Social Networking Sites: Pownce (Invites?)

I know a lot of us are a bit fed-up with the general shenanigans that happen on Facebook and MySpace these days, so I've been out looking for a new social networking tool. Some of you may know that I'm a pretty hardcore fan of Kevin Rose and the things he does, particularly all things Digg, but he did debut a new social networking service a few months ago called Pownce.

So what makes Pownce special?

Well, its kinda like a cross between AIM and the way that Facebook used to be. Its a very limited group of folks so far, only those with invites can join. You can get a little application on your computer, and kinda like AIM, you can see who is on and who is not, and send each other stuff in the process.

What kind of stuff?

Notes about life, something you found on the internet, documents and other files, and most other stuff that you'd normally send around anyway.

So, beyond that, anyone else have good social networking site recommendations that may not be 'hip' at the moment but could be later?

Hmm, I recently deleted my Facebook account and didn't really have any plans on joining another social networking site, but this looks interesting. Does anyone still have invites left?
 
I've still got three left if people want them...
