I've been looking into a buying a new car. I've already got a pretty lifted '97 Chevy, and it's some good fun and all, but it's a huge gas hog, and not very fast. So I've been casually checking the area for some good buys and about a week ago something caught my eye. An '05 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP. Really awesome car. Got a V8 with about 90,000 miles and some exhaust work so it sounds real nice. It's got an automatic transmission, but you can switch it over to a semi-automatic type deal with paddle shifters. Even comes with a radar detector. :sly:

I have a few pictures but photobucket signs me out everytime i click upload. :ouch:

I've driven it, everything seems fine. He's asking $10,500. But the thing is, I know nothing about the car. Is that too cheap? Too expensive? Does it have a history of breaking alot or is it reliable? He says he's been trying to sell it for awhile, which kind of throws me off. Any advice you guys you could give me would be great. That's alot of money to be spending on something I don't know much about. Thanks guys!

Pontiacs aren't known for reliability. And that price seem a couple thousand too high. I would really stay away from anything American from those years. Even the Sky seems cheap and it's rather temperamental. But this is coming from a guy that's been around Toyotas his whole life and has had 0 breakdowns until the Sky came.

Don't know much about the GXP's, but the 5.3 V8 is a good reliable engine. I don't think the GXP's have alot of aftermarket stuff available, so if your looking to mod a GTP (supercharged 3.8 V6) would be a better option. Those have a decent aftermarket.

With any Grand Prix, the weak spot is the trans. That is, once the power levels start to get alot higher than stock.
