If you have the latest edition of Car And Driver (Fe. 2005), then you already know about these beautys. If not, then I'll sum it up in the best way possible, and most likely, give you my opinion of it. Hopefully someone, will be able to find pics for me, since sometimes, the Mags' sites don't always give pics.
Anyways, here's whats new.
1st off.
The new Land Rover Stormer. Remember that big orange Storm concept you saw? Well, this new one isn't exactly as "futuristic" as that one since its been towned down. However, it looks fantastic. Compare pics from this one to the Range Stormer concept, and you'll see the difference. Not exactly as mean, nor does it look that much different from other Land Rover models, its still ok. Known as the Range Rover Sport, this is why it looks no different from the Range Rover except being sportier. So, I guess its not called the Stormer, but that's ok.
IMO, I would have loved to see it as a new model, but guess not.
Although, on the same platform, it will actually turn out a bit smaller than the new LR3. L.R. claims it the 'best driver' yet. Good news is the concepts V8 made it into this one producing 390 horsepower from a 4.2 liter engine from Jaguar. A less expensive version will come out producing 300 horsepower motivated by the LR3's 4.4 liter V8. The engine replaces BMW's 282 h-p 4.4 liter V8. Of course, this now the fastest Land Rover made yet. This new Rover can weigh in about 5000 pounds, so don't be expecting to out accelerate the Cayenne. As for those nice scissor doors...they were dropped.
The new Sport should occupy the same place between the LR3 and Range Rover which is between $55,000 and $65,000
Heading over to Volkswagen now.
The new 2006 Jetta (known as the Bora in Europe) in its 5th generation has grown in size to the previous models. It is now 7.0 inches longer and an inch wider and provides 2.6 more inches of legroom for the rear seats. Simce the Jetta is based on the Golf, it will benefit from the Golf's latest more rigid platform. There is now a new 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder engine. The new 5 produces 150 h-p and is yet, another variant of the 115-hp 2.0 liter four whose lineage can be traced all the way back to the first model. A GLI model will follow sharing the CTI's 197-hp 2.0 liter direct-injection four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The 6-speed automatic will be optional to the standard 5-speed manual. However, diesel models along with GLI ones will get the twin-cluth 6-speed Direct Shift Gearbox from the R32. There is no word on price yet.
Some short news from Saturn.
The new Sky model is expected soon. This 2-seater model is going to be the 1st of many new models to come carrying the new design ethos of Saturn which is to say, "Taut, controlled lines combine with harmonious and fluid surfacing to create a technical and dynamic feel," according to Ed Welburn, vice-president of GM design. It should show itself in showrooms next year.
Audi time!
Following our new Audi A6, is the new A6 Avant. For some people who don't know, Avant means wagon. Visually similar to the sedan, it starts to differ from the C-pillar rearword. Built to compete against BMW's 5-series wagon and Mercedes' E-Class wagonl. Its taillight design will be shared with the upcoming Audi Q7 SUV, based on VW's Touareg. Thi9s wagon will have a direct-injection 3.1-liter V-6 and the 4.2-liter V8 from the sedan. You Europeans will get this one March, while us Americans will recieve this A6 in the fall.
Subaru: The son of the Legacy.
Subaru introduces the new B9X, AKA, Son of the Legacy. This 7-seater SUV will be released to the world later this year. If you remember the B11S concept shown at the Geneva Auto Show in 2003, the face of that Subaru is carried on this one. The B9X is based on an enlarged version of the Legacy platform, hence, the Son of the Legacy name., but with a re-designed rear suspension. AWD will be standard for us US buyers. Power is expected to come from a 250-hp version of the 3.0-liter flat-six.
Ok, now its time for 1 special Italian.
