just never hope to live up to the standard.

Mercs of all kinds are quite common down here, actually. Everything from a C-class all the way up to the SLs (there are actually quite a lot of SL500s around here). You'd be hard pressed to NOT SEE some kind of Merc at any given point during the day down here. The same can be said of any Luxury brand, really.
On sunny weekends, when the toys come out, it's almost normal to see any kind of high end sports car near the beach or around LA.