Pagani is releasing the Zonda for US owners in 2007 and hopes to triple its output of cars within 3 years. Coming along with new coupes is that old Roadster. In the 5 years since the opening in Modena, Italy, the company has only produced just 47 cars! In November 2004, they sold 5 Zonda S 7.3 coupes! These 5 cars were bought at $525,000 a supercar and in the same month, 9 Roadster versions sitting prices at $615,000 a roadster! We all know, the power for these cars comes from a Mercedes 7.3-liter (hence 7.3 in the name) V-12 producing 547-hp built by Mercedes high performance opeartion, AMG. AMG will be building Pagani engines until 2013 when the deal stops. Pagani will be showing off a Zonda C8, which in March, will appear at Geneva. It will be lighter and more aerodynamic. and will feature a BenzV12 producing 630-hp! After the C8s, Pagani will start on the C9. The C9 will from the next gen. AMG V-12. The C9 will be longer in wheelbase and overall length, and unfornately, it will also grow in width over te current staggering 81 inches.. Sketches show a more sleeker and cleaner Zonda. The trademark 4 tail pipe will stay. The C9 will make it hard for Pagani to meet US regulations, so are chances of seeing it could be limited. Pagani said 15-18 percent of investments will go to making the C9 meet out regulations. To recoup these huge costs, Pagani will amazingly, have to sell at least 25 cars in the US and boost worldwide production to 60 cars per year!
Chrysler Viper?
The new Firepower from Chrysler can easily be seen as Chrysler's relative to the Dodge Viper. To some, its a snake wearing a tuxedo. The vehicle type is a front-engine, rear-wheel drive. 2-passenger, 3-door coupe.
Price will be a lot lower for those who want a Viper like car at much lower costs. Price; $50,000. There will be a 425-hp@ 6200 RPM. The transmission sits at a 5-speed automatic with manumatic shifting. Your 0-60 sits a nice 4.5 seconds and the quarter mile stands at 12.8 sec @ 112 MPH. In other words, this perfect for people who want a Viper at lower costs. Sure, you're not getting the full snake bite, but it beats a Crossfire.
And now, the new Viper!
Its the return of the Tintop Serpent. Keeping its SRT-10 name, this is the the coupe. Like the previous Viper before, the Coupe descendant from it convertible brother. Although I would like a name like a GTS-10 or something, its alright. The 1st model is shown in the world famous, blue w/ white stripes much like the GTS. The SRT-10 was shown red like the RT-10. This new monster to the Snake house will be $86,000. Power? Try 500 horses @ 5600 RPM! The transmission stays the same automatic lovers. A 6-speed Manual. Torque sits at 525 lb-ft @ 4200 RPM.
0-60 is 3.9 sec with 0-100 at 8.5 sec. The quarter mile for this Snake is 12.1 sec @ 121 Mph. Unfornatelt for Dodge, the new Z06 equals in power, and does better in times. Although, I doubt this will stop Viper lovers from buying an exotic American car.
And now. The C6 Z06!
We all knew about this one. The way to tell this is the Z06 is is the air vent placed right below the hood. Of course, the Vette doesn't come cheap. Since the C6 is known as the cheapest Vetter ever, this isn't. At $62,500, and power to match the new Viper, this beast from Chevy, makes 500-hp as well @ 6200 RPM. It too features a 6-speed manual. This Vetter is better now than the Viper.
0-60=3.8 sec and 0-100 equaling 7.7 secs. The quarter mile can be done in 11.7 sec @ 127 MPH.
Info from here and above was reported by Car and Driver (Not me)
The Civil War between America's 3 big companies. (Bonus)
Although, the new Z06 smacks the new Coupe, it wasn't really until the Viper that America started to keep up with Europe. Let's face it. The Viper came out of nowhere, and when it did, Chevrolet saw the rival to their baby of the family. For countless years (ok, more like a decade), the Viper and the Vette competed. Ford surpassed them with the Ford GT, but who cares. All Ford has ever cared about is being on the top of the American market. They say they have the #1 selling Sports car AKA Mustang. No **** Ford! Your sports car is extremely much cheaper than the Viper or Vette. Of course, Dodge's owner, Chrysler, has a beast in the factory ready to put Ford back in its place. Although a Dodge emblem won't be on it, it will still come from the same family. The ME 412. (With 4 turbos and 12 cylinders) Let's hope Chevy has something up their sleaves.
That's it for now. Keep in touch though. I have special Zonda news coming soon. Hopefully before tonigh is over. And also, news on a Monster car from Germany's own Ruf. Stay tuned. 👍
